So, the new Bat has dried down now. Not getting much of the animalic stuff anymore. Now it’s sort of a green, floral-fruity. I get guava, I also get what smells like sour apple. Kind of reminds me of a mix of Hummingbird and Dragonfly. Not getting the mineral notes of the old bat at all, no earthiness. It’s not bad, but the original is much better.

He was displeased with my review that I gave it a 4/5 challenging. Apparently this was supposed to be very “wearable” but at least half or more of the zoologist line is more wearable than it. It makes you smell like an IHOP. I've smelled all kinda of coffee from whole bean, to ground, to brewed, and the coffee note in Pure Tonka isn't super noticeable or realistic. It's more like what a 12 year old would think coffee smells like: packed with sugar, cocoa, and other condiments. I definitely understand where the plasticky overtone comments are coming from though. I was probably one of the ones that meme'd up to be straight beaver ass juice. I definitely got a lot of beaver ass juice on first impressions but it just turned into a hyper-masculine and wearable scent after that, and it becomes that more and more with each wearing. I'm concerned that normies who haven't had a chance to warm up to it would also just get smacked with the skanky edge. Because it's not the 80s anymore, I think only people who go to loads of drug-laced raves or gay clubs could really go for a full bottle. 95% of people would be better served getting a decant for the rare moments that call for it, or for running errands solo as a treat just for yourself and to miasma your train car. So I just got my Diptyque '34 Collection' samples. Here are my first impressions.
2 are wow, 2 are whew.

Benjoin Boheme - Fucking gorgeous. At first spray it reminds me of a headshop; generic incense/patchouli accord. It still kind of smells this way on my skin, but in the air it's a different story. I gave this one several sprays on my chest and neck and now I can smell this somewhat spicy, hardly sweet, almost vanillic amber. The sandalwood is dry and woody with a creamy nuance that comes out as it drys down, perhaps the same sandalwood used in Tam Dao, which I love. While it does not smell like TF Oud Wood, she spiciness is similar to my nose. Its a very dry fragrance but the slight sweetness and spice of the amber makes it round and smooth. I love it already, but I might smell like a hippy.

Eau Mage - Really interesting. Despite the main accords being listed as rose, warm spicy, amber, and woody on fragrantica, it has a freshness about it. A bit of an ambroxan bomb, it has some similarities to modern, mainstream, mens perfume, but done so elegantly. I mostly get a woody, white musk. It seems simple but I sense there is some hidden complexity that will come out when I give it a proper wearing.

Kimonanthe - Kinda gross to be frank. My first impression was cough drops, more specifically, that medicinal cherry spray that numbs your throat. I love camphor, one of my favorite scents is hinoki, but I dont like the combo here. The apricot and osmanthus smell kind of jammy and fake to me, combined with the camphor, its just a cough drop.

Opene - First blast was bad but I'm warming up to it. I think of is as a satchet of rose petals your grandmother has forgetten in her wood dresser. It a dry, musty, rose. Dirty, as in soil. It also reminds of these sweet smelling roots my dad used to dig up, they too have a sort of musty, dirtiness, but also a pleasant, maple-y sweetness. I wouldnt wear this, but I can see it appealing to some.

They make up 1ml samples in-store for £2 each. If you order from them online, those same samples are £3 plus postage So I guess you can weigh the costs/benefits of the trip. For me it was fun to check out their shop and talk to the staff, but I was already in town doing tourist shit.

Lads, I went to buy a bottle of Fat Eletrician (great fragrance, btw) and i got a bottle of Xerjoff Erba Pura along the way. I am stunned at how this thing smells. It is easily one of the best olfactory experiences i have had.
It is intoxicatingly sweet due to the pervasive orange and peach notes, backed by bergamot. At the same time it is not overpowering and not even cloying due to it's freshness, I can easily see it being used in the summer. Vanilla, amber and musk as base notes are interesting, but they definitely are only there to support the delicious fruity smell. I think i also get ylang-ylang, watermelon and starfruit, but don't know if this one actually uses that many natural ingredients. Probably not.
Projection is insane, easily fills a room if given 2-3 sprays. I will see how long it lasts, but the "online comunities" say that it lasts well over 12 hours.
It really makes me want to take a bite out of my wrist. This is the most extreme gourmand feeling i have also had Nobile Perdizione sprayed on my wrist at the shop and while it is also a pretty good orange pie fragrance, Erba Pura easily outclasses it.
This one literally gives me shivers. The only negative thing i can point to it is that if you smell it really close to the skin, you can notice that it is a strong combination of aromachemicals, but so are 99% of other fragrances, only sometimes less noticeably so.

Absinth has actually been strengthened in a reformation. Duro, pardon, and the others remain the same. I will say Diptyque is incredibly high quality as is, and these aren't any exception. As mentioned, the performance on BB is excellent. More noticeable that what I'm used to with Diptyque, but still polite. Very long lasting. For me personally, the bottle is beautiful enough to warrant some additional cost.

You'll have to try them for yourself. Definitely worth sampling if they interest you.

I usually wear 4 sprays (probably 8 sprays from a sample atomizer), and get whiffs throughout the day. It will never project strongly but it lasts AT LEAST 6 hours on me. It may improve some with maceration.

For me, performance is far less important than the smell itself. If you love it, get it. You wont regret it.

Maybe get the EDT, I have had a bottle of both and found them nearly identical in smell and performance. Price difference isn't insignificant.

In terms of similar suggestions, it is often compared to by Kilian sacred wood, but I found sacred wood more similar to CDG Wonderwood than Tam Dao.
Hinoki is totally different, but has the same, realistic, austere, and meditative style.
