/sprezzatura/ - Mediterranean and Menswear General
This thread is for the well dressed man and those seeking to improve their dress by exploring colors, patterns, textures and other styles while appearing more mature, elegant and refined.
>What is “sprezzatura”?
Required viewing: https://youtu.be/_QG4lTMjWtY
Required reading: https://parisiangentleman.co.uk/2017/02/24/how-obsession-with-sprezzatura-can-kill-the-sprezzatura/
>Do I have to be European to wear this style?
Absolutely not. Anyone can wear this as long as they are confident and don’t care what people think. You should be dressing for yourself, not for others. Is this style more common in Italy and other Mediterranean countries? Absolutely. But you could wear this wherever you are.
>How is this different than Trad/Ivy/Prep?
Whereas the /TIP/ threads favor classic styles and tailoring, wider fits and more drape, Mediterranean and modern menswear favors slimmer cuts, tailored closer to the body to accentuate and flatter your body. Slim fit is allowed and in many cases encouraged.
>Where should I start?
Start with sport coats and mix and match with trousers. Experiment with colors and patterns. Don’t be afraid of color. This isn’t business style, where bland conformity is the norm. We want to be colorful, and experiment with fabrics. Wear linen, wool, cotton, anything you want.

If sprezzatura is making it look like you dress without effort, is it appropriate to dress like that for an event like a wedding ?
Shouldn't we show that we've put some effort into our clothing for big occasions ?

>> No.15928974

>>15928833
Sprezz is basically making it look like you didn't try when in reality you did. Unbuttoned collars as if you just didn't care to button them. Skinny ends of your tie longer than the wide end as though you don't even realize it. Stuff like that. It's about exuding a carefree attitude into dressing well.
For a big event like a wedding you would absolutely want to look perfect. This thread is for people that dress in suits and sport coats and other menswear casually. It's important to be aware of your settings and surroundings. When doing business I'll make sure my jacket is flawless. When I'm just out and about I may fold the cuffs of my sleeves just for fun

Thoughts on black suede casual footwear?

I’m trying to build a better wardrobe, starting with jeans for right now, going for a casual drakes/anglo-italian kind of wardrobe before I consider more tailoring. I’m really not a big fan of brown, even chocolate brown, I much prefer black since it’s more chic, but I don’t know if I’m making a mistake.

Probably pairing it with washed black/indigo/mid blue denim and various knits/polos, pic rel.

dont pair black with more black unless its accessories. black suede can be very nice, especially on a tassel loafer. keep in mind black dyes can fade fast if worn a lot in sunlight.

What's a good starting point for menswear? I have some chinos and button down shirts, a few polos. I wear the same shirt jacket every day to work (it's cold where I work) over a button down and chinos. Maybe sometimes I wear levis 501s.

Sickly people look like shit in a suit and if you're poor then it looks like a larp and if you're in a tropical environment your options are limited to basically just linen
That being said, you can wear anything you're confident enough to pull off. Look into a linen jacket or seersucker. Both are the quintessential tropical/summer fabrics, look into unstructured jackets so there's no canvassing and they're light and breathable. A casual jacket is easy when pairs with the right pieces, and if you're smart about materials you can wear it in whatever tropical shithole you're from

Speaking of Spier and Mackay, they had a liquidation sale and I got this suit for 200 bucks. Super 130s Italian wool, half canvassed. The following pics are straight out of the box, no alterations.
Tell me everything that appears to need alterations, don't hold anything back, so I know what to tell the tailor when I bring it in.

They need to give you more room in the seat, as you mentioned. The"wedgie" causes the V shape of your waistband...
How did you measure the inseam? My measurement instructions said to measure as high up as possible (88cm) which resulted in a very low rise for me, whereas when I measured to a comfortable height (85cm) the trousers became mid rise and the waistband became more straight.

I am extremely wary of those prices. Most likely any place offering a full suit at ¥30-40k uses a factory in China or Hong Kong. Still will be worth checking out just to see what is available.
For English friendly service there is Bombay Tailor and Mandarin Tailor. Both look bad and cater to military. Again check them out but be cautious. Bombay in particular has good internet rep with soldiers but stores his fabric vertically which is a huge red flag.
If you cheap out on a jacket it will not last more than a year or two. Talk to a ton of tailors and tell them your concerns. If all else fails buy chinkshit from Uniqlo and be prepared for it to fall apart in a year.

For a fucking suit? For one single suit? If you wear the same suit it will wear out. You need to get multiples that you can rotate and let rest and air out. Even if you got a 5k bespoke suit from Cifonelli or got one from Savile Row you would still wear it out if it's your only one.
Start simple, go MTM, get a decent one for a decent price and work on getting another and another.
A suit is just a small part of it. You gotta get nice shoes. It's an absolute must. You can't wear a suit with shitty shoes. My boss wears a suit to work everyday and he always wears these cheap looking derbies with a rubber cemented sole. I know I absolutely mog the shit out of him with my Goodyear welted oxfords that I polish regularly. Shoes are just as important as the suit.

Very nice. The alterations I can recommend would be maybe shortening the sleeve (its fine, really, up to preference), tightening the jacket around the waist a little bit and, of course, hemming the trousers. Personally i like a 5cm prerolled cuff but it may get too "busy" because of the pattern.
Buttoning stance is a bit high, the lapels open a bit too much and are pretty flat, but I dont think these can be fixed and are minor details.

Get things that fit well, get them tailored, pay attention to the materials. If something says “wool” but is surprisingly cheap it’s probably a shitty cheap wool/polyester blend.
Better to have a few very nice outfits than dozens of shitty cheap ones.
And work out. If you have a dopey pear shaped body you’ll look like a schmuck no matter what. Lift weights, build your traps, neck, shoulders, delts, and chest.
Easiest way to look like shit is to pair nice clothes with a shitty body so everyone knows the exact reason you feel the need to cope.

Here's some cheapass /sprezz/.
I paid 30€ for the suit, widened the trousers, shortened the sleeves and the jacket.
The shirt was given to me by my aunt after she had ripped a buttonhole with her huge tits, it fit me well in the neck and shoulders so I repaired it and took in the sides.
Feet are not in picture cause I was wearing slippers, but I recently got a pair of single monkstrap allen edmonds for 40€.

The same guy who I got it from also sold me a beautiful white silk db suit in a similar cut, but I haven't gotten around to altering it yet, I'll post it here for sure when I do it.
Linen shirts are great, I suggest getting them in as heavy a cloth as you find, they end up being just as cool but more robut and they crease less.

What purpose would there ever be for a throw away suit? It defeats the whole purpose. It should be quality from quality material, timelss and well made. I stress the timelss.

I can't understand a throwaway suit, but I can understand entry level or beginner suits that aren't meant to be your main suit for a long time.
Here in the US Mens Warehouse and Jos A Banks are for many people babby's first suit. People graduate from college and need a suit for interviews and whatnot and get something cheap because it's all they can afford.
Wear something like that, some body fused shit and then toss it when you get your first MTM canvassed suit.
