Chopard makes, or made, a lot of crap. they have some high end stuff, yes, but the average watch is still not great and no, it is not at the level of Piaget.

Bulgari is a better comparison because while they do have some very high end stuff, most of what they sell is the Diagono and other garbage. Chopard is probably better on average than bulgari.

Piaget, Chopard and Bulgari are literally on the same segment (jewellers that also make watches with in-house movements). Same pricepoint, same Nautilus/Royal Oak cope watches, same marketing, same customer base.
It's actually hilarious how similar they are. Bulgari and Piaget compete to make the thinnest watches. Bulgari and and Chopard compete to make the best micro-rotor movement. Chopard and Piaget compete to make the most obvious Nautilus cope.

They should merge into a unique brand and give everybody a break with their bullshit

Hey guys. My beloved mom decided to gift me a watch for finishing my master's. I tried to refuse but she insists. I never wore a watch because I am terrified of losing it since I have ADHD.
I usually dress simply, mainly in black, occasionally dark red/green. I'm 24 but look a bit younger than my age. I don't wear anything too fancy, the most fancy thing you'll see on me is a brandless polo shirt and maybe a suit occasionally. It will most likely be my only watch for a while.
I really like some Citizen designs, such as CB5000-50L, CB5001-57E and AT9030-55L.

> Your budget
15,000CZK (€612, $617)
- I would prefer cheaper options to not take too much money from mom

> Watch type, e.g. dress, diver, pilot
No preference

> Movement, e.g. automatic, hand wound, quartz
No preference

> Desired features, e.g. water resistance, day/date, 2nd time zone
Water resistance would be great, also a digital screen in addition to regular dial

> Preferred strap option, e.g. leather, nylon, bracelet
No preference, but something durable ideally

> Wrist size or desired watch size
I'm 6'3, big dude, however my wrists are pretty regular. No idea what else to add

Also a side note: Are G-Shocks a meme? They seem really out there for regular wearing.

Casio Lineaga has this, although for the budget you have i would rather suggest you an Oceanus. Picrel is my Lineage, it's an older model but they can still be found, i'd urge you to check the titanium models (LCW M170-TD). Oceanus has more water resistance i think (50m on Lineage is still ok) but doesn't have the digital display.

I'm basically making watches just like they used to in the 60s and 70s.
>lacquered dials
>painted steel bezels
>tritium indices (inb4 "it's forbidden now" : I'm Rolex, who's gonna stop me?)
Only things from modern Rolex I'm keeping are the bracelets (solid end links, clasps...) and the new movements with 70h PR.

Also I'm discontinuing the Milgauss and the Yacht Master 1 and 2.
Professional watches can only be steel or two tones (no full gold bullshit, no diamonds).
The Sky Dweller is TOLERATED only if the engineers can make it 40mm wide and 12mm thick.
Oysterflex is now banned.
Datejust 41 and OP 41 are also banned.
Cases over 40mm are strictly forbidden (even the Sea Dweller). Watches have to be small, compact and sturdy.

i'm guessing at first glance most would see a rather reserved piece, but the owner is going to have the fun of all those details making it quite the nice little curiousity

i like the tritium tubes on the hands, adore the indices, and judging solely by minimising the picture on my screen i think the shape of the seconds hand makes it pretty legible and therefore of actual use

>what are production contraints?
Rolex is able to produce a shit ton of 36mm watches. All of them (DJ, OP and Explorer) share the same case, indices, movement (the 3235 is just a 3230 with a datewheel). They are therefore easier to pass through quality control. And yet, despite the fact Rolex is shitting out thousands of these every day, there are waiting lists for these watches.
The GMT Master II and Daytona are more complex watches and take more time to produce. The movement in the GMT Master II can be found in the Explorer II and that's it. The movement in the Daytona is made specifically for the Daytona. These watches have parts that exist on no other models (bezel, indices, hands, pushers, etc).

I dont have the numbers but I wouldnt be surprised if Rolex made 10 Explorer for 1 Daytona.

As a 39mm watch it was unpopular. It sold only because it was a Rolex and all Rolexes sell.
As a 36mm watch it re-engages the "purists" and wristlets. It's still unpopular, but not nearly as unpopular. Plus, it provides good PR for Rolex for listening to their customers and "see, the waiting list isn't so bad" when someone gets theirs in three weeks instead of 10 years.

people seem to be complaining they can hardly see the numbers on display, especially when they get to double-figures

from what i can tell on other sites than the official Breda, the watch is about 6mm thick, that slimness housing a Miyota quartz of some sort, but i can't be bothered hunting down exactly which movement so i've no idea whether it's decent

as an aside, the main reason i don't want to do any more research is because the breda marketing was so sickening with pseudo-intellectual garbage about the 3 styles representing transition from beginnings to becomings and if i read any more of that garbage i'd start punching holes in the wall

I don't think Rolex is happy that Swatch and Richemont are taking advantage of the current shortage situation. A few years ago you could walk into an AD and buy a Submariner, now you have to waits months. I totally get why some people turn to Omega or JLC.

