That means they are too tight in the hips. If they fit well everywhere else then you might want to consider pleated pants. Pleats grant you some give in the crotch/hips area. If they're already pleated you might want to size up and tailor the rest to fit you.
>>14946525
Cost per wear is the biggest casual filter. Most normies don't ever spend more than 120 on a shoe.
>>14946540
Most leather soled shoes are comfortable. You are probably used to only squishy sneakers.

>> No.14946578

>>14946570
Weejuns are very entry level tier. You're better off spending more for Allen Edmonds or meermin. Crockett and Jones or Alden are also good but that's a other price jump up. AE last fits my foot well and is very reasonably priced. I've seen gentleman's gazette shill for Ace marks before and they look decent/cheap. I'd be wary for deals that look too good to be true though

Allen Edmonds have been risky ever since they were sold some years ago. When they're good they're really good and are a well made, quality shoe that will last as long as you take care of them.
When they're bad they're usually really bad and have issues with the finish and construction issues.
Unfortunately AEs are pretty hot or miss now. My advice is to buy in person and not order online as it allows you to inspect them in person.

Question: (A disclaimer first: I am completely new to having my clothes altered).

I had a corduroy shirt darted because there was excessive fabric in my waist area when I wore it, but the fit was perfect otherwise. So the tailor darted it but ALSO made the upper part of the shirt tighter (I didn't want that), and now it's not very constricting or anything but it makes me look super skinny. I'd like to recover the little extra fabric around the shoulders and lats. Can something be done about it? The shirt is beautiful

>> No.14947536

>>14947516
Most likely yes. They usually don't cut the fabric on these procedures. Honestly, if it is not constricting and there are no X marks on the fabric around the buttons, the fit is just nice.

>> No.14947541

>>14947516
Well darting just sews excess material together so if that's all they did then it can be reversed easily by unsewing the parts. You'll be able to see if there is excess material inside.

Thanks for the advice, working on the weight, belong to my university gym (where I'm a professor) and the kids have led to bulking phase because they stay home sick almost every week and my wife also has a high stress job.

We eat nutritious food mostly. It's the university functions with free booze and snacks combined with staying up all night writing lectures, articles, and grading.

These are just the shoes out. The basement and the closet also have about 50 pairs. I have 3 pairs of boat shoes, one chukka that I never wear, and four black oxfords--one pair of Brioni, one Stuart's Choice, one Sal Fer, and one Johnston & Murphy Crown Aristocraft.

I don't really like loafers because I have thicc legs and they make my feet look small.

I also have two pairs of sneakers, one Superga and one Nike. Those are in the mudroom.

By the way, no one except the provost and chancellor and some guys from the law and business schools wear oxfords or black oxfords. Most professors wear "comfort" shoes, sneakers, and the women wear "fashion shoes" during the winter time.

Students wear fucking Canada Goose shit all the time, Barbour, other trendy shit. Only the young faculty and grad students in humanities do the trad prep thing.

I have lots of Harris Tweed (after a visit to Lewis & Harris I even picked up a few custom pieces from a crofter) and that's why I wear brogues and derbies. I have a single black suit that I've worn twice.

I can understand the dadcore thing, at least here in Finland every single 40+ years old guy "dresses up" his slim fit, low rise jeans with a dark navy worsted suit jacket while wearing some colourful sneakers and a too-tight dress shirt with contrasting colours because that's playful and sharp.

Personally, I really like sports coats with jeans, especially if the jeans are a lighter wash. Chad Prom does this really well.

Berg&Berg trousers at least are supposed to be hemmed, they come unaltered and with a "raw" hem. Thus you can tailor to whichever length you like.

However, I do not like Berg&Berg all that much, I think their trousers do not have enough space in the hips and back rise to my liking. Scott Fraser does very nice "alpine trousers" which are gently tapered. Natalino and Yeossal both do good trousers that are high waisted and slightly tapered.

>blazer, sportcoats
>outerwear
Blazers and sportcoats are not outerwear. Unless you buy them in a size too big for you, and then autistically wear a sweater underneath them. But then, that isn't a blazer any more is it, it's a Coat. Because the now the Blazer is functioning as a coat. And if you were to wear a Blazer over a Sweater, and then put a coat over all of that, you are really just wearing two coats.

A sports jacket was and is designed as outerwear. What do you think it is, a suit jacket? Lmao. That's why they are heavy wool/tweed.

A blazer is also outerwear, just for warmer weather. Why are you even in a TIP thread? You sound hopeless lmao.

The exception to this Rule though is if the sweater is very thin, and obviously you can wear it underneath your proper-fitting blazer. A blazer should fit perfectly in the shoulders, if you want to look smart. You can't do any thing about what the Blazer is cut like. Don't overcompensate for a Blazer
s slim cut by getting a size large in the shoulders. Understand? A Blazer is worn of a Buttoned Shirt. That's the order of operations.

