As I mentioned in another post, white walls are great because they reflect a lot more light and make a space feel bigger. It's also easier to get right; colors are way harder to pull off correctly.

You can try stuff like west elm, restoration hardware, b&b italia, ikea, or look for consignment stores in your area

How do y'all keep up not just maintaining the room( s ) lived in, but actively clean, organize, declutter, etc. daily / weekly / monthly / yearly. I think the secret is to have a system of procedures for each; i.e., one procedure for daily sanitation, one procedure for weekly … and so on and so on.

If you're a skilled wood worker, probably medium difficulty. The layman is gonna have a hard time

> It feels — I don't know — too, too complicated and, like, busy.

That's funny. I'm the opposite. I wear pure black/gray/white but love the tan/brown/earth colors in my living spaces. I find light earth tones make for the most livable spaces.

> Is this an /int/erior or an /ext/erior?

Just got shivers from the reminders of architecture school.

> Interesting contrasts.

Yeah I love the use of that grid pattern in various places - on the floor, the tile, the basket (amazing choice).

> What the fuck is this — an interrogation room?

I'd spill the beans in that interrogation room, I'll say that.

Holy fucking shit (excuse my language) thanks for the content. Do it yourself is always an option — I just didn't think that ,, panels '' could be used in lieu of a complete concrete / cement skeleton foundation.
I have a father who has much construction experience so this is actually an option.
The thing is, doing it yourself is a ,, no bullshit '' thing — you fuck up and you have fucked up a lot of material, time, stress, etc.

As a perfectionist, personally with DIY I would absolutely need, need to practice on a mock demo / simulation before I attempt the real deal installation.
I have only browsed /diy/ a little, but I am sure they have guides on approaching a /diy/ project with confidence.

Absolutes are a meme. Everything is a meme. Some people dig what they dig. I am not going to go suprememe leader and force people to … you get my point. If someone tried to get me to … I wouldn't want to. I don't know man … 'cause like some stuff is actually obviously wrong to continue to practice (human sacrifice, but, like, even then who am I to say it is wrong — I do think it is wrong).

My point is that: in my opinion everything is relative, however, at the end of the day there are right and wrong ways to do things.
The number 2, two is very interesting and the nature of reality is complicated yet simple and a duality of meaning.

That said, I would replace that black (looks faux) "leather" couch.

Will you be using that tv above that dresser? If not, get rid of it,. The coffee table in my opinion clashes a bit with the wood walls - not a fan of that shade, but it could be the lighting.

for black furniture inspo. I find the people who live in that home to be nearly impossible to listen to, but their space is very considered. The problem with all black furniture / clothing / objects is that things get lost amongst each other. It's difficult to maintain a mise en place with that problem. This couple puts lights in their shelves to let the more colorful objects be highlighted in their homes "like jewels" I think is how they put it. Otherwise, dark furniture is better is a light space.

>>15124359
Disagree. Trendy for a while? Sure. And used to promote a particular, sterile-looking minimalist aesthetic. But the applications of concrete are extraordinarily varied and it's a relatively low cost material. Something cheap, durable and versatile is a great for designers with vision, and for patient, talented craftsmen. Concrete will also accept a lot of different finishes, while always looking like concrete, making it invaluable to the modernist point that a material should never pretend to look like another material. Don't paint pine to look like walnut. Paint it a color, or show off it's "pine-ness" etc. etc. Concrete shows the marks of it's application, from scrapes, to polishes, to the imprints of wood siding and so on. Essentially, concrete is one of the most honest modern building materials we have, and the marks it bears show us that it can't lie about its own materiality.

My aunt relocated to London and had been living there for 25 years after University (she moved back to Germany two years ago) and I dreamed of doing the same after University myself. Even have an offer from Adam&Eve but fuck, finding a place to live that's somewhat affordable is hell. Someday I'm going to fulfil my dream, but it's not going to be in the next five years.

The only thing I would add is that the two side closets have sharply sloped ceilings because our roof is mansard styled.

What we have done so far is paint the walls a blue-lilac color and added wood vinyl flooring. Our daughters are 6 and 3.

I doubt your kids will care if their childhood room is /fa/ or not.

The number one thing that's stuck in my memory of my childhood is absolutely hating my siblings just because I couldn't ever get away from them when I wanted to, so if your girls are going to share a room for a while, maybe make your top priority to figure out a way to give them some privacy when they need it? Like maybe beds with curtains or something.

That's a solid idea, thanks. We were thinking of doing something with the open close where they could curtains or a barndoor type thing across the opening and still have room to like read a book or something.

I didn't share a room growing up, so I never thought of a need to escape. I appreciate that insight.

Is that shelf blocking a sliding door? Anyway, the flow of this space can be improved. It is a little tricky because it looks like there's at least two main doorways. Big picture shit is redoing the floor and refacing the fire place. Most people would want to paint over the wainscoting, but I might leave the panel on the far wall above the fireplace as-is. Most people would put a TV on that shelf above the fireplace, but it doesn't look tall enough/may be uncomfortable.

Easier immediate-result type projects would be replacing the lighting fixtures, ditching the white cabinet/pillar and deciding what, if any, trinkets you want to keep. Even if you don't feel like you can get rid of a lot of these things at the moment, you can always warp it and store it. The guitars are cool, some of the busts are neat. That would be one hell of a yard sale.

My personal preference would be to make this into an updated study/office, unless this is the main living room. I would maybe do a display case or a glass table where I could have the busts and skulls on display. Could be cool to keep it adventure-rustic theme. What I'm attaching is for reference for the fireplace. If you love the wide look, keep it and paint it, if you don't, I would consider converting the sides to shelving. You could probably fit most of the stuff on the black open shelves on that and free up that space. Sorry for your loss.

tough one
thats a bed that doesnt want to be in a corner, not does it want to run horizontal against a wall - something more like a day bed/sleigh ypw things that visually loked more 'couchy ' could change things up.

perhaps separate the 'zones' a bit - you dont need like a full aisle between the couch and the window and you dont need that big gap between the horn leg table and the tv - so the bucks and the tv all slide closer to the window so that side of the room hads two distinct areas. then perhaps you slide the bed a bit more towards the middle of the wall and get something to cover the fusebox. thats the first easy idea

I think you could shift everything to the left like anon said. Then maybe a large divider to the left of the bed and maybe something at the foot of your bed running parallel with that end of the wall. My wife can still view my screen thru the divider and we can have conversations. But I can also play games or draw in peace. Plus storage space.

Very dumb /biz/ness decision friend. 2.6k? No way to find anything cheaper and put the rest into stocks or something?

100% agree. especially right now since you can't even do much so location is unimportant.

you can totally find a whole house to yourself with a backyard in ballard/freemont for 2.6k
