Are hobbies related to fashion and aesthetics unfulfilling? There's always going to be new shows, new pieces to see, buy or collect. Same goes for aesthetics, tons of hobbies can revolve around that it just depends on how far you want to get into it. That's why I asked about money, because with time new shit always comes out, money itself isn't important but it's necessary to sustain a lifestyle like that. Tons of little hobbies will fill up your time and if anything that feeling of fulfillment will only be temporary until something different and new but related to your main interest is introduced to you. If that's not genuine fulfillment then I don't have another idea.

Yeah, those things interest me, but I feel it's not time consuming or consistent enough to end up in fulfillment. I rarely have days where I can wake up and say I'm looking forward to doing something specific and even if I do, these are just fleeting moments of enjoyment that can't be sustained. I don't know, maybe I have depression, but I've felt this way even when I was at my happiest.

do the hobbies you like and make them fashionable. for instance, going hiking and being outdoors isnt particularly fashionable, but when you pay attention to garments that not only serve a function, but also look good (see organiclab.zip on instagram), then it becomes fashionable. its more about clothing being an extension of your lifestyle rather than the other way around, as that comes across as inauthentic which for me makes it difficult to be comfortable with what i wear

I most certainly am not "effay." I enjoy "introspective" hobbies like reading, photography, music, and time spent outdoors (ALONE...or with one other person). Maybe spend some time trying to think of hobbies that are natural extensions of your personality.

I think most hobbies can be effay as long as you thoroughly enjoy them and they become extensions of your life/personality as opposed to something you do to pass the time. I personally enjoy playing a variety of instruments, sewing, reading, being outdoors, and I'm considering taking up photography. I do these primarily because i enjoy them and I think that part of what makes them effay is that I'm passionate about them, as opposed to doing them because I think they will make me look cool.

To relate to the thread though, I make "art" for fun. Before you go whining about how getting good is hard, I don't mean photorealism with charcoal. I like to capture aesthetics with simple shapes and colors. It's a lot easier than you think. Assuming you like fashion you probably have a bit of an eye for that shit. I take things like 80's music videos, graffiti, oldschool low riders, and album covers and just try to recreate the vibe through shapes and colors. You don't have to be talented to have a cool style. In my experience, this comes from sheltering yourself too much. You're comfortable right now - you have food, clothing, shelter, Internet, etc. - so your mentality is one of stasis.

What you need to do is throw yourself at new things. Admittedly, that's gonna be hard nowadays, but you still gotta do it. Go on hikes by yourself. Start fucking around with new languages. Try stuff. Stick with it at LEAST a month before dropping it. Eventually, you'll discover stuff you naturally like.

There's never gonna be this magical angel that comes to you and tells you the shit that you're gonna develop a passion for. You're gonna have to spend the time to find that yourself.

>no chance of getting a job because i studied stem.

Thirty years old. A year ago I fled California with my girl in hopes of carving out the traditional life I grew up with.

It's very sad to live around people who don't know that Hells about to swallow them up. CA is horrible but it's the cutting edge, a decade before everyone else sees how fucked they are - and by then they're as good as dead.

I love writing letters. I have some international friends who I send letters to sometimes, it can be expensive to do it frequently though since nobody uses mail and its like $1.50 just to post a postcard, but it makes me happy to receive a reply. It's like the excitement of getting a package you've been waiting for except you didn't pay for it and you carry around that joy all day because it's not superficial or a trend that you'll get over in a month.

I also like collecting weird VHS tapes at junk shops and watching them. Usually they're just old recorded tv shows but I find old local tv channel ads kind of charming. Have not really found anything too interesting yet. I always love old skateboarding vids though.

Hiking and bushwalking are also favourites.

And I do ceramics, painting and printmaking.

it doesnt fucking matter what your interests/hobbies are as long as you enjoy them. stop shaping yourself up to be a cookie cutter example of a certain aesthetic

with that being said, i wear 80s european sportswear and follow professional tennis and WRC rally racing. i play mostly racing video games and listen to breakbeat, EBM, acid trance, dark electro and synthpop music (new order and depeche mode mostly in synthpop)
