It was cool when it wasn't the norm and more people had to wear suits. When Ian Fleming first wrote james bond it was set during a time when men were expected to wear suits whenever he wasn't involved in manual labour or swimming. James bond wearing a tool watch with a suit was basically saying "I have to wear a suit, but i also have to be ready for action anytime." It's a small hint to the dangerous side of his job. It caught on because people that this was cool and bond is a style icon. Now it's just accepted although I dont personally like the look.

Yeah I've noticed at past family gatherings that it's mainly the old/elderly who take notice of what watch you're wearing since watches were actually a thing for a significant portion of their lives.
This funeral is will be fairly elderly oriented so it's surely best to play it safe. If I tried to pull some kind of watch memorial stunt they probably wouldn't get it.

And the day before the funeral when you go to see the family of the dead person, you can go with any clothes, nobody is gonna say you anything, you can go even full slav with an adidas tracksuit and the family will be happy because you are there on that hard moment for them, they are thinking about someone who died, not about fashion.

Watched this video, other in which he bough 150k $ in watches for his employees, and other video in which he surprised his cameraman(who is the dude who runs his channel) with a watch and he allowed him to chose the watch with ''no cost limit'', he was even looking at pateks and the rich guy was happy, the cameraman entered at the store with a G shock and left the room with a shiny Panerai.

They are reading Hodinkee to buy Hodinkee-curated "collector's pieces" Hodinkee hooked in a bunch of new money folks who lacked deeper knowledge about horology and couldn't/wouldn't afford the time and the research it takes to get familiar with the vintage market. Despite providing little to none original research and offering vintage pieces in questionable condition/authenticity they've managed to manufacture a new generation of badly educated but affluent collectors to whom they can sell pretty much everything they want to.
>You're still in your 30's, you make big money and have no obligations, you've already bought some ovepriced vintage Rolexes/Universals from us in the past, our market research shows that you purchase, on average, three watches per year with an average value of $7,000 or higher, so you can easily afford to spend the third of your monthly wage on this travel clock. You can display it in your office, it'll be sure to impress all the other Hodinkee readers in your work/social circle and with time it might turn into a collector's piece. (It won't.)

>Each hourglass is hand blown from one single piece of crystallized jewish tears from the victims of Auschwitz, in Basel, of all places. Filling each piece is not sand, but rather a incredible amount of tiny nanoballs each coated in jewish ashes. To be more specific, each hourglass contains 6 million nanoballs. When the glass is turned from one side to the other, the nanoballs fall to the ground and create total chaos in the bottom chamber of the hourglass. These balls quetch and oy vey around in a frenzied way, but within the most serene of Newson designs, you hardly notice.

hodinkee usually collaborates with big brands. these I can see the appeal for. but this is "hodinkee" branded, which has no reputation.
the supreme brick is also different because supreme is a whole brand on its own where the logo means everything.
if hodinkee had partnered with fucking hamilton or something then I could see this making more sense. but they didn't. it's their own product which has no value at all.

Imagine posting on a fashion board and not understanding the central thesis of luxury branding.

The whole point is that you can blow five figures on something stupid. Nobody who has a Rolex doesn't know that a $12 Casio actually keeps better time. It's a status symbol, as in "I am better than you". That one moment of recognition is not one moment. You see that stupidly expensive item once and then you remember forever that that person is better than you. And I say better than you because your brain has a very rough, primordial way of keeping track of your status compared to others. That pathway is mediated by serotonin, and it's why we get SSRI's as antidepressants. Your status is maybe the #1 indicator of your overall happiness, and it's why the ultra-wealthy are absolutely addicted to dickwaving with eachother with expensive shit.

ie they are so rich they are beyond caring. Objects no longer hold monetary value (since they can just buy anything they want) Objects become mere trinkets. To them purchasing a patek is the same as casio, they hold the same weight. The price tag disappears in their brain.

so its only people who are "slightly rich but not that rich" who still focus on money as if it is something to be concerned or even to be thought about.

so yes, hes calling you a poorfag.

There was also a second (TAG) Heuer diver in the same movie, similar model but in regular stainless instead of black PVD, and it's probably a better one to look for since it's a more common model so it'll be cheaper and they've held up much better over time, the PVD coating on the Night Diver wasn't very durable in those days and you'll be hard pressed to find one that doesn't look like shit.

