>There are few, if any, good watches between $1,000 and $3,000
I’ve said it before and hope I never have need to say it again: the vast majority of watches that fall in this price range are pure, unadulterated rubbish. Even the best of the lot put a polish on a $100 machine-made stock movement and drop it into a Chinese-made case and then, since the back was tightened by a Swiss housewife earning some part-time money, they put “Swiss Made” on the dial and mark it up 400%. If you just want something to tell time and match your last season’s Kenneth Cole shoes, go right ahead. But don’t have any illusion that you’re getting a fine watch.
> And finally, I will repeat what I have written in the past: There is no watch between $1,000 and $3,000 that is worth buying. Not one. In fact, it is a stretch to find more than a worthy handful under $7,000. I’m not sure why this comes as any surprise to readers, who continue to cry foul and sing the praises of inferior watches. My commitment to fine timepieces is well known, yet you continue to submit questions about $1,000 watches. As I said above, there are other websites you can visit and bloggers to read that will happily tell you what a fine watch you can get for a week’s pay. So don’t come here looking for the same drivel. You don’t see men’s fashion sites or magazines advising their readers to buy their suits from off-the-rack warehouses (or “wearhouses,” as the case may be). So if you seek advice about haute horlogerie, I am at your service. But for those who persist to beat the same drum of mediocrity, prepare to be ignored.

I actually didn't. Or rather, the movement, dial and handset were in beautiful condition, but the case was kind of demolished from overzealous polishing. So I sent it off to the Lapinist in Poland for a year, he eventually got around to it, and did an absolutely insanely great job. It involved micro-welding new steel onto the case, followed by sallaz refinishing. There's one spot on the case at 6 o'clock where it looks slightly less than perfect, which is a testament to what a stellar job he did. If you ever have a beat up case on a Seiko, and the watch is otherwise a good deal, I highly recommend sending it to him. It's a bargain.

Trust me, I'm aware. The Rolex is the most recent. Traded a SBGW253 for it. Also, while all the white dialed watches are similar, they're not quite identical. Snowflake has texture, 95GS is champagne sunburst, 62GS is silver sunburst, 45GS is matte... small differences. What can I say, I like the GS design language.

What do you mean, change it? The design language used on the SKX originates from Seiko's line of shrouded divers, known as Tuna divers by nickname. Seiko still makes Tuna models, but also took the same design language from those models and applied it to entry level diver models such as the 6309 diver introduced in 1976 (pic related) and later by the 7002 diver which has a similar case shape to the SKX but square indices.

The modern SKX took the 7002's case and combined it with a dial based on the 6159 and 6309 divers.

The first tuna didn't have bars at 3, 6, and 9, the bars at 3, 6, and 9 on the 6309 and SKX are not rectangular.

By your standards the Omega Seamaster Professional is also a homage of the Submariner, despite looking nothing like it. In reality it generally became the standard for serious dive watches to use a unique index for 12, round indices to hold the most lume the easiest, and unique indices for 3, 6 and 9. That and a rotating bezel are not enough to make a watch a homage to the submariner in any sensible view.

Rolex clearly cared when they created a watch to fulfil the same basic parameters as the Fifty Fathoms, down to the 3 6 9 indices, but by the late 1950s the unique 12 marker, large round indices, special 3, 6, 9 indices pattern had become a standard that crossed brands, as I already showed with the Fifty Fathoms mil-spec, and was not something unique to Rolex enough to make every diver that adheres to that standard a homage.

second, when you wear the watch on the wrist bone, it makes you look like you don't know how to wear a watch, it's less comfortable, and it can make you look more childish like that shit is flopping around on your tiny wrist. just wear it normally, above the bone. most importantly, when you wear your watch like that, you increase the chances of it being exposed to shock and damage.
it's a nice watch so you should wear it the right way.

You have six months or less before waiting lists and restricted availability.

>The standard plain Royal Oak is not brash, edgy, or gaudy.
Oh but it is.
It is just brimming with hard, sheer edges.

The polished flanks of the bezel for instance are slanted at a ~45° angle, while the Overseas bezel has a much flatter slant.
Also compare the part where the case turns down towards the bracelet; on the RO it's a hard edge, but on the Overseas it's a gentle swoop.

I'm already on a waiting list for a black dial Overseas.
The boutique guy almost wouldn't even talk to me because he assumed I wanted the blue dial version.

I live in the UK and sent it to someone in another part of the country. Servicing cost me £35 (a bit under $50 USD for reference), but the guy is retired and does work for "beer money" as he puts it. I've currently got one other Vostok Cadet off getting serviced by another watchmaker in Scotland who is charging me £47 for a service (see pic related for the watch).

Haha, that's it, last year you could call around a bit and still find a blue dial in stock, if you are on a waiting list for a black than it's basically over.
Did you call more than one boutique? I would call several before settling for a waiting list.

I can't see it happening. Overseas is only getting talk about due to availability. It's like the average girl you take home at the end of the night from the club for a pity fuck because all the more attractive ones were all taken.

You should actually look at some vids comparing RO and Nautilus to Overseas.
The comments are overwhelmingly about how the Overseas is the nicest out of them all.

Dude in pic makes a lot of good points, for instance.

I can't argue the Overseas is technically a better watch. Everything he says there is true especially about the movement and water resistance.

I still prefer how the RO looks.

I find the steel sports watches from the big 3 extremely embarrassing. Some of the most significant watch manufacturers in history relying on 50 year old, garish designs to move product, mostly to noveau riche scum.

Don’t get me started on the Overseas autist in these threads who insists on writing 10 page essays over the merits of the watch despite not owning one. If this thread was less niche, I would be sure this guy was a bonafide Vacheron shill.

You can buy that watch with the same complications just a different finish.
Just call some Vacheron boutiques and you should be able to find one.