Anon, think for a second.
Let's say Rolex can produce 1000 watches a year. Let's also say there are 1500 buyers. Each watches is worth $1k.
>1000 buyers get their Rolex (Rolex has made $1M)
>Rolex promises the 500 remaining they'll get their Rolex within a year
>250 accept to wait, 250 decide to go to Omega
>that's 250 watches Rolex won't sell ($250k in Omega's pockets)
>after a year, Rolex has made 1000 new watches, but because their watches are very good they now have 2000 potential buyers
>the 250 buyers of last year get their watch, as well as 750 new buyers ($1M in total)
>1250 buyers couldnt purchase a Rolex
>50% of them will wait, 50% will go to Omega
>the year after, 2500 buyers show up, and so on...
Each year, more and more potential buyers are told to wait. Half of them will shop elsewhere, feeding Rolex' competitors.
Rolex WANTS to increase its production to stop its competitors from growing and protect its market share. They even had to launch new models in their secondary line to keep a % of their customer base.

I don't get why people believe Rolex is happy with the current situation. It's literally free money for their competitors right now.

>> No.17132994

>>17132988
Rolex honestly doesn't care if someone gets disgruntled and buys a Seamaster instead of a Submariner, because that buyer will buy a Sub anyway given half a chance.
Rolex's moneymaker is the Datejust, which is itself nearly half theor production, and there's no substutite for that.

What Rolex is going to do is increase production and prices gradually until the second-hand/gray market prices for the non-hype pieces stabilizes slightly below MSRP, then it will begin capping production again.

>> No.17132997

This is true. For anyone curious, there have been lots of interviews with past and present Rolex ADs who have talked about the official stance on the scarcity. It's all interlinked. For example, people hate the waiting list games and the fact that ADs weren't selling to first time buyers. Well, that's because Rolex corporate had a hard-line stance against flippers and has been terminating ADs left and right the last few years, and accidentally (or intentionally) moving watches to a flipper would be a great excuse for Rolex to terminate your agreement.

However, the problem is that no ADs are getting enough watches. You no longer get enough Rolexes to keep your doors open, so you are bundling high margin items with them to move people up the "waiting list." Rolex spoke with their ADs and told them to worry less about selling to flippers and that they wanted 40% of watches to go to first time customers. Will this make a difference? I don't know, maybe.

Rolex have dozens of competitors.
Literally every watch brand that will benefit from Rolex not being able to deliver a watch in time to a potential buyer is a competitor.
Rolex also has to deal with engineers leaving its workforce because competitors now have the means to pay them good money.

Yeah. It has really negatively affected the way many people see ADs, and justifiably so. Compare the Rolex and Patek (who frankly is even worse, but it is more understandable) boutique experiences to brands like AP (who still has their unobtainable models), VC, Lange, or JLC. I'd wager upwards of 70% of the customers in all these places go in just to gawk, but you're offered champagne or Scotch or anything you want and salespeople will often let you try on watches worth an alarming amount of money, even if it's obvious you can't afford them or won't be buying anything. They realize that there is inherent value in showing off the crown jewels of the brand and letting people who may be potential customers down the line experience the best they can offer and see the magic in person.

The last time I was in a JLC boutique I told the salesperson I was just killing time waiting for my girlfriend. In about 20 minutes he had explained how a Duometre worked in painstaking detail and insisted I try on a perpetual calendar tourbillon they had sitting around. That level of customer service makes a big difference. Compare that to Patek where you're told you need to buy $40k in dead stock to get a women's Patek to get a chance at whatever watch they happen to get sent. Ridiculous.

Does it actually have a GMT's 48-position rotating bezel or is it just a dive watch bezel with a different insert?

>> No.17133701

>>17133691
Pretty sure it's a friction bezel/no clicks. But if you're not gonna Google it to confirm, neither will I.

The bezel is pretty shit to operate, it goes bi directional and has zero positioning. it can still do the job but it’s definitely the worst part about the watch.

Jesus. That's pretty bad. I mean, the first GMT Masters didn't have bezel detents either so it's not the end of the world, but you'd think Seiko would at least know enough to copy the successful features.

FYI, though, GMT bezels are supposed to be bidirectional, depending on whether you're flying east to west or west to east.

Dive bezels should be unidirectional so that you don't accidentally spend too little time at a decompression stop while ascending.

What rule is it supposed to be violating?

It's not a raid, it's not advertising. Certainly not as bad as the ones who drive viewers to JOMW or Teddy's videos. Those don't get banned.

The faggot spamming the JOMW videos in every watch thread is a janny. He deleted my posts multiple times and got me banned twice just today.
He's seething because he knows he's violating the rules by advertising this youtube channel and I'm not.

You're welcome. They might be larger than 38mm, but keep in mind that they wear smaller and fit small wrists quite well, because the strap tapers down very quickly.
