Tattoo anons, is $7-9k for a half-sleeve a rip-off? It's $200-250 hourly for 25-30 hours of work, and I'd tip 15-20% on top of that.

Money is no issue, I'm just curious if in getting ripped off. I love this artists work though and I wouldn't get anyone else's. I was looking for an artist I liked for 2-3 years prior to this and this guys's wait-list is up to a year. He has ~10k followers on Instagram. This is my first tat btw.

we cannot answer this question without seeing the artists work. What's their IG handle?

Taste is subjective, and I know the anons who hate it would be the loudest. In my eyes, their quality is 10/10 for the genre of tattoo it is. I'd rather go by how in demand my artist is: he has 10k followers on instagram and you have to wait up to a year for a session.

>> No.15314947

>>15314860
I agree taste is subjective but I don't think anyone would disagree there are general levels of quality we can point to. I promise I won't call you names or insult their artwork, but we honestly cannot advise whether that is worth the money or not until we see their work. It's the quality you are paying for, not the number of hours .

>he has 10k followers on instagram and you have to wait up to a year for a session.
I can buy that many followers for less than $100, and wait time has just as much to do with filtering out people who are impatient or buying on a whim and won't show up.

I promise I'm not here to bully anon but we literally cannot advise even a general answer without seeing their work

200-250 $/h is steep but not completely outlandish. The amount of followers says nothing about the price they charge. What´s more important is, how much experience do they have and what style are they tattooing. Does the artist use only black or a limited palette or the full spectrum? How intricate is their work ect. Without knowing what the artist actually does it´s really hard to judge. But in the end the only thing that count´s is if it´s worth it to you.

Im getting a full sleeve and some of chest panel done in japanese style in London. My rate is about 150 GBP/h if I include the tip. And I don't know what style are you looking for, but a half sleeve is prolly not 25-30h. My full sleeve will be roughly 25ish hours.

>1 year
For that money and time you could:
>Buy 1 year Gym membership/a decent home gym
>Get yourself an Amateur Athlete Body, regardless of starting point
>A really fancy wardrobe
And a holiday.
If you want a tattoo, go for it.
But the tattoo will require 'topping up' and only gives you one benefit, and $7000 is a lot of money.
Also think of what other services you could purchase with $200 an hour x 25hours.

What...? Tebori literally means hand tattooing, you probably mean irezumi. Also if you check the "real" japanese horis, almost all of them do linework with a tattoo machine nowdays, colouring is done by hand. Even Horiyoshi III is doing that.
I really don't have time to get a tebori tattoo (especially in Japan), considering I'm flying into the UK for it every session.

This is what I did and it looks way cooler. My tattoo artists boyfriend was also her apprentice and would just practice on himself constantly. A few of the bigger pieces looked really beautiful but there were a ton of smaller fillers and little designs that were nothing special, but when you put them all together they create something cool

If you're a /fa/ggot off the street who doesn't know his head from his asshole, then yeah, pay more than $100 an hr. My dudes do portraits, it doesn't get any better than that, I been paying $100 an hr for 15 years.

They don't. Go look at some portfolios and ask for their hourly rate. Someone who has made a name from themselves might think they can charge out the ass but you will find several people who have just as good work for half the price. I guarantee you that none of these faggots in this thread have sat more than a couple hours.

This subjective really, I don't really like american traditional tattoos, but they do work in a collection and you can, indeed, get a lot of work from a lot of different tattooers. I much prefer the japanese style, bigger surface, bigger designs. It really is subjective.
>>15317775
Like I said, it probably depends on the design, what style are you getting? Some designs are simple and just a lot of work filling up areas, others need a lot of fine work with lines. I am not saying he is screwing with you, but youll be able to judge it yourself once you start it and see him work.
>>15317798
Tattoos can be cheap in small towns and shops, but you will be required to pay premium for great artists, for the simple fact some of them are booked for months and they can charge you that money. Its hardly any different from any other job.
>>15318157
Whats your point? Sat 5-6h each session, does it have to be more? I mean if you get a 20h tattoo done in 2,4 or 5 sessions, nothing changes.
>>15318325
No, you shouldn't. Noone asked you to either. Its for them, not you. But in general, dont get a tattoo for attention, thats a great start for tattoo regret.

>> No.15318376

>>15314844
honestly, unless you're rooted into a culture that is built around a tattoo design (japan, maori, etc), I think it's dumb to try to emulate that. If you look at most tattoo artists, the people who look best with tattoos are the ones who just collect. The dumb shitty ones you get just end up contrasting and blending in, especially when the story is, "I was at Pagoda and blitz out of my mind and one of my friends gave me this shitty little felix the cat flipping the bird. Oh and here's a tattoo bangxganji or insert any world class tattoo artist did here for me."

>> No.15318380

>>15314844
It depends on the city and the artist.
For me that sounds expensive and a lot of hours for a half sleeve.
But that's all depending on the detail etc.(could be worth it)
