It's supposed to be the entire fig plant - fruit, leaves, bark. I think the initial blast is like a rich green without being foresty (eg piney) or wet ferny. The skin scent phase comes quick (2-3 hr for me) but it's oozy green creamy with the coconut and fig. Fucking love this shit.

Papillon Bengal Rouge (Great oriental but might be a bit polarizing.)
Rien Intense Incense (amazing modern, leather-aldehydic chypre but don't overspray it. When ELDO say Intense it's really intense. I once felt lie I'm gassing out the room after wearing only 3 sprays)
Yatagan (I'm not so sure about this one. Apparently old versions were olfactory equivalents of rape in the woods but on me it was pretty polite and snice castoreum on green-woodsy background that dried down to a comfy vanillic thing.)
Pour Un Homme (It's great lavender but might be challenging to pull off).
Bentley for Men Intense (cozy boozy F/W cheapie)
Prin Anatolia (I don't know this one but Prin always delivers)
Le Parfum De Therese (Great aquatic. Wrote a longer post about it couple threads ago.)
Philosykos (basic but good designer reference fig frag)
Tam Dao (basic but good designer reference for sandalwood)
>I’m still learning but it’s great fun being able to slowly detect more and more notes.

I wore my sample of Bengale Rouge this evening and I get 90% cinnamon, which seems against the grain. The vanilla seems to be more subtle and I’m assuming that the other prominent note is myrrh because I’m not familiar with it, and it’s definitely not tonka, honey or rose.

It’s a perfect evening scent. It feels like it sits close to the skin, but is ideal for wrapping up warm with a book and just basking in the miasma of warm spices and subtle sweetness.

Just tried Amouage Enclave and it smells like a synthetic monstrosity to me. Watch it be the next hyped men's niche perfume. On the other hand, I just tried Spice and Wood and I'm pleasantly surprised. Not at all worth the money they ask, but it is very nice. I'd definitely pay ~175 for a bottle. I wonder how good it was before the reformulations. Also tried Royal Oud and it's also nice, but it had a weird musty smell to me in the opening.

Today’s first sample: Caron Pour Un Homme

My immediate thoughts were “What the hell is this?”. I had no idea how lavender, vanilla, and musk could smell like this. Almost a touch pissy, just slightly “off”. But now it’s been an hour it’s the most deliciously smooth vanilla and lavender combination. Being so simple I’m not sure how much this will develop, but after an initial unimpressive first blast and opening I didn’t really like it, but it really settles down nicely.

>> No.15650708

>>15649470
Yes, that’s the smell exactly.
>>15650543

>>15649851
Similar thoughts here. I think it’s OK and my nose doesn’t find it too synthetic (but it might be different for you, I reckon you might react this way to Amber Extreme which is Ambroxan on steroids) but funnily my girlfriend absolutely loved it on me. She was coming to me just to get some whiffs of it. For me its kind of pointless release as Beach Hut is a better mint-forward scent with darker undertones than Enclave.

It just says that there’s a new MEMO scent out and they are going to add 4 samples to orders. Indeed Winter Palace is one of the best tea frags I know. I got interested in it because of Tolu that I love Chypre Palatin for but Winter Palace is so much more than tolu. It gives it an oriental deep balsamic vibe but it remains fresh and zesty thanks to citruses. Really three dimensional composition that’s appropriate for any season. I have it on my ‘want’ list looking for a good deal to show up.
>>15649508
Salome is a beautiful complex animalic floral scent. The animalic notes are balanced out and everything all together reminds me of a dark chocolate smell. I would not necessarily wear it’s outside as I am aware that my nose and reception is a bit different than that of general public but still can enjoy it in home.
>>15649507
That’s a good fit.
>>15649500
Ok dude, what the fuck, are you my doppelgänger? Austeritz and Extinxtion are one of my fav books (albeit I prefer The Looser when it comes to Bernhard). I very vaguely remember that we talked about books already long time ago here - in any case check out Krasznahorkai too. What amazes me tho is that you also love MDCI and Chergui. Yes it is. It's not entirely bad (but there's nothing special about it - it's a routine baby's first spicy vanilla) but should cost 2-3x times less. With Tarr I started with Satantango. Go big or go home. I thought maybe I wouldn’t like it. The first shot is seven minutes of cows walking around. Knowing I still had over seven hours to go I wasn’t sure what I was in for. I was hypnotised. I watched it over three days (I’ve seen it twice and did so both times) as it has intermissions. The slow pace didn’t make it feel like nothing was happening, it made me anticipate what it was leading to. The soundtrack, the cinematography, the acting are all sublime. I firmly believe Mihaly Vig’s score for Werckmeister Harmonies is the best I’ve ever heard. Valuska is probably my favourite piece of music from any film.

