I think a red coat is not complicate to pull off, even if its a bit flashy. Just avoid wearing burgundy/red/orange/yellow/White/Pink pants with them. Also, in feet I recommend brown, avoid burgundy. If you add other colours similar to red you might look like Santa Claus

so far as I can tell, the factory produces them based on chest measurement a d they are labelled differently for different stockists. a 42in chest might be labelled L in the us and an XL in a slimmer market for example. I'm basing this off the fact that I've ordered sweaters from END that were a 40in chest labeled as medium, while the same (so far as I could tell) model and measurements were listed as a "large-extra large" on drop93, which is a menswear reseller/consignment store with stock from The Armoury's hong kong location. I think buying from somewhere that lists the measurement is essential for clothing desu

My point is that you can be TIP without wearing bright Red, Pink, etc. But if you only wear Black, it's not really TIP, because it is playing into that "Puritan" aspect. But yet, dressing only in drab, mild dark colors, is modest. Color just in itself is very important. Just by adding one Bright Color into a dark fit, it automatically makes the fit less modest, and more gaudy. Bright color in itself is gaudy.

In Medieval times the Nobility would lavishly adorn themselves just to show the peasants who was in charge. Then they would outlaw any peasants from wearing the same colors or adornments. Only the Nobility could wear bright colors and it helped to separate them as a Class. But it also was a representation of Order. The Monarchy and Nobility represented Authority and Order in Society. But today, we see the opposite, there is no Nobility in America, and if you are a person in Power, you are wearing a Dark Suit and Tie.

For me, TIP is about poking fun at this aspect. It's not taking things so seriously and being "Puritan". And it also subconsciously signifies that if you are (let's say) a member of the Elite class, you can wear whatever you want, because you don't answer to anyone, you don't have to run some maze in Corporate Dark Suit, and be a member of the "Borg" to try and accumulate your wealth. I am just speaking specifically about Color.

But at the same time, an outsider could view you as simply being a member of the underclass with no taste. Dressing in all these bright contrasting colors. Iow, like a Puritan viewing a Cavalier with that same distaste, but in reverse.

It's a complex topic.

The point is, if you wear only black, or only dark brown, or just one dark color, for the whole fit, you are essentially destroying the playfulness aspect. And a central tenet of TIP is being playful. That is why wearing only black makes it very difficult to still be TIP, because color is very important in removing that "Puritan" aspect of the fit.

The addition of Color, into an existing all black fit, immediately breaks up the fit, into parts. Because our eyes can sense the different shades. The more "Parts" you divide your body into, the less cohesive and "Authoritative" the fit becomes.

I think TIP is about having that sense of Authority, but not trying to overtly show that you are.

Is it about blending in? Or standing out? Context is everything. You still have to "play the game" no matter where you are, and dress in a sort of Uniform, to show that you are one of them, and not a Rebel or "Fashion Terrorist". But so much of modern Fashion consumption is based on the youth market and rebellion. Rebellion sells clothes to young people.

thats the thing, i dont have any solid idea of what im looking for. im essentially looking for a derivative of this thats more versetile, easier to wear in less formal environments, and not pretentious looking. i come from a place where wearing a polo shirt with a pair of levis is considered dressing up, so i cant exactly pull off wearing a suit type jacket or a waistcoat. similarly a lot of country colours would look out of place in a large town. american prep doesnt really have this problem thanks to its more varied colour palette, but i think a similar example might be wearing ivy prep in the middle of detroit before it went completely to shit. so far ive invested in a pair of ralp lauren plum medium whale cords, and a nice pair of oxfords, but im struggling to find stuff to pair them with without looking pretentious and im told i currently look like a school teacher with them and a plain black pullover on.

A shirt and chinos is fairly easy to wear, you won't fit out of place nearly anywhere. Just add some modern fit or cut and don't add too many flashy details. Some instagrams from the list are fairly simple to copy. Avoid blazers and suiting if you live in an extremely informal place, btw what place it is?

yeah i was thinking of keeping it to just keeping it to varied fabric trousers to mix things up a bit, along with a plain fitted oxford til i find some shirt patterns i think would actually work. one of my biggest problems atm is finding a jacket that i like. ive been thinking of buying maybe a barbour waxed cotton one in black for versatilities sake, because its a style i like and its actually fitted unlike most mens jackets which are shaped like waterproof sacks with arms stitched on. im also half tempted by the belted cordings macs though.

im not really surrounded by them, but i do go visit family from time to time in those sorts of places. as for why i want to dress that way, because i want to look like i give a fuck about myself, and because i know when i take care of myself in the way that i dress i typically take better care of myself in other ways too. i just also want to avoid excesses, which means i have to tread a careful line to not look too out of place in any one environment. also if you get jumped itll be because little drugie rats saw you carring something valuable or because youre blatantly wearing expensive shit they can steal easily (watches, coats, etc) and you were alone or with someone who looks soft, i wont be.

I personally like them, but they're not STRICTLY TIP, TIP loafers are penny and tassel loafers, I also think Horsebit, Venetian, and Belgian loafers are acceptable, but many people hate those. I've never seen a source that confirms buckle loafers as TIP, but those look nice, so I say go for it. Wearing loafers that aren't completely Trad won't clash with a trad wardrobe.
