/sprezzatura/ - Mediterranean and Menswear General
This thread is for the well dressed man and those seeking to improve their dress by exploring colors, patterns, textures and other styles while appearing more mature, elegant and refined.
>What is “sprezzatura”?
Required viewing: https://youtu.be/_QG4lTMjWtY
Required reading: https://parisiangentleman.co.uk/2017/02/24/how-obsession-with-sprezzatura-can-kill-the-sprezzatura/
>Do I have to be European to wear this style?
Absolutely not. Anyone can wear this as long as they are confident and don’t care what people think. You should be dressing for yourself, not for others. Is this style more common in Italy and other Mediterranean countries? Absolutely. But you could wear this wherever you are.
>How is this different than Trad/Ivy/Prep?
Whereas the /TIP/ threads favor classic styles and tailoring, wider fits and more drape, Mediterranean and modern menswear favors slimmer cuts, tailored closer to the body to accentuate and flatter your body. Slim fit is allowed and in many cases encouraged.
>Where should I start?
Start with sport coats and mix and match with trousers. Experiment with colors and patterns. Don’t be afraid of color. This isn’t business style, where bland conformity is the norm. We want to be colorful, and experiment with fabrics. Wear linen, wool, cotton, anything you want.

They don't clash because they're at different scales and contrast differences. The match there is good.

The belt is too vibrant for the jacket, it cuts you in half and stands out completely.

Shoes are much better color, but the style is too casual to balance with the jacket. Swapping to dressier shoes with a darker belt would go a long way to make the fit better.

The trick was in the last 10 years was to never wash their stuff. Recently they started to carry thicker materials which whitstand machine washing.
Like for a decade their shiny dress shirts looked like garbage immediately after the first wash cycle. (their chinos were also garbage, the raw jeans lost half of their color but atleast they developed custom patterns fast)
I think during manufacturing they died their cheap materials in some kind of shiny wax/grease to make them look better which disappeared after the first wash cycle.

The tailor usually folds the fabric in half and draws the pattern on one side. Next he traces the chalk lines with threads in a looping stitch (tailor tacks), this creating two identical pieces. Upon separating the two pieces you cut the loops in the middle, creating these threads that stick out. Here it seems to be a visual aid for the crease line, so that he can check that it sits centrally, is not warped, etc.

Here's my biggest issues with your fit
Your coat is too short, it's in this awful no-man's-land between jacket and coat which just doesn't look good. The lapels and collar are also a bit slim.
Your belt stands out too much and clashes with basically everything.
The top half and bottom half of your outfit are too far apart in terms of casual/formal. Try different shoes and again different belt.
Your jeans are a bit slim which makes your boots look a bit big in a goofy way, slim pants also never look good with coats because of the width difference.

All clothes are peacocking whether we admit it or not. You don't always need one, but sometimes it can be a useful accessory. Just treat it like you would a small pocket square. Both serve to add an extra dash of colour. In this case I'm using it to dress down the very formal charcoal jacket.

Marketing, anon. Women have thousands of years of evolution to respond to specific visual stimuli. Learn every social media bullshit angle trick and avoid all of the common pitfalls.

Learn what women like about you and emphasize those characteristics. Also learn how to position yourself into some kind of niche you can monopolize. If you've got stoner-sexy long hair, tattoos, and wear flannel you're going to be targeting very different girls to a jacked clean cut classic alpha, and your profile should reflect that.

But fuck doing any of this. You should have better shit to do as a man than waste time chasing pussy, and nothing is more attractive than a man with an unyielding drive to achieve his goals.

Earn the respect of your fellow men and the women will follow in the thousands.

Good conditioner has compounds that rejuvenate and refresh leather, particularly mink oil. You can see the mink at the bottom of the blue box. they essentially emulate the natural oils that animals secrete to keep their skin from drying out.
Don't over-condition. You will know when they need it, leather tends to look rather dry, dusty and thirsty. Depends on wear and climate of course but I typically condition twice a year.

>> No.15512821

The goal of menswear is to build up the figure. This means making you look taller. When the contrast is too high between the belt and the rest it chops you, so go for more close matches to either the shirt or the belt. Easiest low effort fix is to skip the belt. If your trousers fit you don’t need it. I don’t wear sneakers, but canvas with an accent colour is good. Doesn’t have to match in that case.

