heels and nice (not formal) dresses and skirts. I wear dresses a lot but stick to casual ones. heels still make me feel like a little girl playing dress-up (I'm 20).

I don't go out much anyway (and didn't pre-pandemic) so it feels condescending dressing up to go to the supermarket when 99% of the other women I see will be fat and wearing leggings and t shirts. Absolutely do buy a Sporran, it´s the biggest distinction you can make. With it, it´s almost impossible to mistake a kilt for a skirt.

About the informal options, I actually always go with your second and third option.
I agree with you on button-ups just looking like a half-finished costume in this combination, so sweaters are the go-to.

My favorite outfit with the kilt is just kilt, kneehigh kilt-socks, sneakers or boots, wool sweater...topped of with a dufflecoat and a newsboy cap, all in dark greens, greys and blues.

That being said, you can wear it in every other combination, too, the idea of "looking to feminine" goes away the more confident you get in it. I´ve never had to deal with that, personally, but that´s only because "looking masculine" is the only slightly positive thing that could ever be said about my looks.

as a 6'2 guy in a high temprate part of the world, theres a lot i want to wear that would make me stand out.
i love winter styles, but anything thicker than a tee will make me feel like im bursting into hives.
but the main things i like overlap with feminine styles like skin tight, flowy, or laced items. i just want to look good and tees are getting boring, wont make me a cross dresser if i look good as a guy, but then i must be bi right? thats what people seem to think.
it makes since for guys to wear skirts over girls, guys invented the high-heels, and the only reason guys fashion is so bland is because of industrialization and wanting a trophy wife over looking good themselves.

my style would have to be a variety of south korean streetwear/industral, feminine cabin core, victorian/male equal to lolita fashion, crop tops, layers, and exposed skin.
neutral colors, blacks, or a floral color of some sort are what i gravitate to.
but if i had to wear any of it in 90 degree heat... never mind, ill stick to drawing and appreciting it.

I'm fairly good at tailoring (patternmaking, pad stitching, slashing, handsewn construction) but I feel it'd be too time and money intensive to make a full 17th century wardrobe of staple pieces. I'd like to make quite a few, but I think tunics are more achievable. I've begun on one already in a byzantine style with a square side closing front. I've made a rubber stamp for trim-embellishing purposes. I'm using a lightweight mid blue twill and I'll trim the front in red linen with black stamped floral designs. It'll close with glass beads used as buttons.
