Okay you've changed my mind. I think it is just as legitimate to pair fragrances with books. But maybe it works best if it is a character(s) in the novel who you imagine would be wearing the fragrance. I feel like that would be better. I can get behind it if the scent is like the ambient fragrance. I feel like most scents are designed to be "perfumes", but I can imagine some scents designed to invoke a location more than actually reflecting on being a perfume.

>The bergamot and orange are the radiant ornaments, delicately intertwined with the herbal whisper of green herbs. It is as if a branch of rosemary got caught in the fruit basket, its piney scent adding a rejuvenating element. The sensual touch of musk is an interesting element, considering the essentially “straight out of the shower clean” aura of the composition. However, there is something ethereal and alluring about the fragrance that makes me want to lean in and inhale the scent emanating from the skin.

>The elegant drydown is reminiscent of the bittersweet peach stone, which alternates between milky green almond and lusciously sweet nut. A mere hint of confectioner’s sugar scented with vanilla foils the understated musk of the base. If I am to imagine a fragrance Napoleon would like on Joséphine (a woman of whom he said in his letters, “I must see her and press her to my heart. I love her to the point of madness, and I cannot continue to be separated from her. If she no longer loved me, I would have nothing left to do on earth”), Cologne Blanche would be it, fitting Napoleon’s fastidious cleanliness as well as Josephine’s predilections for exotic musks.

>More commercial perfumes tend to try and be something to everyone. Compared with Bois D’Argent, Dior Homme, a popular men’s fragrance and very similar to Bois D’Argent’s design, can appeal to a wider audience with well-defined notes of vanilla, iris, leather and musk. It has something for everyone. Bois D’Argent provides a much narrower field of vision. Iris and musk compliment the main vanilla accord instead of working independently to create a more one dimensional fragrance than that of multi-faceted Dior Homme. Birch gives the fragrance a subtle woody/leather character but the overall theme is baby powder, milk and honey. Other perfume notes include blanched almond and a transparent vanilla that is perhaps synthetic showing no signs of the scented impurities than can coexist within natural vanilla absolute. This is a linear scent leaving you at the end of a day smelling of white musky vanilla.

>Named for the chic Saint-Germain-des-Prés of Paris’ Left Bank 6th Arrondissement (Slimane’s favourite part of Paris), Saint-Germain Des-Prés is as elegant as the boutiques and cafés that line its namesake’s streets. The green woodiness of petitgrain is the star here and paired with the sweet brightness of neroli cuts the density of the supporting vanillin-heliotrope accord. >One of the standouts for me, Dans Paris is about as sophisticated as modern perfumery gets. This is very much a vanilla fragrance, but one no less layered nor nuanced than the mille-feuilles you might find in Paris’ finest pâtisseries. Layered with the decadent vanilla, bergamot lends brightness to the opening, coriander seeds a fresh green spiciness, and laurel blossom a powdery almost caramelised honey character. This morning‘s Malle sample was Geranium Pour Monsieur. A very pleasant scent that wasn’t as floral as the name suggested, the mint made for a very refreshing opening, and the woods and musk kept it very grounded and more dense. It wasn’t as light and airy as I expected. Reasonable longevity, but I’m assuming two sprays from the sample isn’t enough because none of them have lasted or projected much.

Right now I have French Lover on and I’m very impressed. I don’t know what Angelica smells like, but I can definitely detect the vetiver, cedar and spices. It reminds me of something like a less sweet, less rich Royal Oud.

How'd I figure out a fragrance for my activities and personality ? I've been reading into them for a while but still not familiar on terms e.g c note, silage, oud etc.

I'd say personality wise:
-Reserved
-People have said i'm disciplined
-Kinda serious
-But relaxed when necessary
-Funny
-Polite
-Tenacious

Activities:
-Pre med
-MMA
-Boxing
-BJJ
-Running
-Sports

Something to wear at an internship would be good and another recommendation for casual.

Personality:
- Easygoing and chill
- Motivated
- Flirty
- Makes shitty goes most of the time

Activities:
- Doing a PhD in Neuroscience.
- Gym
- Usually I grab some drinks after work or in the weekend.

Physique:
- 1,8m
- 85kg
- Dark eyes
- Black hair
- Short beard
- Usually dressed either casual shirts in white sneakers and normal jeans, khaki pants with shirts or floral short-sleeved shirts like a fucking drug-dealer wanna-be (not that /fa/ i know).

as you know nothing on eBay is legitimate (never has been) and it should be avoided like the plague
the last decant I got from eBay was filled with piss and eBay refused to refund my money, terrible
the best place to look for decants would be trustworthy Indian or Pakistani swappers in Facebook groups from what I've experienced
they'll charge around 7x the price per ml of whatever the bottle is but it's definitely worth it considering you're getting quality juice decanted in a sanitary way and not urine
sometimes they don't ship their stuff with enough bubble wrap or they don't tape things down so your stuff may leak or crack during shipping
but it's really just the price of doing business and you shouldn't let that discourage you
most of the people that make good decants do a lot of them so just look for someone that's trusted with a good reputation
when you think about it, it would be pretty convenient if eBay had a system like that where you could look at a sellers feedback to see whether or not they sold legitimate stuff, but I digress

Is this some multi-level trolling? In UK fragrance groups it's considered rude and against rules to sell decants at more what you paid for the full bottle per ml. You often even beat the official full bottle prices per ml because people decant their bottles that they got on some discounter websites or sales. Can't imagine paying 7x more.

