I like unique sounding scents but the CdG Nomad Tea and Sticky Cake I tried were disgustingly sweet and didn't really evolve at all. I really like D&G Light Blue but the silage is really weak. Thinking about trying a citrus/flower fragrance next.

>> No.16015187

Got the last of my Ensor Oud Crime and Punishment sample on. It’s very weighty and kind of piercing, but it’s also fun and almost playful. The citrus in the opening is dominated by the Oud in the base, as are the florals in the mid, but it’s all necessary to stop the thing being a dense, thick, unpleasant Oud. Interesting I’ve left it three or four months since I last sprayed it and I’m getting much more smokiness from it now. Maybe I just never picked up on it or maybe it’s changed, but I like it. I do wonder what the practicality of such perfumes is, it’s a lot of money to just sit at home and sniff your wrists, but who on earth would wear this to the pub?

First Sight The Gate Fragrances Paris.
It smells just like carefree summer vacations. Very pleasant and natural smelling despite quite hard notes to work with: mint, lemonade, sorbet. This could easily go wrong but instead, you got a very unique fun scent. There's an overall citric vibe around it too. It's like Eros but actually good. watery oceanic/sea smells will have a part in them that smell "generic" automatically. it's the watery part/calone. without that is not an ozonic/calone smell anymore. bvlagri aqua has the same backbone as aqua di gio line but give them a try anyway. I can't recommend Acqua di Sale as i've not yet smelled it, but it might be a less "mainstream" aquatic indeed.

Ok so I got a shit ton of freebies when I ordered a Shalimar extrait from a department store with a closing sale.

The perfume sample freebies were all Orange Soleia, and even though I typically have a dislike for prominent orangey notes, this one is pretty damn good. Obviously it opens up with a lovely burst of the stuff, but it is photorealistic and has a very welcome bitter/rind edge to it. It gets close to the skin after about 40 minutes, but the lovely bitter orange note just lasts and lasts.

Thierry Wasser is often chalked up as simplistic and part of the Guerlain downfall by the zealous "I want Jacques' cummies" crowd, but if it wasn't for him and Delphine Jelk, there would have been far less effort put into maintaining the classics. Plus they are extremely candid about the state of things when it comes to reforms and flankers (something the puritan fans REEEE about a lot), and I feel that is often overlooked.

To sum it up, this might be one for Allegoria anon to look into if he hasn't already, and Thierry Wasser is based as fuck.

Now to dab on some Shalimar.

Aquarius, same as Varg Vikernes. Can be charming, full of themselves, narcissistic and abrasive towards people who disagree with them.

>The reason that Aquarius men fall under the sub-type of Spiritual Narcissists is that of their need to continuously boost their ego. Generally, spiritual narcissists search for a higher purpose in order to feed their ego. This may be found in the form of religion, or self-help and self-improvement books. They seek to build themselves up through the stories and lessons of others. Spiritual narcissists, however, only use spirituality as a scapegoat for their real intentions of increasing their own egos..

drakkar is good, from what I understand it isn't as brutal as it's past formulations but a lot of people still like it. I was initially underwhelmed but came to like it, it has a very relaxing element about it. The deodorant is also cheap if you want to "layer" it although I doubt it helps massively, still got it. There is Dakar and DV and some other shit that smells like older formulations but I don't really see the point in messing with any of it when the current setup is nice.

dont have background in psychology, but heres my take as someone whos been through what i think hes going through now:
jeremy is struggling to find a purpose for his life. he has everything most men desire: his own place, a ferrari, has fucked multiple 10s, good stream of money from youtube, can easily finance a life of hedonism and enjoyment for the rest of his life. but having everything you want isnt enough, because you get used to it. jeremy is used to this life already, and it shows. his videos have become stale. his enthusiasm is feigned. what you see now is a facade. beneath the surface he is hollow, and has no purpose in life, hence the "im here to serve god and be the fragrance guy" shtick. he knows that the next step in life is to settle down and have a family, but he doesnt want to let go of his hedonistic lifestyle, even though hes bored of it. he thinks that moving to miami will change everything, but hell just be the same person there that he was in germany. his videos are only going to get worse and worse until he realises his fragrances are shit, his videos are boring top 10 lists of the same 10 fragrances in different orders, and his life has no meaning.

Do you guys have any recommendations for a frag for me? Plan on sampling them first somehow but it's nice to know what the connoisseurs think. I'm a 30 yrs old dude in pretty good shape and fairly reserved. Look a bit younger than I am. Mostly dress casual or business casual just to give you an idea so I would think nothing too loud as I'd prefer to be subtle. I like smoking cigars in my car and I'm member of a smoking lounge so if it goes well with stale cigar smoke that would be a plus lel. I also have a soft spot for historical things so if it was kind of a classic fragrance then that would he cool, but I also dont want to smell old. Any ideas?

