I grew up in a very affluent area where you'd see pretty much everything cool and exotic on a daily basis... I've only seen one Aston of the era ever in person. You can get the odd 944 or 968 for less than $15,000. Whether it works or not is up in the air, but I think that was true when new. Lancias can be found in the US, especially the Fulvia, of which plenty have been imported. Importing a car in general is cheaper than people think.

At the beginning of the decade they were pathetic, downsized boxes carried over from the end of the 70s like picrel. Then they developed into weird hybrids between the glorious angular barges of the previous decade and 90s soap bars.

Rare exceptions include the "traditional" mid-sizers like GM G bodies and Chrysler M bodies.

The American car peaked before the oil crisis.
