If you had a million dollars to spend on a watch what would you get. Inb4 I'd buy a rolex and save the rest. Not allowed. You have to spend all of it at once on one watch. Inb4 I'd buy a rolex anyway.

seiko has been attempting to chase the midrange and upscale market lately, but they are not offering value. seiko5 were very bare bones watches but they were super cheap and there were tons of them. the skx was very rough but it was a functional ISO certified dive watch for 100 dollars.
now you pay 250 for a non-dive watch that is basically just redialed SKXs without water resistance and they still use fucking hardlex and a movement you can source for 30 dollars

The SKXs were never $100. More like $180 in the gray market, which is still a good value for the money. The crazy thing is how the basic divers, like the SKXs and Monsters have gone up in price. There are new SKX007/009s going for $350.

for a long time the average price of an SKX was 160 new and they routinely went on sale for less, down to 100 occasionally. the gen1 monsters were at one time possible to buy for 100. this was an amazing value. hell, at 160 they were an amazing value. now monsters are like 250-500 depending on the reference, SKXs averaging about 250-300 depending on the source.
seiko was the value brand. now their prices are 2-3x what they were, and you don't actually get much additional value.

Unpopular opinion: Invicta is the chad brand
These watches have SOUL.

I bet a lot of these watchfags are virgins who are desperately hoping having a Rolex will finally get them laid.

Guess what girls don't know about neither give a shit about "muhhhh precision crafted" watch movements and all these obscure foreign name luxury brands.

If you crave attention for your watch your only option is the CHADVICTA. Walk into a room with one of these suckers and everyone will instantly know about your watch, glaring in JEALOUSY.
INVICTA simply EXUDES testosterone.
Having an office meeting with your boss who has some cuckboy rollie or omega, with all the stacies there listening? Simply roll up your sleeve I guarantee you all the stacies will be fully focused on your MAGNIFICENT TIMEPIECE it just EXUDES EXCELLENCE.
These watches even put obnoxious jogger rappers who be trying to stunt with their soft womanly "iced out rollie" ok princess, your watch is TWICE the size just like your manhood.
You weak pussy simpboys talk shit about INVICTA, because you are absolutely INTIMIDATED. Deep down you just know you can't pull off something which requires such ABSOLUTE ALPHA DOMINATION of every weak simp in the room at ALL times. NO other watch brand can compete. Basedko is the perfect example of the ESTROGEN brand for WEAK EFFEMINATE boys(not MEN), and that is why those are the most commonly found watches posted here.
INVICTA is here so let the WHIMPERS begin.

Long story short, I'm NOT anybody's an enemy and neither do I exploit anyone. I'm simply a lawyer than works in a very specialized area. That's it. I lurked 4chan since I was a senior and therefore I keep coming back whenever I have the chance.

IMHO most anons here have very interesting watches, disregarding if they are expensive or not.

How does one photograph the back of a watch without getting your tits and a strange saucer shaped circus mirror view of the room around you in the reflection? I was pretty gung-ho about opening it before, but I don't know if I want to potentially fuck up the gasket in a diver. true, one thing about the BB58's charm is that it's an homage to the Tudor 7924.

In different colorways, does it bastardize the 7924? I don't know. 39mm is a great size for it, no doubt. Sadly I don't think we'll ever see a Tudor diver in 40mm (or a Sub-style diver).

The BB58 and the GMT were/are homeruns. I just hope Tudor has more greatness up its sleeve than different colorways.

I have heard that the BB58 is kind of played out and Tudor knows it. Everyone who wanted one has one by now and at this point they're no longer special nor are they a deal. When the retarded hype buyer crowd falls away it's probably best to try something else, and that might be a smart move.
A new colorway for the BB58 would be really uninspired and I think difficult to pull off. The design of it is already perfect and the colors are a large part of why.
My personal wish is that Tudor leans in to the Pelagos, which is an amazing watch. Lately, exotic dial colors like orange, purple, teal, and green are picking back up in popularity, and the styling of the Pelagos can take advantage of that better. I would like to see that. Let's test this then, shall we. My mom died from cancer, my dad and grandma have significantly diminished mental faculties due to old age and depression, and I have no other living relatives to help. Everything we had, which wasn't much since I'm both from a poor country, and from the poorer socioeconomic class in it, went to my dad's treatment over the last 10 years. The resulting poverty and family situation ruined my entire life and all the prospects I've ever had as far as money making goes, which weren't much in the first place.

Will you paypal me the value of one single watch from your 10+ watch collection, so that I can continue living and paying for my dad's and grandma's existence for the next 10 years, and possibly make something out of myself while I'm still alive (did I mention I have a disfiguring cancer? not many people will "give me a chance" when they see my face) or will you leave us to rot in a ditch?

when you have -too much- money most goals cease to be a challenge.

Want something? buy it. Need to solve a problem? throw money at it. The dopamine and self-esteem boost that normally rewards the individual after a difficult struggle through hardship is no longer present.

This is why rich people are often listless and do all sorts of meme shit, they get very bored with their life. Theres even a term for it, "Affluenza"

Can somebody recommend me a watch, i know nothing about them and purely want something aesthetic.

Pic related is wrist, could it sorta match the goldish colouring or tortoise shell of the glasses.

>the mechanical spinny gears do look good but im assuming more maintenance and price
in general yes. The most expensive and prestigious watches are 99.9% mechanical. They have less accuracy than battery quartz. +- 10 or so secs a day is very normal. But the charm is in the mechanical aspect of it--think about hundreds of tiny little parts and whirling gears and springs working together, very old school tech. These watches need external source of power, either by winding the crown (handwind) and/or wearing the watch (automatic). There are also small things you need to look out for (Avoiding magnets, sudden shocks, setting the time between 9pm and 3am, moisture)

>Brands to look out for or avoid
AVOID fashion brands. Shit like Armani, CK, even Fossil. They are not real watch companies, outsource their manufacturing to mystery factories in asia, and typically use the cheapest movements possible, its like 90% markup.

>how long can i expect the watch to last
10-20 years or so no service, if you take care of it. Over time the lubricating oils dry up, the spring wears out, sometimes even rust when moisture seeps in (improper care). Depending on the watch, a service might not be worth it. With service a watch can last forever as parts get swapped out or repaired.

>once i measure my wrist is that the same as the strap
no, the strap is longer than your wrist and you adjust it yourself.

dont worry about straps that much, most people swap out their straps (its easy) for different colours, to extend the life of the leather, for different materials (like rubber, nylon etc). You can find everything from $2 to $80+++ straps online.

ideally you should not wear the same leather strap daily, leather needs a break. If you wear it daily it'll get gross quick from all the sweat and moisture. And if you want your leather strap to last longer I also recommend getting a deployant(butterfly) clasp so you arent bending it to shit everytime you take off or put on the watch.

Estimated turn around time given was about 5 to 6 months!!
Just wanted to check with other collectors, if this is pretty normal / standard charge for a perpetual calendar service from Patek? seemed a bit too high to me!
Should I get the case polished? does Patek do the laser polishing like Lange does? there are a few scratches here and there and on the solid case back after 17 years of use.
I would appreciate advice and input; thanks in advance.
