What does he smell like /fa/ ?

>> No.15605998

Hey /fa/
Recently I've literally sampled maybe 20 or so colognes. I tried lots of common designer scents and also a few niche ones. I know this is going to sound like a meme, but out of all of them, I really enjoyed Sauvage Dior the most. I just feel like it genuinely blends with my skin the best and suits my personality the most. (Once again please keep in mind I literally compared this scent to 20 other samples I ordered).

What do you guys think about the scent?
Also what are your opinions of Sauvage Dior EDT vs Sauvage Dior EDP? Thanks

I've been sampling Grand Soir and love it, and from what I'm reading it sounds like the two are similar. If it scratches the itch then I just saved 100 quid, if it doesn't then I've just added 25 to the cost of the MFK.

Intense is a synthetic boozy mess that makes my nose hurt. Absolute is a niche quality (very) smoky woody oriental scent.
I went to a local niche perfumery here and tried couple things.
>Vilhelm Parfumerie Morning Chess
It's hilarious that it smells just like a copy of Aventus despite the official notes are: bergamot, leather, galbanum, patchouli, amber. The interesting thing is that you can indeed get the herbal quality of galbanum if you focus enough. Notes are obviously a product of marketing but nevertheless it's fascinating how you can achieve a similar effect using entirely different notes. 2/10
>Kinski Kinski
Have read a lot about the OG version that was supposed to be very gothic and dark but the version that was rereleased under Escentric Molecules brand is just a spicy-woody with some personality created by cannabis note. 5/10
>Aesop Marrakech
A generic warm spicy frag. 3/10
>Eau D'Italie Paestum Rose
Another masterpiece by Bertrand Duchaufour. An incensy, spicy rose that one can easily wear all year round. 9/10

Ambr'di Abrossi, by Abra Al-Ambara is pretty good.

>Legends require no introduction. Since the age of myth, amber from the renowned Ambrossi mines, hidden between the smokey mountains of Cal'ath and the rugged crags of Dithh'tik, has effortlessly captured the the essence of chivalry.
>Legends tell of knights of old slicing at the Delett trees with their swords and anointing their family crest with warm, smooth amber in the name of sweet posterity.
>Legends are reborn. Abra Al-Ambara, creator of L'entente Divine and Gvina, has delicately built around Delett amber, with notes of vanilla, bergamot and cardamom embracing and revering its ancient splendour.

>BREAKDOWN

>A complex top note of Lavendar, aldehydes, black pepper, pink pepper, white pepper, red pepper, mustard, egg whites and pear graciously unfurl to reveal an enticing, warm core: the legendary amber, gallantly flanked by pineapple and milk. This sits upon a sturdy but unpretentious base of sandalwood and mustard.

Really complex and an absolute steal for $13.99. Just make sure you don't go for the Sport flanker, which is 96% Iso E Super. The Intense flanker is good, but the unrefined ambergris has a fishy, oily smell that can take some getting used to. I've actually got a bottle of the Old formulation that I'll happily swap you for an Aerodactyl.

If you want a scent that is highly addictive to the other sex then it's a great choice, it has a mysterious seductive vibe that just works, for some reason i can't understand it gets called boring and simple by many pseudointelectual copelets who tend to consider knowing obscure fragrances a positive personality trait but it's definitely a great one, still, testing it on a department store first is recommended, you should spray it on a tester strip and leave it somewhere in your room so that you notice this lingering scent that everyone keeps spamming about it which is where the magic happens

What Victor writes really resonates with me with masculine fragrances that appeal to the common denominator:
>I wasn’t interested in perfumes back then, and I thought Fahrenheit was over the top manly for me. I rarely used it, and when I put some on and looked at the mirror, I thought I was James Bond, except that this James Bond had a 42 inch waistline. The famous gasoline top note that never goes away makes think that I am constantly fighting a villain near a giant airplane propeller or some heavy machinery. It smells dangerous, relentless, mature, dapper, athletic, everything at the same time, and that definitely doesn’t represent me, because I like cats, give up on things quite easily, care little about fashion, and can’t climb down a ladder.

These overly machismo scents like Sauvage and their ilk just doesn't represent who I am. I am at peace that I'm ugly, overweight, like cats, give up on things quite easily, care little about fashion, and definitely not athletic. This is why I hate Sauvage with a passion and I hate every single person who wears Sauvage or where Sauvage accurately represents them. Fuck them.

Start socializing and become comfortable being around people, even if it feels fake and forced at first you will get better at it just like with all other leaned skills.
Try talking to more women and doing cold approaches, if you have anxiety then you could use phenibut or kratom to take off the edge and help out a bit.

Date, though... Date is an abortion. It’s got kind of a similar thing going to Office, but then dumps a bunch of sickly-sweet fruit on top of it. There’s no sophistication or nuance to it at all, it smells like funky Juicy Fruit gum. Not a good frag.

