Well that sucks

If you dont use chrono maybe just let it go full circle and stop it on starting position or alternatively let it run all the time. I wouldnt send it right away if it's so expensive, Id try to live with it for some time and only send it for repair if it still bothered me then

It's weird that they're not paying for the shipping, if their customer service was good, they'd give you a stamped envelope to send this one back.

Obviously if you can't do anything else send it back, you can't have a non-working watch that you just bought. But if they have such shoddy construction shit QA that they let this come to you without being tested, then it could happen again and again and again.

Which is a shame because the watch looks really good.

Just send it for the repair my guy. You wont enjoy your watch until you do. You wont get embarrassed. Post workers probably deal with dozens of people who need to send something for the first time every day. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed about.

Asking again, no answer in the last thread:

Is it worth it to spend the extra money on a Staib mesh band over a Vollmer? The clasp looks a lot better on the Staib, but everything I read says Vollmer is good quality.

Also what would be the best type of mesh (milanese/shark/etc) for a 39mm dive watch. I have a bb58 and would really like a mesh band for it.

My point exactly. Any talk of any taboo subject and people like you want to shut it down. This isn't hardcore politics talk but politics comes into every area of life even fashion.

It's not unreasonable on a watch thread to talk about the safety of wearing expensive watches out in public.

I wouldn't advise some dude to drop 20k on a watch if he lived in some crime ridden city, that's just stupid and shows an utter lack of reality and actual concern to who you are talking to. It's like telling a woman hot pants and heels are a good idea to wear when you know she lives in the middle east but you dare not say that because it might be political.

It's honestly hard to know. I know that generally the big problem I have is with lug to lug rather than diameter. My wrist is 17cm (about 6.75") but I really can't wear anything above 48-49mm lug to lug without it looking bigger than I'd like. I have a 44mm diver that you would think would be way too big but at 48mm lug to lug I can pull that off easier than my 40mm junkers pilots watch with a 50mm lug to lug.

At 6.5" circumference and 2" flat on top you should theoretically be able to get away with anything up to around 50mm lug to lug and the promaster tough is 51mm lug to lug so it's right at that upper edge of what may fit you. Without seeing it in person and trying it on there isn't really much of a way to know how well it will work for you when it's an edge case like that.

They were the best and most promising for nearly a century but the tricksy swiss muscled in on their turf with their cheapo imports and the quality American products couldn't compete on price because the burgeoning American middle class just wanted cheap cheap cheap.
Ironic, since "Made in Switzerland" was a designation of shame invented by the US government and enforced on swiss imported watches to ensure the buying public wasn't cheated buying a junk watch made by mountain germans.

3 from Miyota: https://miyotamovement.com/product/?ct=1&skwd=&cts4=1
1 from Ronda: https://www.ronda.ch/en/movements/quartz-essentials/ronda-normtech-700-6000/caliber/715li/
and 1 from ETA: http://www.startimesupply.com/product/ETA956612.html (this one isn't listed on their website, which means that it may no longer be in production)

The battery in these movements can last almost as long as the rechargeable one in solar meme watches, but it's much easier to find, much cheaper to buy, and you never need to recharge it. So why aren't these movements more commonly used in watches?

Alright guys I'm relatively new to watches and I purchased a Seiko Sarb017 Alpinist from Amazon about a month ago. I just have recently noticed that either the dial, hands, and/or indices are slightly misaligned.

I'm not sure which or what combination of those things it is; it's nothing major but enough to trigger muh autism occasionally.

Is that something I can get fixed? How much would something like that typically cost? Where would I go/send my watch to get that sort of service done? Also it runs about +10 seconds every day does regulating that cost much? Thanks

What precisely do you mean is misaligned?

If you go to set the time on the watch and you change the time to 12:00, are the hands not aligned with each other?

Or are you saying the indices on the minute track are not aligned with the hour indices?

Or are you saying that both the whole dial is rotated out from correct alignment?

Do the hands align perfectly at 12:00, with the second hand stopped at 12:00? If they *do* then the issue is with the dial, if they *dont" then the issue is with the hands.

If it is the *hands* that have the alignment issue, it should be a realtively cheap fix from a competent watchmaker.

On second glance I do see it. I think it's the dial titled slightly to the left, based on how the date window looks slightly obscured on the bottom. But again, I've seen slight misalignment issues like this on tons of Seikos, this is within normal for better or worse.

I was mostly really disappointed with the cheap shitty bracelet this thing came on. It rattles like hell and barely seems to fit together.
Other than that, the lume didn't impress me as it's not very legible and the design is kind of bland, and I'm not crazy about the gratuitous 42mm size which is more suited to a chronograph watch.
It was my first mechanical watch, but perhaps I could have done a better job looking for the right one.

I don't know what exactly you were expecting for the price point. There's very little in the under $200 market that has a bracelet worth wearing. I generally have enjoyed the bracelet on my Orient Mako 2, but even then you can very seriously improve the watch by spending $80 on an aftermarket bracelet.

You also got one of their older watches that isn't exactly in the list of "Orient watches that tend to be recommended". It's sort of life buying one of the more obscure Seiko 5 7s26 models for $80 and using that to write off Seiko as a whole.

It's not a matter of saving, it's a matter of being a dirt cheap bastard to be very honest.. I know real Seiko5s can be very inexpensive. My SNK809 was +-€60,- at Creationwatches, but they're a reputable watch seller, unlike Wish.com..