I understand what you're saying but personally I like the line belts draw exactly because it draws attention away from the lack of continuity between pants and shirts. Even with a black suit and belt you have the buckle drawing attention.
It's like a watch. Faggots say a watch shouldn't be visible under a suit but I say fuck them, I would wear the Chronometre Blue loose just so it would always slide out and be visible.
Not that I will ever wear a suit or own a Journe.

Also why the fuck make the rule the belt has to match your shoes if matching the pants or shirt would allow to respect the contrast rule? Seems retarded.

This is why belts in general suck. There's no good answer to your questions without skipping them to begin with. In your black suit example it's still not cutting you in half. Most of the time with a proper rise and correct proportions you'd never see the buckle anyway as it's going to be part of the triangle of death.

Watches are different because they visually add a break on the cuff. Not that you should see anything but the faintest hint of them.

>but I chose to leave them like that because it's more comfortable

That's the argument for a lot of things, comfort vs fit. You either lose a bit of the comfort for the fit and looking better or you lose the look for the comfort.

It can make the wrist area look larger than the shoulder/top of the arms and hence leaves it a bit unbalanced.

>When I bought the pants I was skinnier, I put on some muscles again lately, I like pants with more room.

Fair, speaking of comfort, they do not look comfy being tight. Wider more loose fit pants will again balance out the shoes imo.

There were like 3 people at work that day and I believe none of them got to see my arms. I'll make a sacrifice when it's meaningful. There's also an observation to make, though, being comfortable raises confidence as much as looking good.

The hips are extremely comfortable, they are by far the most comfortable pants I've ever owned in my life when it comes to legs-hips/waist ratio. A size more would be better know, I believe. Too bad they have shit pockets, can't even put a phone in while riding the bike.

Then just roll them up for a photo here and then put them back down lol.

Yes, I feel awkward being uncomfortable in clothes. I guess the tricks is to find more peaces that can be worn in the way that makes them look best and be comfortable. As if the case for linen in your situation, I would assume.

I actually prefer tapered legs rather than straight all the way to the bottom, room at the hips but more fitting around the ankles but that's mainly so more shoe shows when having feet on the smaller size. Again it's about balance for me.

You posted sunglasses anon. How are we supposed to know you're talking about eyeglasses?

Either way, the exact same thing applies: Your face is oval shaped with a squared jaw. This is an ideal face shape, and you do not want to break up the lines of that in any way. The glasses you want suck because:
- By moving the edges to the top they mess up the proportions of your face. It makes your jaw look longer. This is why it sort of works on >>15519618 because he has a shorter face than pitt. Pic related shows a proper glasses fit and how they sit on the vertical centerline for this guy.
- They mess with the sides of your face. They take what is currently a very aesthetic flat line and minimize the cheekbones by bending the straight side edges of your face outwards. This is the same reason sideburns wouldn't work on you. You do not want to compromise that line and the glasses do exactly that.

For eyeglasses, try small round metal frames.

Lovely to see more fits posted. Nice jacket.

Good parts:
>nice jacket fabric
>nice tie
>congratulations on not wearing a button down.

Tips:
> use a four in hand or oriental knot with a knit tie. They're really thick so you have to go with a tiny knot. Also don't be afraid of pulling it very tight as the fabric has a lot of stretch/play. It'll look way more proportionate if you do that.

>3roll2 is cool, but you need to get that lapel rolled considerably lower. The buttoning point is too high at the moment still. You can do this with some hand massaging while you watch something.

>overall the jacket is a bit too big there, even for a trad drapey fit. If alterations are on the table, getting those sleeves tightened up and some waist suppression would be good. Just make sure it's worth the cost of saving it given the slightly too big shoulders.

The jacket is a real zombie, actually. It was made from a coat that turned out too small and some scrap fabric from the same batch that the coat was made of.
Some details:
>Pocket flaps were already in place from the coat
>No welt pocket
>Jacket cuffs without any buttons whatsoever
>No front or side darts, the side attaches directly to the back, this causes the boxy fit
>Central vent
>Half lined
The higher gorge was actually an experiment

>3roll2
The jacket is not designed to hide the third button, so the better option is to just button it then and leave the last button undone? The lapel is stitched so that the roll begins just above the top button, so the canvas should return back to this position.

