What's /wt/'s verdict on Casios bluetooth stuff?
Seems like most G-shocks (and some others too) have a bluetooth function so that you can use your watch from you phone and stuff.
Now, that obviously defeats the purpose of a watch, but on the other hand, for some more complicated ones, it seems like a good idea for the initial setup, which just is a bunch of complicated morse code with 4 buttons.
But assuming I'll just use it for the setup, can I switch it off and have it not waste energy?
Also, how accurate are they? Since they're touting bluetooth as a way to sync the time with your phone (which in turn syncs with the network, which in turn (i believe) syncs with "official" time), I'm kinda worried that they're using the lowest binned movements, since it's gonna get reset every day or so, which would suck if you're using it without bluetoth.

you need to look up what water resistance means
50M water resistance doesn't mean you can jump 50M deep in the ocean and your watch will be fine. it means your watch has pressure resistance but that has little to do with waterproofing. generally if something has 50M water resistance, you are taking a huge risk even swimming in it. it's basically saying your watch will survive light rainstorms. if you intend on swimming you want 100M and if you're actually diving, 200M
now you are not going to get an automatic chronometer for that money unless you get very lucky on ebay but you have a lot of choice in solar or meca-quartz.

the world is your oyster
citizen and seiko make cool quartz chronos. citizen's designs tend to have more "attitude" and seiko's are more classic.
undone watches is a brand out of hong kong that makes very nice meca-quartz chronos too, if you want something more indie, their watches have a good degree of quality and are priced very reasonably at around $300 and have a more classic style.
there's also the meme brand dan henry which makes very cool chronographs inspired by watches from different eras but some people bitch because they don't want to see some dude's name on the dial.
I'd check out all four and make your decision.

because people think if a watch says "water resistant 50M" it means they can jump 50M deep in the ocean and it'll be fine. when a watch is tested it's tested at static pressure. the method which water is interacting with the watch is rarely going to be static.
if your watch has 30M water resistance, that is generally understood to mean you can wash your hands with the watch on. if you are on dry land washing your car and you accidentally have the hose on too strong, the water coming out of that hose can exceed the tolerance of the watch and destroy it.
a water resistance of 50M means you can tread water in the watch and float on the surface of the seas for a bit, but it might be taken out by heavy rain or by wearing it in a hot shower.

I think that buying one of those "stella" dials as your first/only nice watch is a bad idea, those are watches for people who already have everything and now are looking for a watch to match their lambo or outfit.
But answering your question, now I think that for you they are impossible to get, they are the brand new toy that everybody wants. But in a year or so, when they become old news, I think one color or two are going to be hard to get, but the others you can easily get. Which ones are going to be hard to get? I think the green(the rolex green/hulk...), the turquoise(le tiffany dial...) and the yellow is very similar to the vintage stella, so a lot of people are after those.
But try your luck.

>Last year, Japan’s largest watchmaker Seiko brought back its legendary “Captain Willard” in the form of its SLA033, which to many fans’ dismay came with a $4,250 USD price tag. Fortunately, the brand issued another re-creation of the iconic timepiece from Apocalypse Now through its Prospex line with the SPB151 and SPB153 which came in green and black, at a more affordable $1,300 USD and 1,100 USD respectively. Now, joining the duo is a new limited-edition blue variation.

>As with the previous two releases, the SPB183 comes in the same 42.7mm stainless steel case, with a sapphire crystal sitting inside a blue bezel protecting the equally blue dial. It’s also powered by the same upgraded automatic caliber 6R35, featuring 24 jewels and 70 hours in power reserve while operating at 3Hz. Of course, as a diver, the solid caseback, screw-down crown, built-in crown guards, and numerous gaskets provide a water-resistance of up to 200 meters and ISO6024 certification.

>Limited to just 5,500 units made, the new Seiko SPB183 will retail for roughly $1,400 USD when it arrives in November.

yeah but they went for the shity VK model which has a subdial dedicated to the world's most useless complication - 24 hour subdial

so fucking useless, it's unreal.

It may depend on the color and size combination.

I copped a new 41 mm with blue dial. I have a pretty big purchase history at that particular department store with their gold card (mostly Omegas) so they called me right when it came out.

I was told however that the new 41 Oyster Perpetuals are totally sold out and they're not even taking wait list names anymore.

Not sure if I'll keep it though since I paid $6000 retail and I'm seeing it on Chrono24 for $9k+. Might flip it.