In other frag news, I've met a girl who wants to be a perfumer and wrote her BS and Masters theses on conceptual perfume making in a cafe I go to to work these days. Had a nice chat with her about frag making and other topics. Her favorite house is DS Durga (I laughed at that as for me it's a Le Labo-tier) but her fav fragrances are the silver CdG 2 by Buxton and Serge Lutens Iris Sulver Mist that I like as well. Funny to finally meet someone irl who knows shit about frags.

Yes, its worth trying but keep in mind that Oud Palao is perhaps the most 'natural' smelling oud based fragance on the designer market. And by natural I mean recreating the barnyardish qualities the oud naturally possess. Perhaps you'd be interested in Black Aoud? Montale uses exactly the same synthetic oud base as Tom Ford in Oud Wood provided by Firmenich. They develop in other directions though. Black Aoud is a rose bomb and TFOW is exploring woodiness by adding rosewood and dark sandalwood to the oud.

L'Orpheline for me but hit me with church incense recs please. I've tried a bunch, I've tried Avignon and Cardinal and like Cardinal isn't dark enough and I hate the vanilla in Avignon. Then Zagorsk has terrible performance.

Berry might be hard to track down. Try La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy, it's absolutely stunning but sadly I get only 2-3h of performance out of it on my skin. Incense by Norma Kamali is death in a bottle. Atelier Flou Monsieur mon Amour is a citrusy warm weather (!) oilbanum. Bright, zesty and fresh. Olibanum by Profumum Roma is another fresh incense albeit way less suited for warm weather than Monsieur mon Amour. For sure you know Robert Piguet Casbah as it is the reference dry, bitter green churchy incense. If you'd like to give another chance to a sweet (in drydown) incense then Giorgio Armani Prive Bois d'Encens is quite solid. Montale Full Incense is also the obvious replacement for Avignon.

Another recommendation that idk how could I forget: Prissana Ma Nishtana it's not very church like but it is the best smoky fragrance I've ever tried. I'm angling for getting a bottle of it for this Autumn/Winter season. Must make up my mind if I want it or Tauer ACDD - I sold most of my bottles and try to do not have more than 10 at one time. Personal preference that makes me feel better and not like a hoarder. However, I think I will get Prissana out of these two. Will see after I finish my sample of ACDD.
Also a thought: I remember when I was starting with getting into niche some time ago and got a sample of Avignon from a local niche shop. I was blown away how austere and challenging it was for me. Now I'm on the same page with you that it's actually quite mellow. I used to perceive it as a huge incense bomb that overwhelmed my nose. Now all of sweet and fresh aspects are quite clear to me. Funny to revisit fragrances after some time to see how one's nose develops in picking up subtleties.

As I said, I just did and it was not the first time (although the first time with Berry). I'm quite aware of how fragrances are perceived by others though and wouldn't wear it to a meeting or a casual night out but it's perfect for working remotely in a cafe with a bit artsy profile. We had this chat already but compliments are rarely given just because of a fragrance but rather your entire persona and the vibe you're giving off.

Cool thanks. I wanted Casbah but I'm confused by supposed reformulations apparently completely ruining it. I keep forgetting to try the Giorgio Armani and I always walk past their Prive line. I'll have to look the rest up and see what I can track down in australia. Yeah Avignon was woah until I got my hands on that Heeley and some incensy L'artisans.

>I wanted Casbah but I'm confused by supposed reformulations apparently completely ruining it
My usual advice is: why should you care? If you will end up liking the scent - great, enjoy it. If not - don't hunt vintages for premium, there are hundred other fragrances that you might end up liking even more and are still in production. I reckon 90% of the tears over reformulations are stemming from the 'ah, the old good stuff' mindset and romanticizing the fact that they discovered the fragrance when it was less popular. I went through all of this with Chypre Palatin and realized that frankly I don't give a fuck - the bottle I got from Claude was still absolutely amazing and I ended up loving it.

Got finally my free samples of Mechant Loup and Passage d'Enfer. Sprayed the latter after the gym and I must say that I'm impressed. However it's not as incensy as I expected it to be. It's almost a lily soliflore to my nose/on my skin. It's also not very abstract - I picked up separate notes of lily, incense and wood almost immediately but they definitely work very well together. These are 3 out of 4 - I don't get a lot of musk yet (about 2h in). Very snice stuff but it's definitely unisex and I will give my sample to finish to my gf - she was looking for some incense frags recently. Looking forward testing Mechant Loup.

The girl that wants to become a perfumer that I talked to told me that one of the chapters of a thesis she wrote was about ingredients that influence psyche. We were talking about a study looking into how does hedione affects women/men, so I reckon there should be something about musk. However it's for sure not anything like people talking about pheromones want make them out to be.

This is what I wanted Creed Viking to smell like. It smells expensive from the first sniff. It's woodsy, spicy and refreshing. Very, very well balanced fragrance that you can wear all year round. It's quite safe on one hand and very sophisticated and unique on the other. I totally understand why LT gave it 5/5 stars. If you want just one power fragrance and don't bother with anything else this might be it. I found a good deal on 50/120ml full bottle on one of fb groups and going to buy it this weekend.
