Lisbon's suburbs, 2/10

Downtown and everything from Olivais to Algés is top /fa/. Tourism has helped revitalize some of the more downtrodden areas, and new buildings are pretty good looking overall. State-built houses form the 40s are also strangely cool looking when they gave architects pretty much free-reign in their designs.
Buildings from the 70s to the 90s are, however, horrible. They're either soviet-looking, or postmodern knockoffs, pioneered by Tomás Taveira.
The suburbs, for the most part, have that soviet, cheap looking feel to them. Large apartment complexes separated by sections of green overran by untrimmed weeds. Can't wait for the moment they all get torn down.

Detroit's about the same as you describe Munich. The city itself is beautiful, some parts in a kinda desolate way, but most people don't have the best fashion sense. The most interesting fits are on hipsters/rave kids downtown, and the slightly well off black dudes who are into streetwear. Other than that? With that being said there are some really nice neighborhoods with a strong cultural heritage which I love (Brás being italian and Liberdade being japanese) and some places that are just really pleasent in general to visit (Pinheiros, Vila Madalena, Itaim). With that being said the outskirts are pretty shit.

I've lived in Chicago my whole life, little less than half of it in the suburbs and the rest in the city. I have never once personally gotten into any dangerous situations or seen anything particularly horrible (I walked around a lot, even at late nights and I had visited friends in the "not safe" areas of Hyde Park). To be honest I really miss the diversity of Chicago and the people. A lot of interesting architecture in the city but fashion has always been a wasteland unless you go to SAIC or something. The aesthetics of the city itself is /fa/ in my opinion.

Moved to Tokyo, aesthetically cool and very convenient and people dress WAY better than in America, but people are fucking gross here actually in terms of hygiene. Architecture is interesting with a whole range of different references and literally something to do every day/night. But Japanese people are so intolerable and closed-off that I'm getting sick of it.

Olivais is shit, wtf. Marvila used to be cool, but now it is quite decadent. And there is also the entire Almirante Reis strip between Martim Moniz and Alameda which is also upper trash. Going westwards, the lower Cais do Sodré area is also very trashy. Other than that, Lisbon is pretty cool, although in the suburbs, just past Algés, there is Carcavelos and Estoril, which are some of the most trad areas of the country.
Completely agree with you on the other points. There are even some extremely foul, probably haunted swamps on the southern margin of the river to further aggravate the situation of the suburbs.

I work downtown in the “art district” but it’s mostly mediocre pieces in ugly buildings with sporadic murals. Fashion in South Florida is all but nonexistent with Broward fashion in particular being any combination of basic hoodrat attire or the famous Haitian gym shorts and Sperrys. The most enjoyable thing about the area is actually experiencing Broward county’s unique crack fueled niggatry since even the rich, boat filled marinas lack any semblance of aesthetic harmony.

There are few things more worthwhile to do in Miami than to trespass onto an empty lot with a good view of the ocean. It’s stunning every time. It’s important to remember that Miami is a Latin American city, Spanish is necessary throughout most of the city and not entirely absent from even the richest parts. Popular culture has given Miami a very specific lens by which to interpret it, a city built with drug money best enjoyed in a fast car and a running, coke filled nostril. The issue is that that is all you can get in Miami. The newest obsession of alt kids and art hoes that is Wynwood has a single worthwhile place to go. Wynwood brings novelty to the stagnant and predictable city but loses a lot of the soul of Miami as it’s filled with vacationing wasps and blacks in place of the normal Cuban,Venezuelan etc pests. Make sure to stop by the little Cuban cafes and restaurants though, they are generally comfy, inviting and culturally rich. Stop by El Carajo if you like Spanish food and Flamenco.

So Paris... I lived there for five years (London now) and actually It's not the insane always-on-fire immigrant hell-hole that everyone likes to say on here. Compared to London, which has truly sold its soul, Paris is a pretty interesting, quirky and authentic place. The city itself has some great architectural gems and a pretty cool downtown area. The people however are often pretty trashy looking and most often are dressed in clothing with their preferred loser sports team on it. The 20 or so colleges and universities (one of them the flagship of the SUNY system) all around the city bring people who would otherwise never have any reason to come here, and often the best dressed people are the Chinese exchange students.

May be, though for me at least it's the loss of authenticity. Big cities are just "living factories". It's just chain stores, broad roads, cheap and minimal buildings. There is no soul left.

I live in a rotting, rusting town in West Virginia. Suburbs built in the 1940's and easy access to abundant nature. It's a lot more comfy than you might think. And the halfhearted patriotism among the constant gloom is kind of effay in a weird way. Still pretty depressing place to live. I'll probably move to Pittsburgh when I finish my degree.

I’m sorta partial to the white Philly aesthetic. Typically white Philadelphian has a thick beard, circular rim glasses, and some form of a hat on. Most dress like heroin junkies but it sorta works. There seems to be an obsession with personalizing clothes with pins, patches, etc. which I dig. Very grimy city and it shows. Definitely not the clean-cut aesthetic /fa/ goes for but there’s definitely an identity.

However, the “hood” areas in Philly definitely are 0/10.
