Well, there you have it. I actually use my things and don't regurgitate what I hear from the internet. You should probably just get a g-shock or protrek, though. The G-shock is considered more durable and it's easier to get a 200m water resist one, but the protrek is fun for hiking because it comes with an elevation sensor, which you don't actually need but it's neat.

But you can wipe it 100% clean, plastics tend to absorb greasiness.

>> No.15174377

>>15174363
The plastic Speedy is more true to the original with more legibility and a warm light distortion inherent to acrylic crystal. You can also buff out scratches.
Sapphire is very clear, but unless they do an antireflective coating it's much harder to read in the light. It is practically scratchproof but will shatter, although anything that can shatter sapphire will do more damage to you and probably fuck the whole watch up anyway so this is kind of irrelevant.
Mineral is the worst because you cannot buff it out but it is less scratch resistant than sapphire.

It's not a toy though, it's a pilot's tool. It's all about legibility. No bullshit white and black contrast. They did however have a thick application of lume for the numerals, creating a subtle 3D effect, then outlined in regular white. The subdials are also slightly recessed if you look at the edges. The date window is well cut and the hands are nicely finished. This is not far off from the older Speedmasters, also tool watches, before they made them all flashy.

There's tons of microbrand watches that are nice. Look into Nodus Watches (especially the Retrospect), Zelos, Direnzo, NTH, Astor and Banks etc. There's a shit ton of them.
I've been waffling back and forth about getting another blue watch because I don't have a blue diver and I'm pretty much flipping a coin between the NTH Nazario Azzurro and the Astor and Banks Sea Ranger B. California dials are a bit polarizing fo some but I love the way NTH has done theirs. Pic related is the NTH.

The Astor and Banks has a better movement but the finishing on NTH subs are just phenomenal. I've already got a black NTH (Scorpene Nomad) which is a diver but with an almost Flieger dial design. It's definitely not for everyone but I love the damn thing and it's hard for me to decide whether to get pic related or try for the Astor and Banks out of Chicago and give a new brand a shot.

I had a movement issue on my Jacque LeMans Liverpool (Jacque LeMans is a citizen group brand) and they wanted me to pay $75 to ship a $300 watch to Austria for them to look at it before they would honor my warranty claim. I've had a similar sort of problem with an Orient where the bezel gasket on my Mako 2 broke and basically froze itself in place to the point where it pretty much will only turn if you put your whole arm's worth of pressure into it. The watch is still under warranty and I contacted Orient about it and they wouldn't ship either me or the online AD where I bought the watch a gasket and basically wanted me to go through the process of replacing the entire watch over a $.40 bezel gasket that they for some reason won't sell to anyone.

Meanwhile I've gotten a ton of microbrands and the closest I've ever had to an issue was the case-back on one of them was sharp and all I had to do was send a picture to the owner of the brand and he 2-day priority mailed me a new blank case-back no questions asked.

Most watch brands give you shitty customer service. They basically consider you a retard who probably fucked up the watch on your own and they go to great lengths to not honor a warranty. Did you know that if you have a dive watch, you take it swimming, and it breaks due to water damage, they typically will not fix it? Like what's the fucking point then? They pretty much don't want to see you unless you are buying the watch or willing to pay for a service and not ask questions.
With microbrands it depends. I hear the Smiths guy is a legendary asshole, for instance.
I really love watches but I've started to hate anyone involved in the industry.

They will say you probably did not screw the crown on or that it's most likely as a result of normal seal failure or some other horseshit to try and get out of it. If your watch dies due to water damage you are basically just shit out of luck. Watch companies do not respect you.

Or maybe its something mundane, perhaps he got drunk after a night of partying and hit it on a lamp post. It all adds to the mystique of the watch. Each dent and scratch is an imprint of the past, beautiful and flawed, a tiny moment in time, captured in the metal.

Hey there all! Hereby I present you my trusty DJ36 that i've been wearing for almost a year now after getting it for my 18th birthday in May!

It's got an interesting story as to how I got hold of it. Last year around march/april it turned out to be a royal pain to het exactly what I wanted: black or blue dial, domed bezel, with a crownclasp jubilee bracelet. Why? Because around then, the only chain of authorized rolex retailers here had none left since they were awaiting the new DJ that was to be announced at Baselworld.

I didn't want a 2019, because with the 2019 DJ the jubilee bracelet returned to an oysterclasp. I was ready to give up after having been to all 5 stores in my area, until I called another one a bit further away from me and they told me they could possibly help me out!

What ended up happening is that they had a 2018 DJ36 with a domed bezel and jubilee bracelet, but it had a white dial with roman numerals. However, they could swap it to whatever I wanted, which I ended up doing! As you can see, I chose black since I wasn't 100% sure of the blue since I hadn't seen it IRL. It took 2 months but it was VERY worth it.

Best part, The Rolex retailer didn't charge for the new dial!

So there's my happy story. This DJ36 got me into appreciating watches a lot and I'm thinking of investing in another watch myself soon, but I don't have an idea of what i'd like yet...

As much as I like the chink Ti bracelets the metal squares are totally different than just putting a metal bezel on a 5600. The inner case is completely redesigned so they could add a bumper inside so the watch is still actually shock resistant. Plus the screwback, inner metal case etc etc. I'm sure it details most people won't care about but they are still very different watches.

For 500 bucks you get a very poor watch. No sapphire, the heaviest model, effectively on par with a 50 dollar chink upgrade except you don't have your choice of printed screen. I guess if you bought one before the Ti models became available it's not so bad, but at this point they just seem like a waste of time.

Heterosexual and only slightly Italian
I agree with the other guy that a black bezel might have been a better choice, you would get some super sexy high contrast.

It's very steel. What's the point of the 12-hour bezel here? Do you set it to indicate UTC or something?

I might not use it for what it’s intended for, but I use it when traveling to reference what time it is back home. For instance, I live in based Michigan, and when I was in Cali I set the 3 of the bezel at 12 on the dial, so whenever I checked the time the number on the bezel was the hour back home.

I know it’s very steel, I wanted a whole white/steel/snow and ice vibe

I am legitimately kind of a watch guy but I realized the other day that it may actually be the most conventionally masculine interest I actually have.
It’s a complex feel for sure.

Watches aren't masculine. I know you might've been lead to believe that thanks to marketing, but it's up there with diamonds being the only thing that's acceptable for a wedding ring. Just gibberish designed to try and milk money out of idiots.

>Bulova has a blubbering retard as a head of their marketing dept. it seems.
For real, they have a legit moonwatch and they had the brilliant idea of making it king size and fucking up with the band width of their models. That same watch in 38-39mm (similar to the original) and the entire stock is sold in five minutes. But no, they make a nice watch for hulk tier wrists because the godamn watch is 55mm lug to lug.

I don’t really like the way the steel ones look that much.
On the bracelet it looks a little too plastic and I actually like that the Casio Royale actually looks just a bit plastic from some angles in a way.
Do you have a Royale already?
I just find that it serves so much from like surfer dude to office job and just way much more than you people might think.
I’m a watch guy not a watchfag.

Yeah I've never had any problems with any of my mechanical watches in any sort of issues. I wear my divers and field warches to work out at the gym, work on my cars with them, do most of my labor job with them and don't really run into reliability problems. If you're doing something super high impact like being a boxer or working with a sledgehammer you might eventually damage the movement but most modern movements have plenty of shock protection to get you through 4-5 years of daily wear before needing to be serviced.
