>there will never be a COSC quartz chronograph with such dial and case aesthetic, proportion and size

Why cant current microbrands just get a grip? Oldfags like Heuer and LeCoultre got the proportions right almost a century ago, yet you must shit out ANOTHER quirky diver that is TOTALLY different. And even if they do, they do a homage (5mm wider) than the original of some abundant boring shit noone wants. I highly doubt the old guard patented the looks, so why would it be an issue?

Yeah i like that little thing a lot.
Hard to say, maybe some older models of digital timexes, seikos, citizens. Most newer models include several functions because it makes no difference for production. You can just ignore the functions if you don't want them. Or is it more a principle thing, to have an uncluttered watch?

>> No.15059199

>>15059149
Totally. I wondered about this myself. I guess that micro brands just buy ready parts and rarely manufacture them. Most of them try to follow the trend of shit proportions, not risking to go smaller.
Proper proportions would also require investing money and the microfags rarely want to do more than they have to.

>> No.15059201

Most of it is just looks, dislike how all these extra functions clutter the face of the watch, make them bigger to fit everything inside, and have all these buttons protruding out of both sides. The simplicity in itself is nice too though.

It has a full steel case with a screw-down back under that bezel. On a cheaper G-Shock the case is plastic, with a steel back being held by 4 screws, just like on the cheapest F-91W. It looks similar because of the same bezel on the outside.

It also has stuff like solar power and radio control, which increase the price too.

My daily carry at the moment. Holding within COSC requirements, which is wonderful. Granted, it's been serviced and had a mainspring replacement after the one it had before snapped Looney Tunes style a few weeks ago.

Pocket watches can be a meme in real life, but honestly...you'll find excellent movements for a fraction of the price of modern day Swiss. As long as you have a good watchmaker, you'll be fine.

There ya go! Pocket watches from the early part of the 20th century are very good with temps, though positions are dependent heavily on how well the movement was originally adjusted. The problem is that many watchmakers don't want to go through the trouble of adjusting them today, and if you get one to do so it's usually costly because it's time intensive. So if you go vintage, much of the time it's a crapshoot if you get a movement that performs well within 5 positions (depending on the model and make, they might only be adjusted to 3 positions). Also, pocket watches are different to wristwatches in that the only positions that mattered heavily were the crown at 12 or 3 or 9, as that was the way the watch was carried for the majority of the time, though I think in daily use dial up would be a position that needed to be considered too, as I can't imagine too many average joes would store their pocket watch upright in a drawer as opposed to dial up on a night stand.

>2. Someone would need physical access to your watch to attempt retrieving any data from it.
So? It's trivial to get your electronics looked through, such as when crossing the border. And this is such a minuscule amount of data if it's just written in plaintext that it could be read via RFID by a nearby cellphone or a RFID scanner. Why would you wear a log of all your locations on you on purpose? Just adds more shit to the mountain of shit.

Good eye, though this is the rarer hunter case movement. RR Vanguards, like many other RR standard movements, were crown-at-12 and dial-set, whereas hunter movements were crown-set at 3. These were normally bought by private individuals as opposed to companies or railroad workers. In a sense, this is the type of watch an upper class person who had an interest in American made fine precision instruments would purchase; it's not as prestigious as a European made movement, so it's not truly upper class, but it's far more expensive at its time than an average person could afford.

Fortunately, the movement is in excellent condition in terms of running; no significant or concerning wear and tear on any of the jewels or wheels. I lucked out.

Watches on the off hand. You can find a few crown-left watches, though they are made with lefties in mind (right hand wear), Im sure there are people buying them for the novelty and/or those who like loose straps but dont like the crown digging into their hand. For winding/adjusting you will be taking it off anyway, and if you cannot adjust it with your off-hand, you may have palsy.

As far as rings, no idea, people even wear their wedding bands all over, personal preference.

Get an original replacement strap. Don't fall for the nato meme. It will irritate your skin when you seweat. The rough canvas will move on your arm and annoy your skin. Happened with my diver during vacation in a hot city.
I even washed the strap and let it dry over night two times, over the course of 3 weeks, didn't help.
Switched back to my silicone strap and never had a problem since. Swet builds up quicker under rubber but i just wore it loose and no irritation.
Or if you want to get funky, get a zebra band.

Differentfag here, hi. Those people are rich who've got net worth above their need, and who don't gain anything from choosing things according to the value proposition. Compare to the poorfag for whom the price difference between an Invicta and a Rolex stands for some six to eight months' wages after tax; by going for the former, the poorfag can either put that money towards things that're more useful in a real sense, or just sit on his ass and chill for six to eight months (as applicable).

Hence the boomers with expensive watches: they're retired, their money comes from investments and their pension fund. Nobody born in the 1970s or after is going to have that unless their parents were filthy rich from day 0.

One thing is for certain, the R.W. Smith is insanely expensive and not even comparable to the other three in terms of what you're looking at. The other three watches you posted are generic fashion brands that come from Chinese factories and retail somewhere under $200 with cheap quartz movements. If you're looking for purely style really any of them will work, just don't expect them to be well made and long lasting. That R.W. Smith is a $150,000 watch, not exactly the same as the cheaper fashion oriented pieces you are comparing it to.

Chinkshit. Vostokfags laugh at these. F-91Wfags laugh at these. Not even the brands are even remotely actual; but fashion brand watches are also chinkshit, just with a posh trademark. The straps will give you nickel allergy if metal (or provoke it if you already had one), and the leather will seep toxic bullshit into your skin from continued contact and sweat.

Get literally any real watch instead.

As for style? Anyone with any sense about watches will spot chinkshit the second your sleeve comes up to show half the dial. They'll look down their noses at you for $200 spent on a $4 shitter which, likely as not, won't even work in two months' time.

Two reasons.

Firstly it's a watch that primarily gained popularity in a previous era so it's generally seen as a "boomer watch" by most younger people into watches. Tag gets lumped into the same bin as Panerai and to a lesser extent Breitling because of their popularity during the late 80s and 90s to mid 2000s trend of gigantic boomer sports watches.

Secondly, Tag tends to be very overpriced for what they deliver. There's nothing particularly wrong with say a 43mm Auto Aquaracer. A lot of people just feel that if you're going to be spending $2300 at an AD for one, it should probably have something better than a Tag rotor (that you don't even get to see) on top of an entirely unmodified SW200-1/ETA 2824-2. You're literally getting a lower quality movement than in the $600 Tissot Gentleman powermatic 80 silicium for in a watch that costs almost 4 times as much.

I don't fault anyone for liking the aesthetic of a Tag Heuer Aquaracer or something and saying, hey I want that on my wrist. However anyone who actually wants to argue that it's a good buy for the money is really deluding themselves.
