Should I buy this Seiko watch?

> Fuck off

"Suggest a watch for me."

> Ideally you should be aiming to spend a minimum of 12% of your gross salary on watches each year for the rest of your life, with this figure increasing as you age. As a rough rule of thumb, your annual watch budget can be expressed as half your age as a percentage. For example in 2019, if you make 150K and are age 40, you should be looking to spend 20% of your salary, or around 30K, on a watch that year - so buying a Rolex 116619LB would be a good choice.

It's got a lot of things going for it technically and is very overbuilt. I personally love Sinn's pilot's watches and have always wanted a 104 ST SA I W but I know that the 556 would probably fit my 17.5cm wrist better. Another good option is the Damasko DA47, right around the same price range, also made in Germany and totally overbuilt just like the Sinn. Either one of those would be watches that you'd only need to service every 5-7 years and will still be a great present to give to your son when he graduates highschool.

>he tells me that he had a Seiko SKX and it was his favorite watch because of its cost and durability

Why should I drop thousands of dollars on a watch if I am not interested in showing off wealth? I would like to own a Rolex or Patek, but there prices are so astronomically high that it seems like you’re cucking yourself if you actually buy one.

The Cartier. It's the better conversation piece in case she notices it and asks about it because of the shape and the blue sapphire crown. Think about them in the most basic way, just like a normal non watch person would.

From my experience in showing watches to some friends and other people that ask me, no one would give the Nautilus a second glance and the Vacheron with the sub seconds looks too vintage.

Anything I should know about the Oris Aquis 39.5mm green dial and the Stowa flieger 36mm handwind?

I'm torn between these two and I've seen a bunch of reviews about both watches but I can't decide. It kind of bothers me that the Stowa has a crown position that does nothing in the no date version and I can't see the Oris in person because there's no green dial version in the store where I live.

And it should bother you.
I hate this lazy, cheap tactic. Don't accept it. If they're going to offer a nodate watch they should use a nodate calibre.
>>14888538
Well, yeah this too.
Stowa, by the owner's own pointed "non-admission" no less. Story: someone bought a cheap chinese bauhaus/nomos ripoff that came with a stowa caseback, because stowa also makes a nomos knockoff model (which is in turn an old lange knockoff but that's another story). Owner of stowa left looking like a moron when he couldn't say anything about the fact that his german watch cases were being used by some no name chinese brand. Thing is, there are some german case makers still around so there's no excuse besides being bargain basement penny pinching cheap for outsourcing to China.

Oris there's no concrete data, only that because of the price point at which they sell their stuff it must be mostly chinese in order for them to stay competitive and alive at all.
I've only handled the a larger stowa flieger. Nothing really to say about it I wasn't particularly impressed.

Honestly I'd say go with the Oris. Green's a nice change from the typical black dialed/bezel sub knockoff and if you want a flieger, I'd say shoot high for the IWC mark whatever or go cheap like one of those lower tier laco's or one of the chinese brands that cost even less. Stowa's in this no-where middle ground.

If you really must a flieger in that middle bracket, but don't want the stupidity of the date/dateless dial movement thing, Archimede have a 39mm flieger with an actual german made case, date at 6, for less than that 36mm stowa, which just comes across as a rip to me by comparison.

Go the oris diver.

That sounds dodgy. The IWC is way above what I want to spend on watches just yet, specially with the flieger, which is something I like but it's not something I would consider the most important piece of a collection to be spending that kind of money. I'll get the Oris in the next few months (unless something that I like much more in that price range comes up which is highly unlikely), I hope I can get a good deal. So far I've seen them new around 1400€.

It's hard to see in pics but it has some high polish bits that contrast pretty badly with the nato. It's also so thick and chunky that it feels weird having it on a strap that's so thin. I think the Navitimer look is probably my best bet but I was also thinking it might look good on some kind of composite strap like one of these Hirsch ones.

That watch has literally 0 pieces of flair. Every highlight is functional, no nods to style at all. Witness the twin fucking LCDs on the watch face, replacing the date window on a more traditional watch. There's no conflict in style here; nerds wear Nato straps because they worry about one of the pins falling out or breaking, and the watch becoming lost.

