NATTY ROO EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

Did I get the wrong size shoe? Went to redwings today and bought a size 11 boot. Guy sized me as 12W and said I should go as an 11 because it should be snug and will be uncomfortable for a while, but it would be worn in to a better fit.
It's been comfortable for the past 8 hours. Think it's worth going back for a 10.5 or are people just babies about the whole blisters and feet hurting thing?

Anon, how often do you clean and condition your boots?
I’ve had mine since November last year and haven’t done anything to them. Granted I only wear them during the weekends (work insists black footwear) and now summer has began I wear them maybe once a week on a Sunday. I doubt I’ll wear them during the height of summer and then it’ll have been nearly a year. The leather seems not too dry - should I clean and condition them?

>> No.17097073

>>17097069
Condition them twice a year, especially when you buy them because you don't know how long they've been in storage.
Polishing cream covers any scratches and stuff because it has pigment in it.
Wax for that nice shine and decent protection. Don't overdo it with the wax in flexible areas cause it will crack

I am a big fan of the Tru Balance last since it fits me really well (tall instep + wide feet). Because of this Aldens are the most comfortable boots I own so they are worth it to me even after the price increases. Yeah, after 5% of the climbing time the Hoffmans went through with no problems the Wescos started to wear. A lot of other makers have fairly narrow lasts so there is some truth to it. I’m an 11.5E on a brannock and my first pair of Indy’s was 11.5E and they fit like a glove with lightweight wool socks. Depending on the leather option I prefer to buy Tru Balance Aldens in 12D since width is approximately the same as a 1/2 down in E and D widths are more available. I’m also a 12D on the Barry last.

Hey Everyone,

Andrew here and I hope you’ve been well. I wanted to take a moment to give everyone an update on things as we move into the Summer.

For the past few months, I have been posting production updates on my website. Thank you for following along and reading when you had the chance to. Without re-iterating too much of what’s already up on the website, I want to let you know my suppliers, factories, and I are all working to get production back to where it needs to be.

I have listened to your requests and feedback surrounding events related to Covid-19, supply chain and manufacturing difficulties here in the USA. I have been and continue to take measures to ensure there is not only an adequate offering of boots going into Fall, but also an upgrade in quality, build and new styles offered. Further, I will be bringing back some popular leathers and styles you have requested over the past 18 months, all on the 602 last. With the way production is going currently on these items, I anticipate being able to offer them in October.

With regards to more current timing, I am aiming to introduce some new styles in early August. Leading up to this, I will send out an email and post on social platforms when the new batch will be ready to ship to you soon.

Thank you so much for your support and for following along on this journey as we enter a new phase coming soon. If you ever need anything or have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thanks again and have a great week

I fell like I'm taking crazy pills here. The materials are less important than the labor/time cost. These rubber unit sole take much less time to make. Significantly less
Whites do have unit sole boots, but guess what? They are priced CHEAPER than their regular leather boots. Under $400.
Danners got 360 stichdown construction, full grain upper, synthetic bottom, and they're all around $400

I acctually prefer Nicks' machine stitch than Whites and I think they look better, but they've been doing nothing but taking Ls the last few releases.

if what they say is true then the materials cost is really small in the overall price if the boot becusebthere should be a little less labor. they're not having to nail down the midsole or outsole, not having to cut heel blocks, not having to nail heel blocks etc.
if it was even 465 I'd give them the benefit of the doubt but this is definitely meant to be a thing margin earner like the whites chore boot

Yeah, their midsole filling literally turns to dust and escapes through the gaps in the midsole. I’d rather use rubber or leather with fabric in between layers to prevent squeaking. Cork is literally cheap trash, your shoes shouldn’t have any gaps if it was properly measured and made to fit you.

A reminder that if you get leather soles for your shoes (why on boots?) then you must also add metal toe taps, otherwise the toes will wear out very fast and look sloppy like pic related.

Better to just stick to rubber soles for boots and thin rubber soles for your dressier shoes as well, save the leather soles maybe for your single pair of super formal black cap toe oxfords. Even then no one really cares if you go rubber.

tl;dwr: welted shoes can run small

moat people oversize thier sneakers for some reason but leather welted shoes need to fit properly because theres no sponge to smooth out the fit. you likely need to go .5 down from your sneaker size to get a proper fit. this is true for most welted shoes. I'd recommend reading thier last/fit guide for guidance becyse when you start playing with widths that also adjusts the size you need. eg.you can wear an 11d or a 10.5e somewhat interchangeably