His earlier films feel almost like like social-realist Ken Loach films, but with a communist Hungary backdrop. If you’re interested in his work I don’t think it would be bad to go chronologically. If you want to know what he’s all about, start with Satantango. If you want a flavour of what he’s all about in a more manageable package try Werckmeister Harmonies. It’s still one of the best films I’ve ever seen, it just doesn’t have the grandiosity of Satantango. If such a film can be called “Grandiose”. I should also say I hadn’t read any Krasznahorkai until after seeing all of Tarr’s films so it makes no difference. Plus Krasznahorkai doesn’t like to call them “adaptations”, but an independent piece of art inspired by the books.

In the meantime my SOTD is Rien Intense Incense. I sprayed it expecting my entire body to explode but what I’m getting is a rather big, but very pleasant note I assume is aldehydes because it’s reminiscent of something in Kouros. I could see this getting to be a bit much after a while, but maybe it settles down and becomes much more easy going. Not even close to what I expected, but I’m very surprised.

If she's not into perfumes any more than an average girl then sorry to tell you this but buying her a cheap release from a big brand name is probably the best choice if you're on budget. Women are very social creatures who perceive things differently from you. Most of normie ones (in regards to perfume) that I know prefer to wear 'Dior' or 'Chanel' not a particular scent and if you want to go niche there should be an appropriate price tag standing behind it to reassure them that the thing they got is of high status. It's just this way. That being said I made most of my recent gfs in fragheads to some extent and their perception have shifted towards quality of the scent not brand.

He's quite good but obviously missing some grammar (that is notoriously difficult to learn). Overall it makes him admirable to make all of these small mistakes and copy-paste English and German language patterns. He says that he's going to visit his Polish grandma for Christmas this year but his true name is Daniel Średziński. He was born in Germany but both father and mother are Polish from a small town Hrubieszów (dad's dead). Then he talks shit about vegans and how he likes that Poles eat a lot of meat lol.

For some reason I’ve really warmed to Jeremy lately. I don’t know why. I think it’s just the realisation that he’s just a loveable goof in a Chad package. I’m English and only wanted to learn basic Polish so I could be polite when I go there to visit friends and the grammar is fucking ridiculous. The Polish section on Duolingo is very primitive and doesn’t actually “teach” Polish, but kind of tells you things and expects you to notice. For example, words like “Kot” or “Kotem” are essentially the same, but the context in which it’s used is never explained, you just have to hope you notice.

And also I’m learning it to impress Polish women at work. That too.

how would you cope if you lose your sense of smell to covid?
i had covid a couple of weeks ago . the cough and fever was nothing but the week they dispersed my taste and smell was noticeably suppressed. not gone but i could only smell things if i practically put them up my nostrils . i was compulsively sniffing coffee and after shave trying to hold on to it. i used a nasal rinse because i thought i could feel my nostrils burning like the dead virus was still clinging on in there. not sure if it helped. as i said this symptom receded as well. but during that time i essentially grieved for the loss . my grand dad lost his smell and grip in his fingers to medication but he was in his 70s and had a lifetime of experiences to remember. the thought of living 2nd half of my life with diminished experiences was really quite depressing. it occurred to me as well that if this happened to a large enough percentage it would render many fragrance and flavour industries completely useless . it'd be like living as an android who can pull up the wikipedia for any emotion but can't describe how it feels.

Duolingo is just like that with most of languages. That's why I stopped to use it for Italian and instead signed up for a regular Italian classes. At some point you know hundred phrases like 'The red hedgehog likes to swim in jelly' but don't feel like you can have anything but a basic conversation. One can also only guess the grammar while learning with Duolingo. Just keep on grinding tho, I can assure you that even if you know only some basic phrases you'll be welcomed and perceived very warmly. People there really appreciate putting some effort in learning the language.

When I went for the first time last year I only knew the absolute basics like hello, goodbye, thank you, and most importantly “Piwa” and “Na zdrowie”. They seemed to appreciate even that. My friend is Bulgarian but speaks several languages so him and his girlfriend were translating for me in restaurants and at her uncles house where he had a birthday party for himself and his brother. None of the guests spoke anything but absolutely basic English (but still more than my Polish) and it was still great fun. I’m still not sure if one of the stories I was being told was the guy being massively racist but I smiled and nodded politely anyway.

But you’re right about the useless phrases. And the problem is there just aren’t resources for learning Polish because I guess it’s not such a common thing (unless you know of any).

I suppose I didn’t notice how bad the Polish course was until I tried French and noticed how much more “complete” it felt.

It’s been ten minutes and it’s a terrific opening. Slightly sweet, rich, subtly leathery and a very slight floral element with an animalic quality, but not in an unpleasant or funky way. Under My Skin has developed nicely. The funky Castoreum is more prominent but the spices are still hanging around and of the few scents with Castoreum I’ve tried this is the most pleasant and elegant. It’s interesting how it doesn’t feel separate from me. When you spray something like a citrusy or floral fragrance it’s obviously a fragrance. It’s not a human smell. With this it really just feels like it’s how I smell.
