The Chinese tourbillion is in some ways the ultimate watch, it's quite literally a useless complication, even on a 100k swiss masterpiece hand polished with the foreskin's of baby mountain jews. So really the ultimate expression of a tourbillion is the chink shitter, where every other aspect of the watch is equally as bankrupt as the complication itself. Everything in balance.

The 7S movement in these things is awful... the 4R35/6 are ubiquitous but they work, and are accurate. 7S movements are off by like a minute a day most of the time, no hacking, no handwinding, shit sucks. The band that watch comes with is absolutely fucking heinous and needs to be replaced immediately. This watch is loud, you can hear the rotor rattling around like it's a Miyota. It looks good but it's not great.
Honestly if I'm in the woods I would want the no bullshit reliability of a digital quartz Casio or the reliability of Citizen quartz, not some field watch with an outdated movement and zero moisture resistance.
Also the crown on the Seiko is unironically too fucking small so it's hard to adjust the time if you have to. I split my nail once in an accident and this was my watch at the time and trying to dig that tiny recessed crown out made me throw that shit in the garbage.

if you really like dive watches try and get a second hand SKX, if thats not important to you try and get the DressKX as its 40mm, more wearable and no dickhead on the internet will claim its a pretend diver.

I recommended it because he clearly likes the styling enough to get the 5KX.
Also feel like the SKX is an end of an era for seiko; affordably priced dive watches that aren't all glammed up like the King Turtle or even the 5KX non-diver descendants.
>get an orient kamasu
agreed, kamasu is a very decent watch. I personally prefer the more proletarian aesthetic of the SKX over the shiny diver look that the (much better finished) Kamasu has.
And if you like shiny but no diver get the dresskx, it's dope.

After you get over the novelty of seeing a tiny portion of the balance wheel beating behind the huge undecorated balance bridge. You're just going to be faced with that fat ugly thing.

Open heart watches are all crap. Anyone who decorates their movement well enough has enough to actually be worth seeing has too much respect to make a simple open heart.

Open heart watches are like fake air intakes and faux carbon fibre body parts on a 10 year old corsa.

If you have any taste you will regret it

Even in wristwatches, seemingly useless and extremely expensive complications like tourbillons, chain-and-fusée, constant force mechanisms, ... still contribute greatly to accuracy.

Wristwatches are adjusted for a number of positions; 5 for chronometers, 6 for many other high-end brands that want to go one step beyond.
With a tourbillon, the positional variance is mitigated even more. Mechanical accuracy is already an extremely tight affair, so any little edge helps.
Some tourbillon wristwatches from the likes of De Béthune, Gruebel&Forsey, ... achieve absolutely insane accuracy, like <1s per day.

If you buy a Chink tourbillon, chances are it'll run worse than a non-tourbillon version.

Sping drive is great. The newer generation has accuracy that surpasses cheap quartz movements. I reckon it's something like +-10 seconds per month now. With that said, a big con compared to quartz is that spring drive still needs a service as it is a mechanical movements. Grand Seiko service is very expensive.

On the flip side Grand Seiko also has some of the most accurate, thermocompensated, vacuum sealed and of course longest lasting in house quartz movements out of them all. IF I were to buy a GS I would get a quartz because their cases housing Spring Drive movements are FAT.

Sure it is.

You get the accuracy of a quartz, but instead of being powered by a battery or capacitor, the power comes from a mechanical spring.
And as long as the gear train doesn't completely shatter, the regulator will adjust for wear so you'll never actually lose accuracy.

Theoretically, a spring drive could run for a hundred years or more as long as the gears still kinda work.

hopping on the Spring Drive discussion, it's really marvelously accurate, more than the 10s/month someone said earlier. Thing is, I usually don't wear it for a whole month since I have other watches in my rotation. The 72 hour power reserve is impressive though, it's cool to take it off on a Friday, put it on on a Monday and it's still going. I will say that the silent aspect, while cool, does sometimes make me miss the tickatickatick of a mechanical. I have pretty much one of everything in my watch box, manual wind, automatic, hi-beat, low-beat, quartz, high accuracy quartz, spring drive, digital solar radio g shock, pretty much all I'm "lacking" are an electronic / accutron style watch, maybe a mechaquartz? Nothing I would really miss. I think it's fun to have a range of different movements and types of watches in the collection. My Snowflake is definitely the biggest, but because of the case/bezel shape and titanium, it wears a lot lighter and smaller.

Display back movements are a novelty for cucks. They are totally unnecessary on any unfinished movement.

Most skeleton watches like >>15932690 look super cheap and plastic it just looks like they have slapped a shitty chrome job on the movement like you would see on a budget bathroom taps.

Skeleton dials are the /wt/ equivalent of having a window engine bay if it's something really special a real work of art then it makes sense. What looks good on a Lambo or a Ferrari would look stupid on your regular 5 Series.

Display backs are a little more forgivable as they are mostly hidden even if they add a bit of thickness to the watch. they don't take away from the design to humor some smooth brain morons.

tl/dr on a skeleton watch the design IS the movement. It better be something fucking special

I get that it's to each their own, but surely you can understand its more than that. Disconnecting from technology and connecting with the people you go with (your watch might be the most advanced piece of tech you use, which is part of the charm). Appreciating nature, being close to lakes/mountains/hiking trials or other outdoor activities to go do during the day. Getting drunk in the twilight and telling stories, playing campfire games, eating seared meat cooked over an open fire. Having sex with someone you love while under the stars, cuddling together to genuinely keep warm. In my eyes it's a taste of what it actually means to be human, even if it's a watered-down, safe version, but that's alright by me.

>Whilst the solid end links make the bracelet feel heavier, the solid end links have major practical benefits over the previous folded end links.

>The issue that Rolex had with the folded end links was that they lead to the bracelet getting a lot of stretch and play over time. They didn’t give the impression of robustness and quality.

>The solid end links are much more robust and are less likely to get dirt into the pins holding the links together, which reduces the wear. Naturally, a folded (and hollow) end link will rattle and not provide optimal stability for the bracelet to which it is attached.

>Due to the benefits of the solid end links, Rolex eventually introduced them as standard in all its watches.

The most important thing is that it’s very thin for a diver (and even for a modern watch in general) and that makes it a top watch in my book.

I think it would come to £470 half the rrp here in the uk. Doesn't seem mad for a modified 2824.

I have 7.25 inch wrists. Struggle to work out how big it would look on me some of the photos make it look like a dinner plate. They seem to have gone back to their old logo before invicta fucked it up.
