You're living the dream anon. Always wanted a motorcycle, but I didn't even get a chance to ride a bike as a kid so I'd probably end up as a grease smear. Might end up doing it anyways.

>> No.17158965

>>17158930
You definitely need to learn to ride a bike before hopping on a moto. But the good news is that once you get the bike down you're about 75% of the way. At the safety course I took they didn't even bother teaching how to turn in depth, because the motion is second-nature if you've operated a bike at speed.

That last 25% can still kill you dead, so be careful. But go for it.

>> No.17159435

>>17158930
Bikes and motorbikes are dead simple to operate once you realize you just need forward momention and not fuss with the handlebars too much. How you pivot in a real tight circle is you just look to the side you want to go, and lean into it pretty much. The speed will keep you up, and your eyes direct your hands. That's why it's bad to stare at trees you're trying to pass. You go where you look and focus.

A good bike-course will have you doing emergency breaks at full motorway speeds, and tight figure-eights before you're allowed to ride freely. I've broken my thumbs from emergency stops so I do recommend practicing to stop making mistakes and fussing.

Bikes are easy and fun, just focus and never ride when pissed and upset.

Just spent two hours going down this rabbit hole of how to capture directly to card without tape. I think the easiest/cheapest is this thing called the immersion powerplay, which is meant for drones apparently but can be easily rigged for camcorders. I'm not sure if you can change what fps it records in though I'm still kind of ignorant on exactly how it functions. It seems most people use this for recording skate videos

I've seen some rickety diy projects done for less than 100 but honestly I don't think the tapeless set up has ever been cheap. One of the best devices for tapeless recording seems to be the (discontinued) sony hvrmrc1 which is around 400 on ebay at the moment. There is also the more modern Atmos recorders which start at around 500-600 but I think can still be retrofitted to most camcorders. Honestly the powerplay thingy is pretty cheap by comparison if you're set on using a minidv camera. Lots of skateboarders have videos on how they set it up I'm sure they've figured out the current cheapest way. The silver lining of everything is that you could buy a camcorder with broken tapeheads since you're not using tape and presumably buy it for a better deal.

>> No.17168270

>>17168259
Yeah that's what I'm finding. I see this HMDVR thing online which is really small, and costs $20. The downside is that it seems to only record in 3 minute segments.

I guess if you knew what you were doing you'd be able to use a microcontroller to convert the video signal and write it to a card as a video file. But that would probably be pretty hard to do.

I have a license. Most of the pictured fits literally as-is would be pretty lethal, but it's not really that hard to slip on an armored mesh jacket under or sew pockets to the inside of pants to protect against impact, which is what really fucks you up (as in kills or maims for life). And a lot of entry-level moto gear is relying on polyester for abrasion resistance, which puts it more or less on par with some of the stuff here.

Even the stuff that straight up is unsafe is good inspo and you can find some neat-looking gear with it as a guide. I found a big 500-denier cordura drover's coat that I use as rain riding gear after getting inspo'd here.

It would be for field recordings and electronic music, so maybe something with a silent electric bike, compact clothing that make as little noise as possible, headphones (not necessarily worn at the neck, could just be kept in the backpack), and different types of microphones to attach to the recorder (some dual handheld shotgun mic setup could look cool).

don't think all of that matters when you're forced to record when standing still anyway. if you drove while recording, the wind noise would render any recording useless

t. sound designer

>> No.17186059

>>17185843
This is all for larping and "the feel" anyway, but if you have a silent bike and don't go too fast, you're not going to generate any wind that a good windscreen (like the big hairy ones) can't shield you from.
Audio gets recorded in windy conditions all the time (YouTube has tons of POV riding videos with decent audio) and there are ways to mitigate it.
Besides, an ICE bike has to be fully off when you're recording, whereas with a silent bike can just stop for a second, record without even dismounting, then go. It's just so much more practical compared to a regular bike.
Even the hum they have is so much easier to remove/reduce in post with RX than engine rumble.

Another audio-related activities could be temporary pirate radios.
Going to secluded appropriate places to broadcast for a short time then packing up and leaving without a trace.

But I remain partial to the dual-wielding of shotgun mics held like sticks/batons. I think it looks cool and it calls back to one of the most iconic works of sound design ever:
