I bought a pair a few years back and I never use them anymore, mostly because they are a bit too chunky for my taste, but also they are legitimately the most painful to walk in.
I took them to a weekend in Vegas and my feet were killing me at the end of every night.
I don't know what makes them so painful but they just aren't soft to walk in.

It's really about the price point. Last I checked, TBC is around $150-300 or so which puts them comfortably into low-mid range pricing. The quality isn't anything special; it's GYW mostly which is uncommon below $200. The leather is meh and I hear wears like shit. I assume unless they absolutely cheaped out on soles, it's fine; but you can also get a replacement for like $40-60.

>What's good about them?
It's really fucking hard to find good looking, reasonably well made boots at a price point sub $300. TBC produces actually good looking boots with meh quality.

>What would you buy?
I can't actually buy TBC without over sizing a shit ton because their lasts are fairly narrow and I have thick brick feet.

For this price range, you really don't have a lot of options. Your "jump up" would be to either those more luxury geared smaller shoe shops (I don't keep track of them because of the same issue as TBC). Your more commercial jump up would be Allen Edmonds, which has had some issues with QC in recent years, but are fairly solid per dollar on sale. You can also go to Alden which is harder to find, but generally better quality. Then you can go British after that.

Since no one wants to say anything productive - I copped a pair of their boots since they're relatively cheap, and I have a wide foot (not a lot of shoemakers have wide sizing). They are just okay. I wore them to the office almost every day for over a year. The stitching is hit or miss in some areas but has held together just fine. The leather is just okay. The sole is definitely a bit cheaper rubber but they have a goodyear welt and can be resoled if needed. Overall they're like a 5/10, you get what you pay for in terms of quality. $300USD is kind of the floor for boots if you want decent quality.

Thursday does an insane amount of marketing but that doesn't really fool anyone. They're 200-buck fashion boots. Not more or less.
If you want well made boots, I can recommend Cheaney and TLB Mallorca. TLB especially is great for the price. Their suede is actual reverse calf as well, as opposed to the regular split used by most.
Basically the big british or spanish bootmakers around the 300 - 500 range are the golden spot. Or Red Wings if you want work boots.

I would rather own an iron ranger or blacksmith that will last twice as long as a thursday boot for a little more money.
>You don't sound very old or a person who has many financial responsibilities
I'm single and make enough money to where I buy what I want if I can afford it.
I'll almost always get the best I can afford when it comes to things that are important and meant to last. I have a nice veg tanned leather briefcase that I didn't cheap out on. I have two pairs of ~350 dollar boots. I have headphones that cost 150-500 bucks. I own 2 pairs of 200+ dollar sunglasses. Contrarily, my desk chair cost 20 bucks. My desk cost 30. When my car got a dent/paint damage I sanded it down and sprayed on some silver rustoleum and it's protected.
Some things are worth investing in for some people. Just depends what you value.