Doing some waist suppression by adding a dart should be doable, but does it not mess with the fabric pattern?
Regarding the sleeve tightness, do you mean the shoulder width? The sleeves have about 4 or 5cm play at the upper arm.

>keep your stuff in your jacket, not your trouser pockets.
Noted, also I'll try out those other tie knots.

Yes, it's homemade. Originally I did a coat and it had just been lying around unfinished for a little over 7 years and I had a commercial pattern that I used for another jacket. Here I wanted to create a coat-like jacket, hence longer sleeves and three buttons with higher lapels.
It strikes me as really odd that the sleeves and hem line up: The other jacket turned out too short, sleeves reach slightly over the wrist, the quarters end at the knuckle of my thumb.
So for this jacket I kept the sleeve length but added 6cm to the hem, so it should be noticeably longer.
Anyway, the commercial pattern for various reasons is not the way to go, so I got me instructions how to construct the pattern from actual measurements and studied how to apply the proper hand sewing techniques.

It is certainly fun doing this, but until you master the skill you end up with lots of not quite right looking clothes. The hard part is forgetting about every spot that is not quite like you imagined it to be.

This is an amateur project at making a pair of trousers. Never tried this pattern before, so I may horribly fail at this, but I am not a complete newbie at it. I won't dive too deep into the matter, just outline the general steps. Anything too detailed does not make sense, there are easy to follow tutorials online.
First step was taking the measurements and drafting the pattern, which took about two hours. The pattern is actually easy if you understand how to construct it, so in the future it should take me less time to do so. A real tailor will usually draft the pattern directly on the fabric, because each client is different and over time their bodies change anyway, so it is easier to always do a new pattern.
Next was cutting the fabric. No surprises here, I just fold it in half and copy the pattern, then pin it along the lines and cut it. The pattern already includes the seam allowances and I added some extra length to the leg so that I can make a cuff later if I want to. The horizontal markings are a sewing aid, they should meet when stitching the parts together.

Time spent:
2h - measuring and pattern drafting
1h - ironing and cutting the main fabric

I am immeasurably interested in this project. What material is that? Did you try this on shitty fabric first? How are you doing the stitching? What tools do you need? How are you doing the waistband?

>What material is that? Did you try this on shitty fabric first?
This actually is the shitty fabric, it is 97% cotton and 3% spandex/elastan from a general store, they have those leftovers that are usually reduced and I was extremely lucky to find this piece of 1.2m and another piece of 2m for a matching jacket.
The pocket and jacket lining is cotton or viscose, I actually forgot that, and the sleeves and front of the leg get a polyester lining.
I am fairly confident that the pattern will work for me, as I compared the dimensions to fitting trousers. The fly and back seam are a critical area, I am not sure whether I got the lines entirely correct.
>How are you doing the stitching?
There will be lots of hand stitching, it mainly serves holding the fabric in place before I run a machine stitch on the side. I can take some more pictures of how I do this, if you are interested.
>What tools do you need?
Measuring tape, set square and ruler, chalk (you don't need tailor's chalk, regular one from an art store is OK, but you need to sharpen it yourself to get a finer line), scissors.
Needle, thread, obviously. Sewing machine is nice to have, but you could do everything by hand if you wanted to.
>How are you doing the waistband?
At the bottom of the photo there is still some fabric left. So far I just cut it off in a line and I'll make the waistband from it. It will be about 3cm wide with belt loops and an inlay for durability.

After cutting the large parts I cut plackets for the pockets and fly and kept a long strip for the belt loops. Just tell me if you need more details.

The plan for tomorrow is to cut the fabric for the pockets and the lining.

Please keep us updated, this is most interesting!

On an entirely different note: Is anybody else frustrated by lower end brands (Massimo Dutti, Boggi...) having fake surgeons cuffs? I personally don’t mind non functioning buttons, but I would just feel like a fraud wearing these abominations. Pic related. One button is under the fabric where a hole should be. This suit is originally 700* euros.

Hahaha wtf. Someone predicted to me that companies are going to do this because people like to show off their working surgeon cuffs by undoing the last button.
For this amount of money they could just add real cuffs, this is laughable.
Can someone create a new thread?