I only say this because I get a similarity between this and Burning Ben, and the only notes in common are Castoreum and Labdanum, and I assume labdanum isn’t dirty. It’s rich, slightly sweet, verging on sickly, and I can’t wait to see how it develops.

Not sure what it is but a lot of the Tom Ford fragrances were a miss for me:

-Tobacco Vanille, many people said it smelled nice, I thought it smelled like vanilla tea, I could see myself enjoying it later down the line but right now, not too much.

- Tuscan Leather good but had an old vibe smell. Points to drake though it does smell a little like a brick.

-Black Orchid, bit like liquorice, not my thing.

-Oud wood, same issue as Tuscan Leather, smells nice, but has that old smell to it.

-For men I actually liked, but then read that is was TFs first fragrance and was designed to be popular with most people. Less expensive and quite good.

-Neroli Portofino, really enjoyed this one, price is the only thing that stopped me from copping it.

Maybe my nose isn’t refined to it yet, I checked out two Yves Saint Laurent fragrances (Y and L’Homme) both were great and I might buy one of them.

When I first smelt Oud Wood I adored it and still do. Tuscan Leather and Tobacco Vanille I didn’t like, I’d never put my nose to anything like it and I thought there’s no way anybody could wear them. But I continued with my samples and now I own full bottles. I adore them more than most fragrances. I get why they’re not for everybody but I do think they deserve more than a quick test.

new chanel exclusif coming out soon.

A tribute to the significance of the lion for CHANEL, perfumer Oliver Polge has promised of Le Lion a perfume that captures the courage, grace and strength not of the animal, but the virtues it came to represent for Gabrielle. “I was much more interested in the emblematic CHANEL lion than the animal,” says Polge, who has rendered this CHANEL lion as an oriental, the archetype olfactory family of power perfumes. Not a roaring beast though, Le Lion is a lion tamed in typical CHANEL fashion to reveal an elegant intensity and sophisticated presence, all with nod to the maison’s perfume heritage.

True to Polge’s word, Le Lion de CHANEL is an oriental fragrance – though not an oriental like CHANEL has done before. Whereas Coco and Coromandel, CHANEL’s other notable orientals, fall into the spicy and woody oriental categories respectively, Le Lion is very much an amber oriental. In this, Le Lion is a first for CHANEL. Forgoing the more typical piquant spices and rich woods, Le Lion’s composition is characterised instead by radiant resins and animalic accords atop which Polge has assembled a symphonic oriental that feels at once new for CHANEL, but also very much in keeping with its perfume lineage.

Montblanc Legend smells similar...but maybe too similar and could be mistaken as Fierce
Sauvage is said to be a mix of Bleu de Chanel and Fierce.

>Dior crew went with a copy of the most successful male Chanel frag lately, 'Bleu de Chanel' (2010) by Jacques Polge.
>Let's just say half 'Bleu', the other half is taken from 'Fierce' (Abercrombie & Fitch, 2002) by Christophe Laudamiel and Bruno Jovanovic.
>'Sauvage' is a woody-aromatic fougère and starts out pretty 'Bleu'-dihydromyrcenolic, hesperidic and minty. Compared with 'Blue' and 'Cool Water', 'Sauvage' is the least lavendulic of the lot, and the most minty-marine. That way the top can even be smelled as citation from Daniela Andrier's 'Luna Rossa' (Prada, 2012), enhancing the petitgrain side of the fougèrey start. 'Calone 1951' is clearly discernible with its watermelon character in the top of 'Sauvage', while the rest of the top is pretty much bergamot galore with just a slight peppery contrast to integrate the agrestic aspects around rosemary.
>The rosemary and pepper do lead over to the 'Fierce' heart of 'Sauvage', which thus is less fruity than that of 'Blue', the apple aspects of which are missing, but of course it means also Iso E Super en masse and then a dry violet leaf theme. As in 'Fierce' this segues seamlessly into a pronounced moss of tree note, not as nice as in 'Legend' (Montblanc, 2011), but smoother than in 'Fierce'. This is where in 'Sauvage' a leather accord joins in, so that they could later do a leather version, and then 'Sauvage' dries down ambery-musky, with Ambroxan, and a musk fond that sadly is quite soapy and cheap smelling.
>While the amber in 'Sauvage' might be nicer, the noble musk accord of 'Bleu de Chanel' around Nirvanolide and Muscenone clearly exceeds that of 'Sauvage' by far.

When I smell a fragrance, I never get hung up on if a note I smell isn’t listed; I smell iris in French Lover, cacao in Heritage, vetiver in Spice and Wood, and a musty old bookshop note from Patchouli Nobile. I don’t make a habit of always checking listed notes before I post. I’ll usually just go by my own nose unless I have a cold.

We can drink coffee or wine and no one bats an eyelid if someone says they taste raspberrys or get an aroma of peaches. It’s just coffee beans or grapes for the most part but mention you smell something in a perfume beyond the official company marketed notes or the ‘fragrantica’ note pyramid and people will go out of their way to point out they don’t smell it.

Is there an authority I wasn’t told about that has proclaimed we are not allowed to smell certain notes if they are not listed?

I smell what I smell, not what someone else tells me I should.

You mean Allure?
If yes, you should smell them both if you can, to see if they're similar to you, but I'd choose Allure over AdG any day

yeah Allure homme sport, both have high ratings and I just want stuff to wear on dates, casual outings that smells good, gets attention and isnt too smelly
