What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

But the years passed, and I had forgotten about the pain of new footwear made of real leather.

I hope it's not buyers' remorse talking but I think they'll be alright once the leather softens up

When I first put them on I thought I made a mistake and they were too small, it was hard to get my foot in because the leather was so stiff and tight and even the lace up area didn't open easily
After I worn them once that part really softened up now.

I just wish the vamp area would soften faster so it wouldn't hurt my feet when I walk and the shoe has to flex. And if the hell softens it will probably stop the small amount of heel slip.

IT DEPENDS
you can get sketchers boots that are extremely comfortable and are pretty durable but dont expect something super high quality
the cost comes from improvements in materials, construction and labor
eg:
$100 boot - bonded leather that will peel and isnt breathable, fibreboard lasting board that cracks over time, synthetic insole that crushes by midday and eventually loses its cushioning, glued on sole that eventually separates from heat and moisture exposure if it doesn't start chunking first, ugly overcomplicated design that often includes synthetic panels to try and make it breathable

$400 boot - full grain leather that ages well and is breathable, leather insole that provides cushioning and shock absorption all day, midsole that does the same, stitched and glued sole made from high quality time tested rubbers with a nailed on heel, sole is easily replaceable, clean design that only looks better as the leather ages

im not going to say you can never go cheap but you can spend $400 now or $400 over 3 years and 5 pairs. in 3 years the $400 pair is ready for 7 more years

The heel slip disappeared, my right foot is comfy, my left foot is a little tight.
The vamp still hurts my feet in the area where my toes meet the rest of the foot, every time I walk and the shoe creases as it beds it hurts. But it's a bit softer than last time I think.

properly shaped shoe trees (read lasted shoe trees) will decrease the amount of creasing formed on the shoe over its lifetime

will generic shoe trees do the same? sure but not to the same extent as lasted ones will

if creasing is what you're concerned with the tannage and the quality of the clicking will determine much more than any shoe tree

PSA. If you want the ultimate boot shining device, do yourself a favor and buy fine stockings, cut them into 1ft lengths, stretch them and use them to polish your boots. The boots will need to already have a good amount of polish embedded in them for this to work.

For me the part that always feels a little odd with oxfords (and I suppose balmoral boots would be the same) is that, if you think about it, the front half of the shoe is basically a fixed size and your foot has to fit like a glove or not at all.
Everything in front of the lacing is basically fixed in place.

I was shopping for chelseas because I need something dress-ish to wear, all my other boots are work boots (Nicks, DM), then I figured I should just got get engineer boots, cause they look the same under the pant legs anyways and I don't like elastics..
Then I figured I should go full retard and get cowboy (roper) boots instead.
Is this a good move? I'm not looking for a real dress/formal boots. Just something sleeker I can wear on a nice date.
Also engineers are about twice the price of Tecovas and I won't be wearing them often anyways.

Not memeing it just needs a layer between the floor and the rubber. This only applies to tile floor though if it happens everywhere then it’s the boot itself
