Hipsters are all about irony and detachment. When being a hipster became normalized they had to migrate to a different style for fear of being seen as conforming too much to what is popular.
The irony of this is lost on them because they tend to be too narcissistic to step back and look at themselves or to question their own motives.

Can anybody explain why stretch materials are undesirable?

>> No.15631496

I'm talking about elastane/spandex specifically, which usually accounts for 2-3% of the material in a pair of chinos. It will wear out over time and might not be so breathable, but does such a small amount of it really matter much? And when it does wear down, what does that look like? Do they just stop stretching? Do holes start getting worn in?

Yea, I believe it. I think I want to believe that stretch is fine just so life can be easier. Looking around a mall today I was hard pressed to find a pair of trousers without it. They wear like shit. In 5 years, your clothes will be stretched out and faded and generally look worn and old. Whereas you can still pick up cotton or wool garments from the 50s and wear them, provided they weren't torn or stained.

>> No.15631764

>>15631530
Also, keep in mind that "stretch" is a marketing term, just "performance" or "explorer". Its meant to make you think the clothes are easy to move in or fit better. They aren't. There is zero advantage to it. Its just a marketing ploy to get you buy shit materials.

>> No.15631848

>>15631480
Besides what the anons said already, stretch fabric implies cheap, shitty construction because stretch material allows the manufacturer to make the cut slimmer, which saves fabric. 100% cotton cords have to be wide cut, for example, because the cloth *doesn't* stretch much and will be impossible to move in comfortably if it's too tight. But trying to cut down on fabric is something that, as a maker, you only do if you're either operating on razor-thin margins or are a greedy fuck, and in both cases you'll most likely also be making your shit in some Bangladeshi sweatshop and not giving much of a fuck about the quality of construction. So the whole thing's a big red flag for the garment as a whole.

No, it means one person gives good advice at a higher rate than the other and thus displays more knowledge on categories. Therefore if you see said poster, you can go by the empirical evidence they they are likely to display knowledge on a subject at a high rate. Furthermore, someone could give terrible advice 99% of the time and only once give good advice, so on average, you would be wary of their advice.

>Go ahead and tell me where I'm wrong.

Those are simple statements about me and tell of nothing of nuances in personalty and existence. You think in simple terms. Are you a simple man?

It's like saying to someone "well, I know you're male" but that paints nothing of WHO they actually are.

>obsessed with tripping on /fa/ even though you have never and will never post a fit

Unless you can confirm a picture is of you, this is just absurd and bordering on stupid. Hurr you haven't posted a fit so your point isn't valid but me, an anon, who has not posted a fit either and could be 10 years of age has a more valid point!!

Yep. Just outright fucking stupid.

That's why posters:

>know i am a real person
>not a child
>and can go by the empirical evidence of my previous posts

That trumps your "I'm an anon with zero information of what advice I have previously given" every single time lol.

No, preferably don't take your clothes to the dry cleaner unless it's an absolute necessity, if you wish to keep your clothes clean, hand wash them. With cotton clothing you should be able to wash them in a washing machine.

>> No.15644042

It depends on how traditional we're talking. It's mostly suits, sportcoats, blazers, etc. that NEED to be dry cleaned. Your casual clothes, ocbds, polos, khakis, etc can be machine washed. I would avoid machine washing sweaters, dont wanna shrink them.

A retard queston indeed, don't wash a suit or jacket every week, that's not remotely necessary.

>>15644836
Hyper retarded however, dry cleaning was invented and popularized specifically because it's much easier on the cloth than conventional washing. The solvents used are only bad for plastic-based synthetic fibres, which is just another advantage since it only destroys shit you shouldn't be wearing.

I see it says that L is 41-44" chest and then lists the body width of the garment as 22" (making it 44"). Should I be using the body size or garment size? 41 chest is buried under a 44 garment, no?

This is the same for any garment. The sizing to your actual chest size, the garment is typically larger so that it isn't skin tight.

And no, a 41" chest wont be buried in a 22" width. It just means you will have 3" on gap before the garment is pull tight. Layered over a shirt, probably about 2", which is fine.

A lot, but it's tough to say that I really miss things that were here as opposed to just missing my youth; nostalgia makes clear judgements difficult.

In general I think things were better when everything was just for the lulz. Project chanology was fun/funny but it was also the beginning of the end with 4chan being convinced that it should do things that have some real-world impact.

In general posts were more original and memes were fresher in the past. Most of everything was still shitposts, but I remember things as generally higher in quality, with more thought and more diverse views/fewer normie posts.

But like I said, take that with a grain of salt.

one thing people of my generation have agreed with me on that i wouldnt mind running past you is that theres been a change in mindset on these parts. used to be 4chan was just a bunch of spergs shitposting and sharing porn, but i notice more and more often lately theres a definite note of nastiness on some of the shitposting lately that just wasnt there before, where we were shitposting for shits and giggles, i notice more and more often theres an air of genuine malice behind shitposting, especially on certain topics. does this ring true to you at all?

I think that's probably giving past 4chan a bit too much credit, especially past /b/. We had attempts to dox people back then too, and had various revenge-porn/post-nudes-along-with-facebook-profile threads. Lots of requests to 'hack' people too, hence the 'not your personal army' rule.

That said, I think anons today are more inclined to try to go after other anons than they used to be. Biggest shift there probably happened around when gamergate blew up; prior to then most of the targets of 4chan's ire were usually external.

>> No.15654596

>>15654576
maybe, but i remember people who got particularly nasty were usually mocked for giving enough of a fuck to be emotionally invested over another post on a chinese message board. i think what im trying to say is "in it for the lulz" was more about humerus karmic justice or genuine laughs more than it was about "fuck this guy in particular" or "fuck this group of people". ive hung around a lot of groups that span off from 4chan and ive noticed them getting steadily more and more toxic in the non-meme sense of the word. theres a lot of genuine fucking badness in some of these places, a feeling i do not recognise in similar groups from 10 years ago.

>> No.15654610

>>15654596

got a gal pal who used to browse this board whos around my age, and shes said similar things on these splinter groups. the younger ones just arent like us, theres a noticeable difference in sentiment towards others. i think some of that has to do with the way the internet changed, we grew up on a wild west internet in my day, and these kids grew up on a highly centralised and in a lot of ways much more vapid and polarised internet.
