Amouage Epic Man is really underrated. Much more wearable than people give it credit for due to the massive dose of pink pepper. It's spicy and balsamic with a little resinous sweetness due to a secondary myrrh note. Would recommend.

There are fragrances that I've worn wearing different cities. As soon as I smell them now I'm instantly taken back. Same thing happens for events, special occasions, so on and so fourth. It's a way to encapsulate a memory in a bottle.

If you know that you enjoy certain smells already (like lavender, wood, citruses, tobacco, incense etc), you could try looking into popular fragrances containing those notes or just ask for recs here.
One of the best ways is to just go to the parf store. Don't listen to people there, they're usually clueless, though there are exceptions. If you live in a big enough city, chances are some niche stores can also be found.
Don't smell more than like 10-15 different ones at a time. Test them all on paper. Then spray whichever one or two of those you like best on your arm(s). Continue smelling them as you go about your day. If you end up enjoying em, order a 5-10ml decant. If you empty the decant and still want to buy, go for it.
This is the best way to approach buying fragrances. Sometimes, you won't be able to find a certain bottle in stores and will have to order a sample or a decant blind just to smell it. This is fine but for the love of god don't blind buy full bottles based on just the notes on Fragrantica. Also yeah, Fragrantica can be a valuable resource to check the most prominent notes and find out how mass-appealing the scent is.
I can also give some recommendations on what fragrances to test when starting out, other anons will also probably chime in.

The singe best thing that you can do is visit department stores and smell fragrances for yourself. Dior, Prada, Armarni, Tom Ford etc. Try and sniff out what appeals to you and your style, as well as what suits your climate and how you'll be wearing it, whether that be formal, casual, so on and so fourth. Copped this guy from fragrancenet because you faggots seem to like it, and after spending a day and a half or so testing... it’s fucking great. I can see why it’s controversial overall given that it is definitely a throwback to old school barbershop fougeres, but damn. The peppermint is great, the Haitian vetiver comes through giving it this salty seawater accord mixed with the pink pepper and mint which gives it this fires oceanic vibe. They did a really good job of capturing the Viking theme while still keeping it wearable and gentlemanly. Plebs can suck it, Viking is one of the better Creeds released in a very long time

Usually you want to get at least one for warm weather and one for cold. Some people get one specifically for the office. One bottle for every occasion can absolutely work though. Just make sure you get something you truly love and it's not just "nice" (this applies even if you go for multiple bottles). It might take some work, but pays off big time. Again, don't test too many at a time, probably 10 scents should be the limit.
My recs to test when starting out are below. Hopefully after you smell them you'll better understand what type of perfume you want even if you don't end up buying any of these.

It's entirely up to you. There are fragrances that suit purely a casual appearance, also fragrances that are pretty formal. I would say however that the majority of fragrances are pretty ubiquitously fitting in terms of style.

In terms of good "warm" scents, check out the Dior Homme line, as well as fragrances like Dolce & Gabbana The One, Tom Ford Oud Wood, YSL La nuit de l'homme, Valentino Uomo, Boss Bottled Intense and Armani Code. Obviously be aware that "warm" scents are suited to either cold weather or nighttime, please don't wear these on a hot day lmao.

Generally speaking for the office, fresh smelling scents are best. Prada is king for this with their L'Homme as well as Amber Pour Homme which are both extremely soapy but still masculine, Luna Rossa sport is fantastic too. Other fragrances I could recommend in this category would be Bleu de Chanel, Aqua di Gio Profumo, Terre d'Hermes and Eau Sauvage.

If you were looking for something in the high heat, definitely look into Versace eau fraiche, D&G Light Blue Intense and Creed Millisime Imperial as well as the original ADG. All of these are extremely light, refreshing and fruity fragrances, obviously suited to casual wear in summer.

im trying to revamp my cologne choices. ive been wearing the standard sephora gucci, D&G, kenzo and gaultier for way too long. i mean i will still keep them in my general roster but i want some things for different occasions. like for instance my CK One Shock is probably my favorite for nights out bar hopping around the NYU/Union Square area or on a casual date, but i need something thats more appropriate for more formal events around mixed company. for instance the aforementioned Shock wouldn't be appropriate in Newport RI or the Hamptons (im from NY)
