i'm in europe and this yves saint laurent ultime was supposed to be a christmas gift but it's sold out everywhere. Does anybody have a good alternative to this fragrance, i'm not really sure what he likes about it. He's 22 a college student and skates occasionally, likes going to the gym, not a club guy (i'm not really sure what else to tell you that would help giving me advice)
max i'm willing to spend would be 250€
This would be much appreciated!

TL;DR : need an alternative to ysl ultime l'homme edp as a gift cuz it's sold out everywhere where i live

I bought an old spice shower gel and this is a one funny scent. If not generations-long bias that it's a masculine fragrance then to my nose it could be repackaged, tweaked slightly bit and sold as a womens fragrance. Check out if Alain Delon Iquitos is available in your country cheaply. It's reminiscent of the oldschool Kouros (but with a big dose of rose and a bit more dandified fruity vibe on top of it) and the civet here is what it used to be in 80s. I was lucky that in my country bottles go for as low as $5-$10 but I know that in US people buy these vintages for $300 or so.

What I like the most about fragrances is their transformative power for my mood and state of mind. I got fragrances when I want to feel confident, lifting my mood, reflective etc. It's absolutely impossible for me to wear a clone, I'd just feel like I'm faking it with wearing a fake rolex. I had a phase where I had tested dozens of clones. The truth is that maybe 2-3 were legit good. Either they don't smell or perform (especially in the case of oils) like originals or even if the scent resembles the original for the first few minutes it falls apart shortly after. Also virtually all of the clones smell good when you're sniffing them yourself. Try them on something else and see what a chemical mess they become at distance.

Lads, I sprayed CdG Monocle Scent One: Hinoki from my recent sample haul and I'm in love. It opens beautifully with a refreshing tree resin and black pepper that you can smell all the way up to your sinuses. Shortly after the woodiness and incense become more prominent but it has the undoubtfully coniferous character prevails. It immediately transports me to a woods cabin where you took a week off to forget about your job and all the bullshit. I have a soft spot for coniferous scents and this pushes all of my buttons, so it jumped to my favorite of CdG incense based scents (I tried Avignon, Zagorsk). I only hope that the drydown will be as good. I was also in love in Zagorsk until it started turning sour-bitter on my skin after 1h and then weirdly powdery.

Like I can tell when orange or lemon is used in the case of VPH or AHS, but when it's grapefruit in say The One EDP or BDC or even as a citrus bomb in some freshie i forget the name of, I can't pinpoint it the same way I could a sea scent, or oud or pepper.

If you want this thread to be trolled/baited let people with a bit higher social intelligence do it. No offense, there's nothing wrong with it but you try so hard and yet cannot sustain a cohesive point over more than two posts. I also don't get what is really your problem and why you waste so much time and effort here. People don't shit on popular/designer scents for the sake of it. Quite the opposite, many very popular scents are held in high regard here. Even Aventus, that's the core of your argument, is not unequivocally hated. The only explanation I have is that you got triggered by someone/something in this thread and now are acting like a little bitch, Since you've clearly spent plenty of time here you should know that we've been through this many, many times in the past and no one cares too much about one or two anons shitposting because of some autistic personal vendetta against the entire thread. But let me for a second assume that you've inded just randomly came to 4chan to this thread to make this series of posts and are not regular in any sense lol. I can assure you that in we were always fine the next day and all the effort put into shitposting didn't make any lasting difference. You do you though, feel free to invest more of your time into this straw man battle but trust me that everyone can see through it.

>is it odd that I sometimes have grapefruit for breakfast and as a drink after work but I still can't tell when grapefruit is being used in a frag?
I've read an interesting article about it actually recently. Apparently it's impossible to extract the smell of grapefruit. Its esters are too unstable for that and break down seconds after attempting to extract them. That's why perfumers try to recreate the scent creatively using other citruses and ingredients. That is quite funny because you can easily extract grapefruit taste and its really prevalent in food industry to use it.

>> No.15786492

>The grapefruit note in perfumes is only a delicious dream. The naturally pressed grapefruit oil is too unstable to be used in perfumes (and instead is used for food flavoring). Encre Noir is overrated, it's more yellowish/green due to the vetiver. The earthy aspect is about 10 % in this frag. If it would be only 10 % green, grassy vetiver and 90 % watery, earthy it would easily my favorite and actually the name "Noir" would be much more deserved.

anubis for me was very dense and so much going on, I think other people can love this but I like them more subtle and simple, usually (I wear en passant a lot, etc).

Interesting that you consider Bengale Rouge “massive”. I guess when I only sample things home alone I have no real concept of how big a fragrance is but to me it feels like a subtle one, but I guess it can still be a subtle smell, just one that you can smell from far away. It lasts an eternity though.

When it comes to fougeres, it usually means "barbershop" fougeres which usually have a cream-like accord to them in addition to smelling like clean, green lavender.

Yes, there's a prominent smoky cedar note but keep in mind that it stays really coniferous. If you want to smell like a sawmill then there are better scents doing that. Perhaps sawmill processing pine wood only is a closer to how it smells. Gorgeous stuff, get a sample for sure. I should add after testing it for the whole day that the performance is average - you get ca. 5-6h and it doesn't project a lot but I don't mind. In my mind it's a type of fragrance I'd wear to feel good for myself not others.

It's peppery but that's not true that it smells like Wonderwood at all. I used to have a bottle of it. Wonderwood is more of a dry woods scent. Hinoki is way more green and piney. Or do you mean that it has the same cedar note? If so, then I think you're right.

Finally ran out of the first frag I ever bought, YLS La Nuit. Tried Guerlain L'Homme Idéal L'Intense and it smelled so good, has a similiar kind of top note spicyness, but the leather, smoke, almond, vanilla and wood after that just smells so much better than anything i have smelled before. Just had to order a full bottle, hopefully I get it before xmas.

Need help finding two fragrances that describe the scents I'm going after:

1) Something that smells like the forest ground the morning after rain, e.g. that smell when you stick your hands in the dirt and soil and it actually smells good, alive, and pleasant. I don't know how to describe it....petrichor? I guess something mossy and green, but with forest-y and dirt vibes.

2) Something that smells like you took a hike through the Northern California coast, whether Oregon, the Redwood forest, or Yosemite. Ideally something pine-y, like you live in the woods with a lot of coniferous trees.

Can anyone tell me about this frag and whether or not it's worth a blind buy? Beginning of last year I bought these frags, ended up giving the Nautica and Burberry frags to a buddy, wore the f black occasionally but am just coming close to finishing my bottle of Sauvage.

I as looking at buying a bottle of Armaf CDNIM or Hawas for Him Rasasi, don't think I want to pull the trigger and buy a bottle of Aventus for now, maybe something cheaper. I'm just looking for a skeleton key frag that'll receive positive reception and isn't so expensive. I'll probably be buying another bottle of Dior Sauvage in the new year but I'd like to try something different that'll be a safe blind buy so I don't waste a ton of money again.

Description:
Composed of the sounds of the words Samba and Café, this invented name, directly announces the theme of work of this new stopover: Brazil.

Sambaka is an Oriental Woody based on a CO2 extract of Café Santos from Brazil.

Super realistic this material offering all the balsamic nuances of a freshly roasted coffee explodes in the lead bringing in its wake the spicy scents of cardamom and green ginger.

The Orange Pera from Brazil brings its greedy freshness to a softly animalic Coffeewood accord.
