I like Y by Yves St Laurent. What’s ya’ll’s opinion on it?

>> No.15656138

>>15656135
It's an ok office scent, nothing remarkable, on par with ADG, BDC and Prada L'homme for that "safe, work friendly" vibe.
Not a bad frag imo, as in not one I wouldn't use if gifted but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to buy a bottle.

Not him but I personally think that Prada Amber Pour Homme leans towards feminine. Great frag for office-wear, and quite cheap too. Infusion d'Homme is also worth looking at, but I don't think it leans feminine. If you live in a tropical country, Bright Neroli is a great office scent that's floral and airy.

Thanks! I’ll give those a sample next time I’m at a fragrance store. I actually don’t use it as an office scent, I wear it on my days off or when I’m going out. I intend to. I want to do more thorough write-ups at some point. As I've said in previous posts I'm no expert and don't have the most finely developed nose, so don't expect wonders, it's just fun for me.

The Lover's Tale is so snice it's unreal. It starts off with hints of sweetness, and a mix of animalics and florals. To put it in the context of "lovers", perhaps a beautiful bouquet presented to a lover at her doorstep, and what follows is carnal, but not without care or passion. The animalics represent the carnal, the florals the delicate passion. The florals eventually disappear and it just becomes sensual. It sits close to the skin, but that's OK because nothing else matters but the closeness of the two lovers. After a while it all settles down and you're left with the musk and the animalics, the lingering reminder of what's just happened, and what might happen again shortly. It takes on a slightly smoky quality. Perhaps a figurative representation of the fires of passion, or perhaps more literally a traditional post-coital cigarette.

No personally I wouldn’t bother with the limited edition unless it were unique for its own reasons. For example a nice Lalique/Baccarat crystal flacon would make me consider getting it (most likely I wouldn’t get it anyways - why not just buy a piece of glassware with some utility without paying extra). In the case of just releasing a flanker of a scent it would need to be an order of magnitude than the original I loved already to but it. For example I’m considering getting Ormonde Jayne Elixir which is supposed to be a better, more concentrated Ormonde Man. Will obviously sample it first tho.

All this hierarchy is a bullshit circle jerk. When you smell the fragrance, you will instantly recognize whether you love it, like it, tolerate it, or hate it. I had a shower earlier and it rejuvenated Sex and the Sea and I could smell it again. That pineapple is going to haunt me. I've now got The Dark Side on my right wrist but it wouldn't surprise me if I started smell Sex and the Sea through it soon.

The Dark Side offers up subtle incense beneath woods and spices. There's a specific spice I can think of, possibly cumin, that seems to stick out a little more, but it's a little hard to tell. It's very pleasant, but hasn't blown me away quite like the others, although I didn't enjoy Sex and the Sea too much. Not that it was bad, just not for me.

Anyone ever try Higher by Dior? I'm admittedly not super knowledgeable about fragrances and looking to buy my first real bottle but reading about the notes this sounds very up my alley - fruity, herby, woody and maybe a little bit grassy/foresty. I tried all of these but Isfarkand and Royal Elixir. There's defiitely a strong DNA connecting all of their scents (what I really like) but I'm actually considering getting Black Gold, Motabaco Verano and perhaps Nawab of Oudh. These 4
+Ta'if and Tolu (that is like a more feminine take on Chypre Palatin) are all top tier. I also liked Montabaco, Zizan, Ambre Royal but not as much as those. How is Royal Elixir? Some people say that it's a strict upgrade of OJOM others that it's too heavy on Oud or that it's rather more similar to Ormonde Women. From what I read they bottle the scent only before posting by mixing OJOM oils with some Oud oils to get an extrait. I love OJOM and it's one of my favorite scents but think that Royal Elixir might be a bit too much. Would be curious to hear your thoughts.

>I'm admittedly not super knowledgeable about fragrances and looking to buy my first real bottle but reading about the notes this sounds very up my alley - fruity, herby, woody and maybe a little bit grassy/foresty
Lesson 1: you never know the scent until you put your nose on it. The notes are mostly used for marketing reasons. Always. Try. The. Scent. First. I reckon you can get a sample quite easily on eBay, I'm pretty sure I've seen bottles of Higher in my local Sephora, too, so look around. To give you an example: Vilhelm Notes' Morning Chess has notes of bergamot, leather, galbanum, patchouli and black amber as listed but what they achieve is a pinneapply scent that immediately brings to might Creed's Aventus despite these two not sharing almost any notes. On paper Morning Chess should smell vastly different.