This was really not what I expected. Luxurious, complex, formal civet says the flow chart. Plus its Putins scent. So I thought it would be this opulent, power macho frag. But instead of Putins gold plated office I get a golden sunset. This scent is super friendly and pleasant. My reference for civet is Kouros, and I dont get it here at all. Overall its very well blended, I need the dry down to make out specific notes, like the creamy honey without much sweetness. Really surprising, its so warm and welcoming without beeing clawing, like a hug from your favourite kindergarden teacher.

Morning /burn/ = Baieido Tokusen Kobunboku. This is the "excellent" incense from Baieido's Kobunboku line. It's a sandalwood/aloeswood blend with other spices. At first I wasn't too impressed with it, but burning it regularly as I've become more familiar with the nuances of Japanese incense has really brought its immense depth to life--alternately sweet, bitter, creamy, medicinal, and above all very woody. I can't recommend it highly enough if you're curious about this stuff. It's probably the best value for money in all of Japanese incense (box of about 150 sticks for $24, box of almost 500 for $40)

Following the Tokusen up with Baieido Kaden Kobunboku. This is the "family secret" blend from the Kobunboku line. It has a similar profile to the Tokusen with an emphasis on the bitter and acrid aspects of that stick's aloeswood component. Definitely a more aggressive burn, but no less complex. I haven't warmed up to this as much as the rest of the Kobunboku series (the Tokusen and Byakudan being my favorites, along with the OG Kobunboku), but I look forward to understanding it better as I burn more of it...

Smelling Mitsouko for the first time and Im enjoying it. I cant be bothered hunting vintage bottles, so if I want a current formulation, what should I go for? Edt, EdP or Extrait? Also the Wafts from the Loft guys shilled Mouchoir de Monsieur pretty hard, is it worth somehow finding a sample even if its really difficult?

>Les Histoires de Parfums 1725 Casanova
Smells like a lighter, less expensive version of MDCI Invasion Barbare or a richer, spicier version of Le 3e Homme de Caron. It doesn't have the green sharpness I like in a barbershop fougere.

>Xerjoff Pikovaya Dama
Incredible. It smells fizzy, like the smell of seltzer water. That persists over a bright, lemony opening and then settles down into a nice, spicy floral. Leans feminine. Lasts forever.

>Comme des Garcons 2
Another sparkly aldehydic. Another one that leans feminine, but is more unisex. It's odd. It smells like a really good version of fake rose. It's really good though. Wife really liked this one on me and herself.

>Mancera Soleil d'Italie
A sunny, summer, watery, citrus musk. It's very nice, but it's nothing special. Certainly not for the price.

>Tauer L'Air Du Desert Marocain
A masterpiece. You all know it already. I'm late to the party trying this.

>Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose
A big, powdery, lipstick-iris, rose. Smells pretty natural. Lasts forever. I bought this explicitly for my wife. I like it, but I suspect I like powdery scents more than most people. Reminds me of a less sweet Drôle de Rose by L'Artisan Parfumeur.

I don't think any one of them will be a full bottle buy, although I don't know if my wife will decide she wants to expand her own collection.

Most of the classic Guerlains are so old now that they've gone beyond "dated". A perfume is dated when it smells like old people. Nobody who wore the classic Guerlains when they were new is still alive, so they smell like something that stepped out of time.

Mouchoir de Monsieur is nice. It's Jicky without the animalic civet note.

Next up is Shoyeido Eternal Treasure (burning one long stick broken in two). This is one of Shoyeido's daily incenses, which are all sandalwood based and blended with various other natural ingredients. It's honestly one of my least favorite of the Shoyeido dailies; it's clove-heavy with a strong citrusy note that hits me like off-brand Sprite or 7-up. Lots of people seem to like this one though, and I burn it occasionally for the sake of variety. Some of the other Shoyeido dailies are among the best entry-level Japanese sticks, specifically Moss Garden, Kyoto Autumn Leaves, and White Cloud.
>>16019330
Yeah, I'm not familiar with Berk. As far as frankincense goes, if you can get your hands on Shoyeido's Diamond, that's a very affordable frankincense-based stick (about $6 per box in the US). It's relatively low-smoke and is absolutely lovely. One of my very favorite Shoyeido blends, easily the best of their "Jewel" series

I forgot how good this is. The opening is so big (as all of hers are) but it only takes maybe thirty minutes to tame itself, and after an hour it sits close. It snuggles up against you and stays warm and comforting. It was the first of hers I tried when I got the set and I think following it with things like Black Knight and Lover’s Tale meant it got heavily overshadowed, but I’m so glad I revisited it first.

Stupid question! How do you smell your fragrances? Do you bury your nose right in and sniff hard? Do you put your nose close and gently sniff it? I sometimes wonder if fragrances should be sniffed from different distances, like the closer you get the more you smell of the base notes or something like that.