My Lands End Hyde Park oxfords arrived and I gotta say, I'm very impressed. The material is substantial but not Spier and Mackay level thick where you wouldn't be able to wear it in the spring or summer. It's a good weight, the fit for me was spot on so I won't need to alter it at all which is always a plus and the collar actually rolls. I wasn't expecting much from a shirt that price but the collar roll is excellent.
They're easily better than something like Polo and for half the price.
Anyway, just my two cents.

I want to buy cheap decent quality shirts. Like, one-color 100% cotton dress shirts. Not necessarily only in white.

Where should I buy them, and how much should I be expected to pay for a decent-quality shirt?

I saw someone trying to dress TIP in the wild today on my university campus and gotta admit, it looked terrible. This skinnyfat, soft looking guy was wearing the standard TIP uniform: OCBD without the sleeves rolled up and not tucked in, chinos, loafers, and he had tortoise shell glasses.
I never call anything "reddit" but this dude looked reddit as fuck. Since he had the shirt untucked if he just committed to the casual look and rolled the sleeves he could have salvaged the outfit. But the loafers were the kicker. They looked so out of place. I think if he wore some white plimsoll shoes it would have been better.
The reason I say this is because I've seen enough of the OC posted in these threads to know that most of you posting are literally that guy. Do NOT be that guy.

If you see my post right above yours you'll see that the Lands End hyde park 100% cotton shirts are great bang for your buck. You can get them for 35-40 bucks and then after you order you'll get a coupon for 40 or maybe 50% off another purchase so you can use that to get another shirt for cheap.
Besides that, Spier and Mackay is pretty cheap and excellent quality for the price, just be aware that their oxfords shrink like a motherfucker and their slims fits are turbo-skelly fits, if that applies to you, so size accordingly.
I know they get meme'd on here because of the pony logo on the chest, but I actually like all my Polo shirts. Their fits really fit my body so I never have to get them tailored. If you can find them on sale then they're pretty good value.
Kamakura is really good and their shirts are way better than their price. I have no idea how they can sell them for the price they do. Granted, they're like 80 bucks or something, but they could easily be charging 140 for what you're getting. Their sizing is tricky so read up their size chart and order accordingly.

Granted, they're like 80 bucks or something, but they could easily be charging 140 for what you're getting. Their sizing is tricky so read up their size chart and order accordingly.

I spent a good 2 months honing in on a reliable source of 100% cotton, 80s-100s, spread collar, non-fused, broadcloth/poplin business casual shirts under $150 AUD.

Kamakura was the best I could find. Naturally, anything that couldn't ship to straya was disqualified, so my bounds are a bit tighter than a US citizen.

Non-iron was disqualified, as was any brand that didn't make mention of thread count/cloth properties. Slim fit was disqualified. Any branding, of course, was disqualified.

The hard part was finding a source that had at least three good business casual patterns. A lot of them were bad, too similar, or non patterned (I want my real dress shirts to be plain, not these). Most of the english places in my price range had weird stocking issues or only did french cuff.

MTM places all sucked here. Poor choice of patterns or overpriced.

I'm pretty happy with Kamakura. I got three fairly distinct business casual patterned shirts (bengal stripes, regent check, tattersall) for only $89 US each. Soft interlining, no chemical treatment, and even slots for collar stays. It's of a noticeably higher quality than any other shirt I see in my city's business district.

My only complaint is that it's too slim. It's not slim fit, but even in their fullest range, NY Classic, 15.5 - 35, it's definitely a "Regent fit" in BB terms. The sizing is also fucking weird so you'll need to check very closely. No shrinkage btw.

I wouldn't buy Kama for a formal dress shirt. The collars are too small for anything other than a sport coat affair. For something dressy and high quality, I think MTM broadcloth starts to become cost effective.

Just got my new MTM wool flannel trousers from Herrainpukimo. I love the fit, they are very roomy with double pleats, and yet they look very sleek. The leg opening is 21,5cm.

Thoughts on the sweater + shorts look? I think it's a good summer look, also where can I get good cheap sweaters? I'm okay with buying used.

Thank you very much! I have been lacking flannels before and have used jeans or cords instead, but those don't quite give the same vibe.

ebay, putthison has a bi-weekly ebay post and that has both good recommendations and some premade ebay filters to use.

>Thoughts on the sweater + shorts look?
That's usually my go-to look in early Summer, when it's hot in the afternoon but cool in the morning. In my opinion, tennis sweaters are the best choice for this look.
>where can I get good cheap sweaters? I'm okay with buying used.
I've found plenty of nice sweaters at Goodwill.

10/10 fit. Where did you get the blazer. For the trousers, did you measure yourself or was it an in-person measurement?
