My boots are once again the OP edition (need to update the shitty links sub-edition)

anyone know what the hell happened to oliberte? they had good-looking products at good prices and suddenly they changed their country of manufacture, raised their prices, and stopped producing a bunch of models.
pic related is a boot I had wanted to purchase, they no longer carry them. their new boots look different, bulkier with thicker soles. I liked these boots because they look slim and light.

does anyone know of an alternative brand that looks similar to these at reasonable prices?

I've got a pair coming in black oiled smooth. I was debating that or cxl but the durability of the oiled smooth (used in the smokejumper firefighter boot) plus the variability of cxl's grain pushed me towards oiled. I will eventually get some cxl boots though, probably the custom bounty hunter makeup offered on bakers.

I think all the options are viable, it comes down to personal preference. And if you aren't using bakers for sizing/custom makeups for the MP, you're doing yourself a disservice.

I own two pairs. One in black CXL and one in brown oiled smooth.
The brown smooth ones are bulletproof. That leather is seriously though, but not uncomfortable at all. The CXL ones are a lot softer and more comfortable to wear longer because of the nature of CXL. The CXL ones scuff extremely easily, the finish on them is paper thin. That's something to be aware with CXL

My job requires that I work in very wet environments and as such buys me new boots every 6 months. Last pair were Timberland PRO 6” Direct Attach, and they have been fantastic, never once have my feet gotten wet despite walking through up to 6 inches of water for extended periods of time.

The company policy changed and now my budget has increased from 125 to “just buy Redwings or something”. I just hit the 6 month mark and want my new boots. What do I buy with that same or better performance with that budget.

Id like a pair that are slightly smaller and easier to get in and out of than the Timberlands, but with the same comfort and water resistant properties, or, just a cool ass boot for lighter use and ill keep using the Timbs.

Suggestions pls

My father used to buy his shoes at this Florsheim store on my city and they had lasted him for years. Not sure if their new models with the rubbber sole last as long as their goodyear welted ones though.

>> No.15013636

is it worth picking up a pair used at all? im seeing characteristic top grain creasing, but the smoothness of the leather makes me think corrected grain. its not a currently listed model either. soles look solid quality though, a rich looking leather with rubber inserts and a welt that seems to go under the heel block.

If you have the chance, hold it and inspect it physically. I wouldn't recommend you buying second hand apparel online, since sellers can just take pictures of their stuff from a certain angle to hide imperfections and damages.

yeah its always a risk, but the savings are such that im willing to take a punt if i think ive a solid idea of it. ive so many expenses at the moment it seems smarter to accept the idea of buying used, maybe putting in some work renovating them if need be, and holding off on the nice carminas or whatever til im more flush. wrinkles in uppers can be sorted out from what ive gathered, soles are always fixable for a price assuming the uppers or welt arent damaged. just a matter of finding a shoe with a relatively healthy looking pair of uppers and insole i think.

>> No.15013684

Check the seller's reputation, that's also another indicator of the quality of what you're buying.
>the savings are such that im willing to take a punt if i think ive a solid idea of it
How much are we speaking?
>soles are always fixable for a price assuming the uppers or welt arent damaged
True, but sometimes it could cost you up to $130 usd for a full goodyear welt resole, which is half the price of a pair of brand new shoes from Florsheim.
I'd say go with caution, read the seller's reviews, compare with other options, look for less renown artisan brands, etc. It's not impossible to get a used pair in mint/good condition, but you just gotta be very analytical.

up to a tenth of the MSRP on some brands going by auction sniping

>True, but sometimes it could cost you up to $130 usd for a full goodyear welt resole
guess id best look for relatively undamaged soles then.

>t. Had spent $300 for a used pair of Saint Laurents that broke within the first 4 months of use
a fair point senpai, ill exercise caution

i messaged the seller for a bit more info, all i got out of him was a message saying hed posted new photos which showed me nothing new, and telling me the size of the shoes width. man says its a D, which i believe is 2 steps below average shoe width. all in all id say its a rather dubious listing, and a D with if its the same as UK widths is far too narrow for me.

Yeah I’ve had pairs for years due to family owning a farm. Everyone wants to dress in some sort of blue collar way, so that’s probably why blunnies got so popular. But they’re pretty nice. They’ve at least doubled in price in the last 10 years. The soles do fall apart after some time and because they’re glued you can only go to a limited amount of cobblers. But they’re also a great brand as in they’ll replace your boots for free if you bought them from them or a direct seller. If you’re any kind of ag owner they used to give you deals. Don’t know if they do that anymore. But I still wear them to this day.

Cop or not?
On sale for 38 Euro; original price was 87.
It's dirt cheap but I'm kind of short on money now, however I also need new boots because sole is fucked up on my old ones and I'm not sure whether replace the sole or just cop new ones.

I want some decent Chelsea boots in black with no bullshit broguing or stitching or memes. I want full or top grain leather, and stitched construction. I’d also like to spend less than $300, if possible. Is my best bet still Meermin, or are those a leddit meme? Would I be better off just getting Allen Edmonds?

looking for a really black simple boot with quality that will last for a year or two. i own quite a few pairs of shoes and boots so i normally dont wear them everyday (aside from beaters). not looking for a boot that can be beaten into the ground and still come out stand, but also not looking for a piece of shit that will fall apart after a few wears.

for COMPARISON, NOT PRICE, i am looking for something like this. all black, thinner sole. i know this boot has the decorative markings on it but i'd prefer something that's just straight leather without the frills. also possibly interested in getting black chelseas but red pill me on that pls

The best pair of boots that I ever had was Bata (got them on vacation in Prague) that were pretty much what you described (black, straight leather, no decorative markings etc.) and that looked new after nearly 3 years of nearly everyday wear (with proper maintenance).

I don't know if Bata still sells them, or even if they ship abroad but for about 70$ I got single best piece of footwear I ever owned.
