Is wearing chinos and rolled up oxfords during the summer practical?

>> No.15203524

Sure, but it depends on the heat. If it's too hot, it's better to go with shorts and polo shirt, but usually at nights temperature is great to go with chinos+oxfords

In public, only if it's extremely hot - height of summer. Even then, it helps if they closely resemble trousers - proper waistband, pleats, cuffs, etc in chino cotton or linen, cream or navy. Worn best with boat shoes or espadrilles. That's my philosophy anyway

That's because 99% don't come from spheres where this style is inherent but pick it up themselves. It's literally the same with posters here. They are all poorly social adjusted individuals who think that belonging to a subculture will at least give them a group that they can belong to because most of people can feel that there's something 'off' about them. They have different things things that they find valuable pursuing but at core they share the very same 'off' mindset as anime freaks and other internet subcultues have. You don't want to date a real preppy girl
>My father is from an (established but still) working class who made it to Penn where he met my mother. He was very preppy and I could post some of his schools' days photos here as inspo. This didn't help him to be treated as an absolute nobody by mothers family just because she is from this newspaper empire clan from CT that you can trace back to 400 of New York. They always treated my father as a foreign body that is only supposed to help to raise kids of his wife. I still have some early childhood memories of going to grandparents' house and how weirdly my father was treated by everyone. Back then I didn't understand anything and have regrets for stuff I was saying as a kid. Moms' family always used to give me and my sister nicer (i.e. more expensive) Christmas and birthday gifts and seemed more fun. For that reason as a stupid kid I was saying stuff like that I love my grandparents from my moms' side more etc. I cringe when I think about now and can only imagine how hurtful it had to be for my father and my grandparents from his side. At some point when I was around 5 my dad had cut contacts with my moms' family cold turkey, and they started arguing a lot. There was no night without them shouting at each other and I remember as a kid that I wished they just divorced. That's why I think I grew up as this autistic shut in who had to lose his virginity to a hooker at 21 and now works as a code monkey in SF This kind of stuff fucks you up for life. My parents separated when I was in college and I don't have good contact with neither of them now. I only hear sometimes from my mother talking shit about my father who apparently has now a problem with alcohol and lives alone in NY. Only now as an adult I can fully understand of what my father had to go through and I feel sorry for him but don't really know how can I help him. Sorry for the blogpost but the dream of marrying a preppy gf can really turn into a nightmare

But seriously, I feel its the long socks that push this into ridiculousness

Consider; hot day, shorts and shirt w/sockless boat shoes or loafers. You head inside into an air conditioned building and rather than change entirely you just throw on a jumper or navy jacket. Or otherwise when it cools in the evening. Though making it a 'uniform' or 'look' with tie is quite bizarre

I'm in the same boat. You have to buy nicer quality stuff than the uniforms. I remember wearing scratchy lands end tier polos and chinos for 12 years of catholic school and when I got to college I wore jeans and sweatpants for a bit.

I realized how nice dressing prep can be when the clothes you buy aren't shitty. School uniforms are crappy bc they know you will probably grow out of one or two sets a year.

Well, there are blazers and there are blazers

A soft shouldered unlined jacket in navy linen or line/wool/silk is quite distinct from a heavy navy wool English style with gold crested buttons. I've a navy cotton jacket w/ patch pockets and corozo buttons that I wear with just about anything in hot weather

One could consider dress codes though, which is evidently how this monstrosity came about - if you are absolutely required by your job to wear a jacket and tie, then how do you adapt that to be as practical as possible in sweltering heat?

Then you're probably just going to have to get used to the new look, preferably you'll want to wear clothes which have no colours which stand out too much (earthy tones, neutral colours etc.), preferably no patterns (although twill, herringbone and even barely corn patterns are allowed for jackets at the start, if you're not feeling confident, only then can you move onto checks, windowpanes or other things, shirts can have stripes but don't go too thick or thin, jumpers are preferably left without a pattern for the moment), and of course well fitted clothing ( not slim or baggy but somewhere in the middle, although if you get clothes which are too big, get them tailored if you can and you try to have a good relationship with the tailor). You'll probably feel weird but that's only because you're putting effort into dressing compared to others. Yeah, these points may seem obvious to most here but oh well. Anyway, if you still feel weird after a year, /tip/ just isn't for you.

