It's smaller than the prg-330 and, most important, it seems to accept normal straps and has metal lugs! Plastic lugs are just a bad idea.

In this case? How much they clash with the dial. Mercedes hands were made to divide lume on the hour hand so not to spill over. The pencil minute hand was a leftover from the pencil handset of the 1953 submariner. The lollipop seconds hand was changed but still kept the lume dot. So you had the circular and pointy hour hand, the pointy minute hand and the circular seconds hand on the predominately circular and slightly angular dial design. The circular minute track reinforced this.

Now look at the dial design on the Tudor BB36. The same predominately circular Rolex (cause they gotta market to the "it's just like Rolex but cheaper!" crowd) dial and chunky, blocky and out of place snowflake hands, cause in their designer's mind that's how they mark their brand. Snowflake is synonymous with Tudor as mercedes is synonymous with Rolex. Snowflakes work on the Pelagos, not when you try to blend them with Rolex dials though. Either way, I really do hope you enjoy it man, I really wanted to get the 36 blue as my first "luxury" watch but I just can't justify liking it.

I'm aware. I've serviced a bunch of 56 series movements, about half of which had broken rockers. Easiest solution, though not as good, is just gluing the cracked star wheel to the gear it's normally sitting on (but then it can't slip at all and breaks completely if you set the date at the wrong time). The real problem with them is the drive wheel pinion, which loosens with time and then the minute and hour hands can stop moving. No convenient way to fix that except find a spare.

This is a fair point, though GS does go the extra mile in hand adjusting the movements to compensate for them not being free sprung, and this is a bit of a dying art these days. Not really many watchmakers left doing extensive hand adjustments to hairsprings for smooth balance movements anymore.

I'm glad they went out of their way to preserve those skills even in their new free sprung movement design by having their watchmakers hand bend their proprietary overcoil geometry into the hairsprings.

Vintage Suwa movements often have long term wear issues, unfortunately. It's one of the reasons I stick to Daini models for vintage Seiko.

I would think that compared to the skilled labour required to hand adjust their regulated balance movements, they would see a labour saving from switching to a free sprung design across their range. It would also spread out the capital investments required to design and manufacture the new movement design over a much larger volume of units. I would be shocked if they don't bring the new design across their entire mechanical range eventually as a result.

I don't have a Tudor but I was just curious about why some people don't like it.
I actually don't like the BB36, and I think that your post helped me understand why : the snowflake takes too much real estate on the dial.

However I think this is OK on the BB41 because the dial is obviously bigger, and on the BB58 because the angulous snowflake kind of echoes the red triangle on the bezel.

But I don't like the Explorer while that watch seems liked by everyone on the internet, so maybe I'm just weird.
