That's it, in 2021 I'm buying a Rolex Submariner. I am currently debating over which model to get, I really like the clean look of the 2 liner 14060m (also it's pretty fucking cheap at 7k Euros for a submariner) or the newest 2020 model 124060 which would cost me more than 10k. But I learned that entry/mid tier shitters don't scratch my itch anymore so fuck it, I'm going all out.

The 14060m is 40mm big, has a lean look and small indices. It's been produced during the early 00s.
The 124060 is 41mm big, isn't as lean but leaner than the 114060 fat piece of shit, and has maxi indices. It's the newest no-date model. Do you think the difference in age will have a significant impact on reliability and servicing costs down the line?

To be honest, I like the 2 liners right now but actually now I'm quite unsure. It's a minor detail I suppose but the 4 line text is so iconic, it almost feels like it's a must for a sub. Hm, do you have an opinion on these 2 watches?

>pic related is not 124060 but rather 114060, as I said the 124060 is a bit leaner but has a bigger case. but you see the difference in 2vs4 liner and big vs smol indices

Get the newer one. The old one has better proportions but it's getting old and starting to look dated, and not in a good way. It's not quite as dated looking as the tudor sub era cases but it's getting there.

Just because the rolex market is insane doesn't actually mean it's a good idea to buy a 20 year old dive watch with who know what kind of history. Too much fuckery, even though it's a modern sub it's still old enough to qualify as vintage at this point. Especially if you intend to wear it and use it regularly you want a new watch. with the older model you already have to start thinking about sending it to rolex for service, where they might just replace a hand or dial or some or all of the movement without a care, or taking it to some specialist to do services while keeping the watch original.

I'm looking for something very simple and cheap like pic related, but in 42-44mm. It doesn't have to be a leather band, I don't mind fake leather or cloth but I don't like bracelets. I like the simple white face (would be okay with silver) and roman numerals, although I would prefer the numerals to be in a more Romanesque font. I would like at the very least a date window, but having the day of the week would be good too. I don't like it to look too cluttered on the face, though.

Any suggestions?

Help me out anons, I've decided to start building a proper collection and I think I wanna get a 36mm left field ish dress watch, and a vintage style diver. I'm looking at Oris and Tudor, Big Crown Pointer Date and BB36 for dress-ish and Divers 65 and BB58 for diver. I'm leaning towards Pointer Date and 58 but I understand the latter is hard to find, and I'd wanna buy one legit if I'm dropping 4 grand on a watch so I can get a proper warranty. Hello, I am retarded and gay. I would like to get a silver bracelet style band for an old Casio MDV-106 I have, but I'm not sure how safe it is to buy one online. It's 22mm, but is there anything else I need to look out for so I get a band that's compatible with it? Thanks.

The best watch you can get into is a 300m, older or newer. Planet Ocean, Aqua Terra or Speedy are other options. They are better watches than the blackbay line whatever /wt/ says. You have to see them in person they are hard to photograph.

You can get them on the Grey Market from trusted dealers (i use watches world) for close to used prices.

A few guys here will come out of the wood works bashing Omega but they are hard to beat for the money.

I recently posted this ugly rarity from my collection. It’s the kind of thing that is incredibly rare, but not valuable. Lacking the aftermarket support of mod and spare parts it was relegated to the drawer. I was able to snipe a beaten up example for cheap, which I’ll refurbish and nurse back to working condition. This way I won’t feel bad getting this damaged from daily wear. It’s when you get multiple examples of the same watch that you realize you are on the spectrum. Rule of thumb here: If it's affordable, it isn't luxury. Matter of fact: If you can just walk into a shop and give them your money for it, it isn't luxury.. Luxury involves exclusivity, waiting for it, being denied the pleasure and various barriers to entry. However artificial (think Rolex subs), that's what makes something luxury: The manufacturer making it as hard as possible for you to acquire it..

Mechanical watches as a concept is a total bullshit, th most important things in a watch are desing and utility. Design can be done well in quartz and mech, quartz beats mech in utility by far. All mechanic watches are meme shit like fake heritage, proposition value, in house movement that most of the time it does the same work as a mass produced and has highest repair fees and overall mechanical has a high maintenance so you are a cuck for paying more to get a mech and then paying more for having the repairs done. And don't even talk about accuracy, talking about accuracy in mechanical watches is a pure circlejerk, everybody knows their accuracy is terrible compared to quartz yet the circlejerkers congratulate themselves when their expensive shitters run at +45s per month.
Watches should be bought thinking about the design instead of the type of movement, not buying something you like because it is quartz is retarded.

If that doesn't get your juices flowing, and you're not that particular about like quality construction and such, then yeah, it's just not for you and would likely be a waste of money. There is not doubt 10k for a mass produced dive watch is silly on one hand, but then the fact they don't lose too much value, and may actually increase in value is there. Then you need to consider Rolex's will only impress the plebs and normies. You may look like kind of an asshole to anyone who knows anything about watches. At the end of the day, 98% of the time, it's a basic bitch flex piece.

You can make $10,000 go a LONG LONG way if you know what you are doing. I turned $2,000 into a half a million dollar company in 4 years. So unless you make over $200,000 a year, you will really look like an asshole. I like the rule of thumb, that your watch should be 2 weeks of your earnings.