The truth that autists in this thread can't swallow is that you can just incorporate /tip/ pieces into your outfits. Going full /tip/ mode is often just wearing a costume not outfit (I don't want to use the word LARP because I know what will come next). I actually had luck to go to one of older Oxbridge colleges for my grad degree where I met lots of truly rich/posh/upper class guys. British, American, French, German literally from everywhere. None of them dresses like this thread wants to believe they should. When occasion needs it they dress very sharp. Some of their outfits for formal occasions or black/white tie balls are more /tip/ than everything I ever seen in this thread but normally they just wear some /tip/ garments and mix it very well with more casual stuff. E.g. loafers + OCBD and chino or jacket + jeans, jacket woolen pants and turtleneck, sports or a club quarterzips with a shirt and a tie etc. It's almost never a fully a /tip/ outfit if the occasion doesn't ask for it. They still don't blend and look smart because you can tell that all of their stuff is really good quality and fitting well (sorry to tell that but they actually wear a lot of slim fits, I sometimes see more spacious trousers but it's always a very deliberate use of this element often to contrast with the rest of the outfit). Charisma helps too probably. Another thing that I observed by seeing them in person is that they very often incorporate 'fun' attention grabbing elements, you can make even the loafers + jeans interesting by having bold plain color socks or some fun jacket, trousers or shirt - very often being a folk garment brought from travels.

>> No.15206759

>>15206751
It's quite hard to explain this and I believe you must actually have grown up in a certain environment and just got bored of it to be able to mix all of these elements nonchalantly. I'd post some photos as examples but I'm afraid that I already had angered some of autists here who will try to dox them or me.

Most people wouldn't do that, dress for the occasion but remember that it's better to be over dressed than under dressed. Say you are at a bar with your friends, they'll wear a t-shirt, jeans and a jacket on top, and you'll wear a ocbd on top of a jumper with chinos. If you're in a city (not for business reasons) then you can wear a sports jacket or blazer on top, if not then you can wear a ocbd on top of a jumper or turtle neck if it's cold, if it's mild just wear a Barbour or Harrington jacket and a ocbd and if it's warm then a ocbd or a polo.

I saw SRS at a thrift shop in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen vintage wool overcoats in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the coats and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each coat and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

You don't have to go all in. You can start small. You don't have to make a drastic change overnight because you have the yearning to not dress in streetwear and/or sweats/hoody everyday.
You're going to get razzed because we keep it purist in this thread and I like that. Just take the inspo and make it your own.
Feel like a schoolboy in a polo/khakis?
Ditch the polo for a crewneck, maybe a button up with a collar? Keep the khakis or chinos.
Maybe you feel weird with the chinos/khakis. Start with the polo/button up short sleeve with jeans.
It's all about small steps in transitioning your style and being comfortable.
Nothing looks worse than seeing someone feeling uncomfortable with no confidence (yes there is worse, don't nitpick).
You're already wearing sweaters so why not just wear the sweater with something not denim? What's so bad about throwing a OCBD under the sweater, hell even a short sleeve with a collar? Maybe switch out what I'd assume is cotton for wool with no collar.
Good luck on the journey.

This is very accurate. I have no way to prove this without doxxing myself but I went to an expensive ass private unironic prep school for K-12 with /tip/py dress codes. Also most rich people who aren't massive attention whores try to blend in a lot of the time.

>>15207299
This is probably the closest to how people dressed there. If something was a little more formal then a navy blazer and khakis. Or just a regular suit. But IRL even in tippy prep circles super elaborate mens wear isnt that common.

Literally just wear khakis and a decent shirt and you'll look better than like 99% of americlaps.

Ive been trying different hair lengths because I have nothing better to do. 1 inch is actually pretty reasonable and easy to do. Just trim it all over. Or just leave some on the top. If you google how to do it it's pretty easy. You can also just use scissors but its more difficult.

I cut mine to like 10mm or something. Pro tip, dont do this.

i dont want to bust out a whole new thread just for my question but unfortunately /fa/ doesnt care much about formal wear on a daily basis.
im attending a wedding in early august and want to buy myself a new suit, something less formal than my grey and blue ones, something fun and summer-ish, mix matching jacket and pants. maybe even curduroy, herringbone or something patterned.
I like matching beige and navy in general, thought about something like pic related (in regards to pants/blazer, thinking about shirt and shoes later although i like the grandad collar).
i rarely wear suits though so tips and inspo are much appreciated.

It’s cringe and not /TIP/ at all. Only someone with really narrow hips can pull a SLIM fit. It’s looks odd and feminine on the majority. The low rise makes your torso look really long, the tightness around the groin/hip and tapered leg give the illusion of wide hips and toothpick legs. So I suggest not wearing them unless your thinspo or gigachad with narrow hips. There’s an exception for mid/high rise slim straight trousers, but I doubt they exist.
