The outermost pins are too tight to remove, and that combined with my skeleton wrists means I can't quite wear it yet, not without looking like a doofus.

I don't know about citizen, but with seiko that's not necessarily true. The only Seiko's that are 100% made on the actual japanese islands is grand seiko, with the high end regular seiko shit ($2k+) being either actually wholly or partially made there too, jury's out in this case. More likely than not the latter is actually made there.
But the <$1000 stuff, or the cheap skx007 divers that say "made in japan"? No, but technically yes. They're made on what the japanese government deems japanese territory for the purposes of country of origin labels even if it's not actually anywhere near japan.
Casio recently opened another factory in japan so those expensive MR.G and MT-G shocks are made their, either partially or wholly (I'm not sure about the circuit boards etc)

the most accurate watch movement in the world is a quartz movement in the Citizen Caliber. the titanium lists for $7,400 US and the white gold is several times that. it is a beautiful watch and I'd love to have one. that ought to set the outside limit on what the best quartz should cost, but this is a very unique watch; for anything else, I'd reckon the limit ought to be like maybe half that.
me personally? I'm a poorfag. I already have a quartz daily beater that I love and it only cost like $30. I might pay over $100 for one of the nice vintage seiko hi-beats, but I'm realistically never going to pay more than several hundred for any watch.

Nothing stops moving when you pull out the crown on a non hacking watch. If you wind them up, they just run until they're out, like a pendulum clock or anything similar. You pull out the crown so that you can move the hands, but it doesn't stop them, at least not the seconds hand.