What I dislike about them is the extra guff around my wrist, which I worry about catching on something and, in the extreme case, degloving my hand. So for me it's polyurethane, the kind that doesn't get nasty with a bit of sweat. Makes me wonder what a high-end p.u. strap would be like.

Out of those I'd say the Vacheron. Personally I'd find a cheaper watch to wear though on a date. On the off chance a woman notices or asks about your watch she might find out what it costs. Some people like to flex a bit, but I'm always concerned about gold diggers personally (not that I have that kind of cash)
and would rather women not know what I spend on things.

Just know girls have become way smarter about watches in recent times.
Especially the type of girl you don’t want to be in a serious relationship with will have done her homework on it, and they won’t make it obvious.
Your best bet of staying icognito would probably be the VC but if you want to evade gold diggers at all cost it’s best to wear none of those.

Got this guy for Christmas. I'm in love with it, so far it has showed pretty decent accuracy for the price (+2s a day) and hand winding is something I missed on the 7s26. It's my first "sports" watch and I like wearing it so much I'll probably postpone changing the acrylic on my 60s seamaster.
PS: contrary to the fanboy hate, I don't think this is meant to replace the SKX; seiko has the prospex line for that. It's 100m WR, no screw down crown and the lume is almost non-existant. The bezel has a small alignment issue, as expected from seiko. Either way it'll join the Tissot pr100 and my 7s26 as my daily watch

Buy the Oris used as they tank a bit, if you can push it to 2k I'd pick up a Seamaster but if not a used oris aquis is not bad, is it good looking watch. In person I like the blue but the green is different. The only thing that bothers me about the current 36mm DD is that at the beginning of the year rolex cut 90% of the options.
So you either have the yellow gold, gold dial, gold everything, or faggy girly shit with diamonds all over.

Last year, and forever before, there were at least different options for dial color, bezel type, indicies type and bracelet etc., allowing for a wide range of personal preference in your choice of DD.
All gone because rolex wants to market the 36mm to women except for the classic all gold, which is just too much gold for me. I really want the black dial, everose, fluted bezel, president bracelet and baton markers.
Missed the window.

I was thinking last year about how I had wished rolex would put the ceramic spacers in with the bracelet pins like they did with with the larger daydate to prevent gold stretch. Perfect watch. Monkey's Paw giveth and the monkey's paw taketh.
36 DD got the ceramic linings, but lost all variety options.

So, just know that if you want anything besides the classic all gold 36DD, you'll have to go used or NOS, which is what I hope to get soon.

Girard-Perregaux's probably sole claim to luxury these days is their three golden bridges. They first did this in a pocketwatch (movement side, obviously) nearly a century and a half ago. It didn't win a single prize because the judges decided that it wouldn't be fair to all the other entries since the GP was a cut above in every respect and would take every single award that year.

They're a far cry from their former splendor, but the three golden bridges is one of the few skeletons that don't look like taobao specials. The polishing on the bridges is divine.

No, Omega is watered down with too many models and limited editions. Some eta based movements etc. You can get a used seamaster Pro for below 3k.

ah god you are retarded, all brand have shit lines / models "rolex cellini" you can get used rolex oyster perpetual for 3k but you would be better off with a seamaster. This oh they have to many models oh it's watered down argument again, you're just repeating shit you heard, when it comes to omega if you're not buying a pro, seamaster or vintage constellation you doing it wrong, rolex is the same with steel sports.

Omegas new cal blows everything out sub 10k

Some say Rolex only makes the same models and never innovate, which is true, omega on the other hand have their classic core base models (same as rolex, less of them) and try other things on the side, why can you retards understand that, it's how all the brand work, cars and everything else in your life. All the limited edition are for the rich and it doesn't matter a fuck to them, only poor people complain.

Jlc and zenith are not in the same boat as rolex no matter what you say, you are basing everything of cost. Markets chance, Panerai was were rolex is now and the brand was Rock soild. Gmt now pushing AP money lol, whatever, hype train keeps rolling. Only fools would buy at the top. Rolex makes good watches but don't fall into the hype there are better options for the same money.
