Its a very pleasant airy woody scent and like i said most people will be able to smell it on you even if you cant. It kind of gets memed as an aphrodisiac scent which is a bit silly but people do like the smell and it tends to complement most peoples natural skin scent.

I believe it. My EdT is 78% vol., looking at the Parfum version ("PURE PERFUME") shows 79%. Like sure there's water and some chemicals in these that are not considered part of the "perfume", so it could still be that the Parfum version has less water or whatever and therefore more perfume, but it's still odd. It's at most 21%, which is not really PURE PERFUME territory, plus it still has water and chemicals, so it's more likely around 15%.

Given that EdTs not rarely perform better, I can believe that anything else often just means "1-2% water replaced with vanilla, enjoy paying 30% more! - and don't forget to leave your rating online that makes this version out to be slightly better than the EdT like a good consumer".

>> No.17082386

I just started my fragrance journey recently, and have been discovering what I do and do not like. A friend of mine has quite a few fragrances so Ive been using his collection as a learning tool. From what I can tell it seems like my preferred smell profiles are more on the introverted or 'gloomier' side, so to speak, with stuff like le labo baie19 or encre noir, black afgano, and stuff like that. I guess I like woody or wet stony nature smelling stuff and smokey or whatever, but my friend tells me these odours are a bit more attuned for the winter, so they could be overpowering in summer. I guess this is really long winded but my question would be if there are these kinds of odours I might jive well with that would be more attuned to summer.

bad analogy. A better one would be a sandwitch by michelin star cook vs sea urchin sevice made by a guy that just learns how to cook. I don't think /fa/ prefers indie, I think they prefer vintage fragrances. Designer are hit or miss - made to smell good and likeable but at the risk odd smelling pedestrian. The premise of indie is to smell interesting and to differentiate yourself from the crowd, the cost however, is that you may end up smelling like you pissed and shat yourself. For me indie is for the most part overrated.

why does any community of x topic like more challenging and in-depth items? if you are into culinary stuff, you probably like making your plates and cooking stuff with crazy techniques. or if you like watching movies, you probably don't appreciate fast and furious movies after a few years but find more challenge in some other movies. I think that's the case with fragrances, too; the more you smell, the more challenging fragrances you prefer.

I do agree that getting into Bortnikoff and other very high-end names has to be differentiated, though, but the difference between designer and niche is mostly in the quality of the fragrances

waiting on a bottle of this on top of Machrie
I smelled this once on a paper strip and I remember it smelling almost like straight up frankincense, not very churchy, with just a tiny bit of smoke and a tiny bit of myrrh, though I read through a few reviews and most of them say it's more spicy than incensy, so I'm not really sure what to expect at this point

No, not a good first date frag. It's a good cool weather frag if you like sour vetiver but if you're unfamiliar with it then don't get it for a first date.
Get Prada Luna Rossa Black or Armani Stronger With You Absolutely instead. And always test a frag out before you buy if you can.

For the people saying that encre noire isnt a good first date and/or date scent, can you elaborate on why? What do you seek on a date scent and what does encre noire lack to make it one. It smells nice and woodsy and a bit mysterious and whatnot. It might be a fine scent for dates depending on the girl but that also depends on her tastes. And if you don't know for certain what she likes or dislikes then wearing something as polarizing as Encre Noire on your first date may not work out the way you want to. Maybe get to know her a little better before you bring out a heavy scent like EN and use something with a little more mass appeal on your first date.

TdH and H24 are opposite sides of the same coin. In the same way as there are similarities in the more classical woody scent of BI and the futuristic metallic Ganymede, the same applies to TdH being the woody classical fragrance and H24 being it's metallic and intentionally synthetic alternative, imagining what TdH would be if the present was what the future of movies in the 80s and 90s looked like

Got this as a free sample back then from essenza nobile and haven't come around testing it. People in reviews are comparing it to Oud for Greatness, which I haven't sampled btw.

The opening is instantly pleasant, the different notes are quite easy to pick out here, lavender, saffron, with an underlying oud base. Drydown is quite linear: sweet (but not overly so) and a bit spicy, not that much wood. Smells somewhat dirty, as in rather not clean-smelling, but still something I'd imagine to be very likeable for most people. Feels not synthetic at all.
You may say it's nothing groundbreaking and that's probably true, but it smells great, has decent projection while still being inoffensive, and it lasts a good 6 hours on my skin (which I feel is really rare). Price is steep of course, as with all PdMs, but this one seems to work for me at least. Could imagine wearing this on evenings, doing so everyday I'd probably get tired of it soon.

You cannot name a better top 3 frags. Unless you’re an autist, or actually gay and don’t enjoy smelling like an überfresh gigachad, this is the top 3 frags you can buy. I’ve gone down this rabbit hole to the point of researching frags for days on end. Niche, discontinued, underrated etc - all of the shit you will research will NEVER get you to the point of how many frags I’ve tested. These are the top 3, bar none and nothing else comes close. Once you get into expensive niche it changes, but for mainstream, normal chads who want to smell absolutely fresh to deff just need to buy these 3. Heed my warning, do not waste your time trying to find some niche, hipster shit that smells good you will not be able to.