It's not quite that clear-cut, '87 release means filming in '86 or even '85 and a year or two of pre-production before that. It also took a while for TAG to switch production over to the new logo and there would've been plenty of Heuer-branded watches on store shelves for a few years after the buyout.

My bet is that there was a product placement deal with Heuer, which was then cancelled after the TAG buyout, but it was already too late to change the watches in the movie or find another product placement partner and that's why TLD, unlike every other Bond movie, seems to go out of its way to NOT show the watches very clearly.

Real rich people tend to be more low key and frugal than you'd expect, especially for everyday shit they're not passionate about, and Costco has good quality stuff at reasonable prices. I work in the high-end automotive business and you'd be shocked at how often I'll see a guy with a multimillion dollar classic car, a 100k+ Patek or AP or whatever on the wrist, and a $30 shirt or pair of pants from Costco that I recognize because I have the same thing in my closet. I also know a guy who's worth somewhere upwards of 500 mil who lives in a $10M+ and spent probably another mil getting it professionally decorated, wears Pateks, has $40,000 a year season tickets for the local baseball team, but drives a 15 year old Prius, eats at normal restaurants, and does most of his shopping at Costco.

There are some upscale grocery store chains, Bristol Farms is an example in the LA area. More typically, though, rich neighborhoods will have supermarkets that are part of the usual chains (around here that's Ralphs and Vons, Kroger and Safeway's local brands respectively) but the decor and selection will be better than ones in lower-end neighborhood and you'll find higher-end wines and liquors, more fancy organic produce, bigger delis and bakeries with artisan cheeses and stuff like that, and so on. I have some friends who lived in Bel Air for many years and they did their shopping at the same pretty normal Ralphs that UCLA students went to. There *are* some higher end stores but they're generally more specialized, cheese shops or specialty import places or whatever, and not general supermarkets.

If regular stuff from an upscale supermarket truly isn't good enough for a richfag there are some delivery services that will bring you the same kinds of really high-end meats and produce that are used by top-level restaurants but I don't think all that many people really use them.

Are you retarded? Who said zoomers are wearing Rolex Subs? They do wear divers though, because divers are big and attention-grabbing with their steel bracelets and big indices but still look somewhat subdued. They're not wearing Rolexes but they're wearing various mallshitter quartz divers. I see this all the time. They're not wearing G-Shocks, in fact most zoomers think G-Shocks are too loud and they don't have the confidence for them, they would rather wear their stupid fucking day-glo shoes.

That's not what Rolex represents, it represents advertising power.

When you buy a Rolex, you are basically no different from a woman who wants a diamond ring because "diamonds are forever" and "a girl's best friend". You are an advertising zombie.

How the fuck do all you faggots keep your watches from sliding down, then?
Only options I can think of are either wearing some ultra sticky rubber or silicone band or thightening your strap like a tourniquet.
(Or reguläre doing a certain salute. Hm, looking at where I am, that’s probably it. )

Probably the cheapest option is a Seiko G575 Sports 100-style watch. Unfortunately the original is now an expensive proposition because a) the vintage watch world is being ruined by the same fags who ruined retro gaming for everyone, and b) Bond collectors.

So for your consideration: the Seiko Wired AGAM 601, released in 2015 alongside MGSV: The Phantom Pain. A slightly larger redesign of the Sports 100 by Yoji Shinkawa. It was limited and currently sells for crazy prices on eBay, but shop around on Japanese marketplaces and you can grab them for about £500.

Alternatively, Seiko reused the same module in a 2018 watch loosely homaging another G757 variant. The AGAM 401/2/3/4 and 701 models are all the same case but in a variety of colours and strap styles.

>500 bucks
How is that "cheap"? The G575 was the first watch I fell in love with, albeit the more sensible 400 and 401 variations, because the 500 is hideous.

I never bought one, partly because I realised the date replaced the seconds display, and mostly because if it wasn't a bond watch it'd be 200 bucks, tops, and the casio royale fills the same niche almost as well.

Considering Bond’s other watches are generally in the £4000-£10,000 bracket, I’d say that’s as cheap as you’re going to get without buying a plastic Casio shitter and deluding yourself into thinking it totally looks the same.
