The dial is a work of art: the wreath of hour indexes is masterfully brushed into a subtle sunburst texture emanating from the centre, and separated from the inner part of the dial by a grooved ring connecting all three subdials, each of which is decorated by even more, and even smaller grooves, as if you were wearing a portable Zen garden on your wrist, complete with a sun-reflecting Koi pool in the middle.

The boat-shaped sloped indices circle the otherwise peaceful dial in an aggressive and almost threatening manner, like the Western vessels arriving to Japan in the 16th and 19th centuries, reminding the wearer of the Japanese concept of mono no aware - the melancholic awareness of the impermanence of all things, yet the pearly luminescent material inside the "ships" hints at a possibly lucrative paradigm shift. A similarly pearly tachymeter chapter ring borders the great tapestry of the dial, allowing you to time your achievements in this life and push yourself to the very limit, for the sake (https://kanpai.my/shop/jozen-mizuno-gotoshi-sparkling-sake-360ml/)) of your family, and the glory of your nation. A coffin-shaped hour hand, a Tower-shaped minute hand, and a compass bezel combine this eclectic mixture of freemasonic esotericism and ominous Tarot symbolism with the promise of always being there and helping you find your bearings in life.

May you always find your way out of the proverbial forest, and wear it in good health. Kanpai!

I've always wanted one actually, and originally I thought I'd do a JLC Reverso for that function. Then I tried one on and hated it. I'm really tempted to do something vintage (i.e. rectangular hand-wound Omega from 1920s/30s)...and there's nothing that is talking me out of it so far.

>>15719729
Curious...I wear suits regularly throughout the year, though not on a daily basis. They're awesome if they're fitted to you well. Regarding the 'separate uniform'...since people in society still judge others by how they dress, uniforms are what we wear throughout life unless we live outside of society. As tempting as it is to do my business wearing pajamas, it's not practical, safe, or confidence building in my clientele who pay me....lol

>>15719758
It depends on what brand, which dealer you're buying from, etc. Covid-Year is a crapshoot though; prices for Omega have continued to go up regardless this past year.

It is much much easier to just have an extra hand that runs on a 24 hour timeframe. I think there are ways to cheaply do it that can break easily. Alright anon, you have my interest, redpill me about the Forester :
is it actually any good?
As far as I can see it's a G-Shock that actually looks good, but does it hold up?
100m WR isn't that great but kinda fit for purpose as far as a field watch is concerned, but are they shock resistant? Do any of them come with solar charging? Are the straps rugger enough?
or are they just popewatches for larping neofolk posters?

It's okay brother, there aren't many options for us wristlets. Women's watches, vintage stuff. Worry more about lug length then case diameter, you should be able to wear pretty much any size watch as long as the lug length is below 35mm.
If you have really tiny wrists there are loads of amazing vintage watches that sell for dirt cheap because nobody wants a 33mm watch. I found a fantastic hand winding Credor with a 18k gold case and a beautiful porcelain dial on yahoo auctions japan for less than $3,000.
If you are okay with quartz there are loads of 33mm solid gold credors to be found for less that $500.

>They are one of those who are extremely aggressive about selling shit for extreme markups on the sole basis of branding (see Panerai).
Time for me to defend Panerai...again. One day I’ll write an essay on them and just link it to critics. They get a lot of flack, some of it deserved but much of it not. What were the issues?
>blamed for the popularization of oversized watches in the early 2000s
>the perception was that their brand ambassadors were tasteless
>Panerai used ETA movements exclusively until 2002 but have been phasing them out since and as of 2018 only use in house movements
>they’re big
>extremely weak on the second hand market
Now what are the strengths of modern Panerai?
>excellent dial finishing
>iconic case shapes with the Luminor and Radiomir
>constant experimentation with new materials in cases and materials with composite ceramic and carbon fiber
>they now make watches in the 38-42mm range rather than 44mm+
>their in house manufacture makes unbelievably complicated tourbillons on the high end
Panerai is not perfect, but they’ve been on a massive upswing in the last decade or so. Their new CEO knows what he is doing and is pushing the brand the right direction. I’d still like for them to introduce new case shapes, but I know a draw of the brand is that they only make 3.

I'm not sure if it was Panerai , was there a watch company that release a watch that was actually a special custom order on general sale ? I'd be pissed off if I paid for a one off piece and found they took the design and just sold it so everyone had one

For anyone not aware of this amusing story about Panerai:
>2009
>Panerai comes out with a limited run of 150 watches at NYC boutique
>the watches inexplicably came with an unfinished Unitas 6497 movement
>internet melt down
>Panerai claims it was a mistake, will replace with an in-house movement for free
>now 150 pieces are even more segregated into original vs replacement movements
>original watch with dogshit movement is now worth MORE money, Panerai gets massive publicity
The question is whether Panerai did it intentionally to drum up attention or if it actually was somehow an accident to fit the watches with the wrong movement (as they claim). The world will never know, but the original watches are now quite precious to Panerai enthusiasts. Pic not related

I disagree with this claim. PP makes plenty of other desirable watches. I think most people know that Patek is still in a league of their own regardless of the hype or lack thereof around the Nautilus.

AP is less complicated. You’re certainly right that the RO appears to be the only watch people want, but they still make other beautiful pieces. I find the Millenary 4101 captivating in its madness, though I’d bet most people hate it.