Carven L'Eau Intense, for some minty-fresh greens.
Adidas Active Bodies if you want it cheap, showergel-like and fresh-green.
You could try regular Cool Water as well, to see if you can "tolerate" the amount of aquatic accord it has, and if it ain't too much you could check out Green Irish Tweed. I hate aquatics, but so far Cool Water and GIT make the cut, as well as Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme. The latter one just barely.

frag recs please? One warm and one cold weather. Here's my criteria
<$1.80/ml
NO WEIRD SHIT THAT WILL MESS WITH MY HORMONES (most important)

The following are ideas, I don't necessarily want a fragrance with all of them

Warm weather:
>Top notes of pine, sage, orange, grapefruit
>middle notes of pepper, haitian vetiver oil, cloves
>base notes of oakmoss, cedar, woodsy notes
>accords of some woody, fresh spicy, some green, some aromatic
I don't really know what I want when it comes to warm weather fragrances, but I want a woodsy outdoorish smell.

Cold weather:
>top notes of rum, nutmeg,
>middle notes of candle smell, spices, haitian vetiver oil
>base notes of sandalwood, leather, amber
>accords of woody, spicy, with the smell of candle smoke

Thanks!!

I just picked this up due to the FromPyrgos recommendation, it's apparently a Santal 33 clone. Never sampled Santal 33 but it smells really familiar. Pretty nice woods but it's kind of an overplayed smell, every hipster in the last 10 years smelled like this. I much prefer Bois Imperial if I'm going to wear something extremely woody. For the $20 it's excellent though, fuck paying 10x for Santal 33. Also got Dunhill Fresh on the way, apparently that one is like Fahrenheit meets Aqua Velva.

I sampled a lot of them cuz I was memed by the advertising and then I learned my lesson cuz they’re all low quality and not natural smelling. Falling into the sea is the best one I tried and it smells pretty similar to encre noir sport so token not needed

any of the montblanc ones they have in that price range.
they're all very safe buys. you're not going to wow or offend anyone. if you dont like it, then you're left with a nice gift for someone.

Frag noob here,I want to get both hot weather and a cold weather frag.
I was thinking about getting D&G Light Blue(my mom recommended me this one) as a daytime frag and Versace Eros (Flame) for colder weather/clubbing/going on a date.
Should I just pull the trigger and get these?
Or do you happen to have any recommendations?

Bois Imperial is literally amazing, wish I would have bought it two years ago when the shilling started. We're still early adopters but it's going to blow up soon. People ask me what it is every time I wear it

Are there any niche brands with truly interesting, evocative and unusual scents? I don't mean interesting as in "damn that's disgusting and one-dimensional so I guess it qualifies as original" but in the actually wearable sense.

I'd recommend that you take your time and test out some frags that interest you before pulling the trigger on anything.
Better to be patient and buy something you really love than buy something you regret because someone else recommended it.
Get a sense of your own style first and then you'll have a good starting point to ask for similar recommendations.

They are unironically all obsolete since Bois Imperial. If you want a retro vibe then just actually dive into obscure 80s frags or at least Cool Water, the 2000s Iso E Super woods has been reimagined and you need to get with the times

For the price tag, Fierce is the best. Percival is probably slightly better overall but you're paying for the branding and name more than quality and it isn't worth it. Legend is very similar to Fierce but the performance isn't as good.
So if price doesn't matter to you, get Percival. Otherwise get Fierce. And if the Fierce homo bottle is too off putting, then get Legend.

Alright, thanks.
Do you have an opinion on Kilian VOTR which is usually cited as another alternative take on Fierce or is it not even worth looking into

>> No.17085557

how good is a&f's longevity compared to percival?

>> No.17085558

>>17085543
This is going to be a frustrating answer but really it depends on your tastes. Overall Kilian is really good but VOTR is different enough from the others that you asked about that you should test it before considering it. It's not near enough to Fierce or Percival to compare it honestly.
But if I was spending big money on a frag I'd rather do it on a Kilian than PdM any day.

>> No.17085564

>>17085558
Well I'm inquiring about frags that can be more or less considered Fierce clones rather than something actually different like VOTR so I might just sample it separately.

>> No.17085568

>>17085557
Percival is better but it's difficult to justify any PdM price tag. They are so over hyped and expensive for what you're getting. I mean, it's better than Fierce but ten times better? I don't think so

>> No.17085572

>>17085568
>ten times better?
percival is like 250 and fierce is around 100, a&f increased their pricing and allegedly diluted fierce, when was the last time you tried it

>> No.17085577

>>17085564
It's definitely worth trying but I'd never rec it as a clone of Fierce or Percival.
And at least with Fierce it's cheap enough if you aren't satisfied with it you can still get something else without breaking your budget.