Ormonde Jayne Man is classified as an EDP but a sales associate told me that the perfumer (whatever her name is) doesn't believe in EDTs so her EDPs are actually 30% oil no filler and her extraits are 40% oil no filler. I don't know if that's true or not but OJ Man definitely does leave some oil on your skin.

Yeah, give a try to Ta'if. I've used some attars in past but they never left my hand as oily as Ta'if. It was shiny for 6h straight till I took a shower. It's not as bad/good with OJOM but definitely it takes some time for skin to absorb it as you're saying.

I think after an hour this is the first one I could describe as light and pleasant. Not that the others are unpleasant, far from it, but it’s dominated to me largely by florals. Anyone familiar with the quality of Lalique's Les Compositions Parfumees line? It seems to be their higher end line and they're all EDPs of seemingly niche quality focusing on metallic notes (others not so metallic but still quite interesting). Wondering if you guys would recommend going for this line. I'm after pic related and in aus it's stupid cheap.

I know that it's most likely just a bait but tell me what's your motivation for getting a fragrance? If you really want to find out scent that you'd like then look up OP or >>15656108 and start sampling. Why are you asking for a fragrance suggestions giving us your stance on your philosophy towards women instead of who you are, what smells do you like, what's your style? Is this the only defining quality of your personality? Don't get me wrong, sometimes I really wish my libido wasn't so high and I could stop chasing hot women because it already fucked up me a few times and I really got many things going in my life that I could focus instead but I never could understand this mindset where you withdraw from it but don't have anything to replace it with. If you did this then focus on your hobbies, developing yourself and creating something big or fuck it at least enjoy the shit out of your existence like hookeranon does. But again, it's either a bait or perhaps the fact that this thread is the only connection to 4chan and I don't really understand these things.

So far I’ve tried:

The Lover’s Tale
Sex and the Sea
Under My Skin
The Dark Side
Lost in Heaven

I’d say the first three are well worth sampling, the last two are arguably more wearable but less interesting. Sex and the Sea wasn’t one I enjoyed particularly, but it’s definitely unique and interesting. Obviously there may be others worth trying but I only have so many wrists. Despite my lessened enthusiasm for the last two, if I’d tried them independently I’d probably still recommend them, they’re just lacking the same punch as the others. But maybe that’s what you want.

Correct. That's why I always chuckle when I read people calling Black Aoud synthetic and recommending at the same time some other oud+rose frag using exactly the same Firmenich's rose and Givaudan's oud base. It's just made loud in Montale but ingredients are the same. To get something different without going into middle eastern or luxury oud fragrance/attars I think the cheapest natural smelling oud is Diptyque's Oud Palao (but I doubt it's 100% natural either). Beware though that you might not be into natural oud actually. It's often barnyardy.

I was looking into layering and I thought it was spraying two frags on top of each other but this dude in a vid I'm watching mixed the two frags together for 24 hours before spraying on

Am I retarded or is he

>> No.15660994

>>15660990
He is retarded. There's no point of going to such length just to get a mix of two scents. Also if that's you then you should know that BR540+Aventus is not as amazing as people try to make it. It's more of a mix of two overhyped fragrances than anything else.

>> No.15660995

>>15660990
Sounds like he's retarded unless he knows what the exact ratios are, but even then there's no point since a spritz is going to be much more accurate measure. But even then you don't need to physically layer the fragrances, you can spray them in different places on your body so you're constantly noticing different facets of each.

>> No.15661000

>>15660953
I will do. It's amazing fun.

Lost in Heaven feels like the happiest, most uplifting so far. The use of florals is so good. It adds something delicate to what could easily be heavy and overbearing. The spices are doing a lot of work here too. It has an almost gourmand quality, like a beautiful spiced dessert. If by body odour you mean a kind of dirty sweaty smell I'd say no, I don't really consider it in any way dirty or unclean. To get a little elaborate in a description maybe you could say it's like a "clean" sweat on somebody wearing a floral perfume. They're not exerting themselves, they're just hot and the mixture of florals is mingling with natural smell of their body. Maybe. It's not as loud as the others I've tried and it seems to have become more subtle, more like it's emanating from me naturally like Under My Skin rather than sitting on me and projecting enormously like Sex and the Sea.
