I did not say that its raining all the time but often times rain sets the mood but you are dishonest if you think that is not the case. A workk can touch on cyberpunk like themes but not be cyberpunk in the clasical sense.(e.g black mirror) or you could have cyberpunk or something that comes very close to it (robocop for example) and not have it have the tipical aestetic but none of that matters for a fit because you are trying to evoke the idea of cyberpunk in your clothing and following the exception is not gonna help.

fuckin easy, those black spandex suits with tubing could be approximated with some of the athleisure shit I see out there
and Pierce Brosnan's cool 90s nerd outfit could be used as a solid basis.
also, the evil businessman is a bit of a timeless archetype but having an entirely hairless head gives him a futuristic edge.

The AWOL bag: the very definition of what it means to be a wog. With the AWOL bag, you'll be able to distribute yourself anywhere in the world with a twenty minutes notice to move. The unit itself is highly portable, highly versatile, and always ready to go. With the proper configuration, one wog can live out of his AWOL bag for three to four weeks at a time bearing food. It is an outstanding system which can be transferred to any particular bag system. Important to remember that this particular configuration is not the only configuration of an AWOL bag. I'll give you my reasons for this configuration, please feel free to adopt your own procedures and your own kit, this is an expression of you as an individual, and your own strengths and talents will have your individual needs.

Okay you need to realize that there's a difference between people, and what you call "people". The latter being youtubers, internet journalists, /v/, reddit, and maybe a couple dorks on deviantart or something. All of whom are too shy and ugly and lazy to even attempt to actually put in the legwork that would make them look like the characters from their favorite video games. "people" do not matter. Their attempts at artistic expression are invisible to the rest of reality.

How do you picture the ninjas from William Gibson's Sprawl dressing? We know from the few examples given that they wear things like work pants, slacks, polos, hawaiian shirts, military shirts, and sometimes sandals when the weather is right for it. Their color palettes tend toward dark neutrals (presumably because they're ninjas). In other words, they go for unassuming, simple, comfortable clothing with a tendency toward the corporate drone (or corporate drone on vacation) look. I imagine they'd wear simple suits if the job demanded it. Anyway, this all seems pretty straightforward, but I'm having trouble imagining the little touches that would suggest that these guys are futuristic, highly-skilled, and very dangerous individuals. The only thing I've thought of is favoring high-tech, synthetic fabrics in order to add a modern edge. (Yes, I'd like to try dressing like these guys if I can work out the theory of it.) I should probably mention that the ninjas usually go without cybernetic augmentations.

Maybe that's more like mercenary wear, but it should fit the thread if not the ninjas.

>>14811482
I don't know. Gibson's character designs are somewhat more laid back than what usually passes for "cyberpunk" these days, but it's hard to say that Neuromancer isn't cyberpunk, considering it's one of the genre's seminal works. I guess the ninjas are arguably more like "cyberpros" than "cyberpunks," but that's how it is for GitS, too.

I would think that tabi boots would stick out, but I agree that they'd probably wear quiet, black footwear that wouldn't interfere with agility. Jika-tabi are supposedly useful for construction workers today because the thin soles allow them to feel the ground and keep their balance, so I can see a sole like that being used, but I would expect the split in the toe to be removed because of how odd it would be in many contexts. Apart from the tabi, I think of kung fu shoes, simplistic sneakers, and boots with synthetic crepe soles. I have trouble understanding how flowing clothes would blend in on the street, but if they did wear those, they would be made of a material that didn't make noise when it brushed itself.

Alright, do this: put on black trousers, a black long-sleeved baselayer (the stretchy, form-fitting kind), and a black short-sleeved button-down shirt over that, tucked in and secured with a belt (black, of course). Stretch in all directions until you produce a muffin-top fit. Leave the top button and the collar buttons undone. I know it sounds stupid, but I'm serious when I say that I think it looks good and corporate-ninja-esque. I've worn it and received compliments (from people who weren't my blood relatives, this time, believe it or not). Fuck if I'm going to post a photo of myself, but here I have a poorly-edited photo of Ikari Shinji to demonstrate. I'm not good enough to change the color on his shirt and sneakers, so you'll just have to imagine. It probably helps that my shirt has a nice abstract print on it to break up the monotony of the black (I bought it because it looked like something straight out of Yume Nikki). Anyway, it's a nice way to put a shirt like that to use in the colder months, and the muffin top takes the edge off of bad posture. I know this outfit violates some of the supposed rules of style, but when I look with my eyes instead of my preconceptions, I quite like it.

corporate ninja?

Easy, Motoko. I know she's not corporate but she straight up dresses like a ninja in several chapters. See? It's all in the silhouette; tight waist, forearms and shins, slightly puffy everything else.

The main difference between this, and the stereotypical techwear silhouette, is that the waist, and the forearms, are tight. Whereas techwear stuff is often very loose over the midsection and covers the arms entirely, resulting in a naruto cosplay look. Still ninja-ish in concept but goofy.

The more sensible alternative of course it just to cosplay as a fucking yakuza. And for that you need a loose costume, which is hard to come by nowadays due to the slimfit meme

is right; it's all about the silhouette. The arms stay puffy until about the halfway point and then slim, while there's a bit of extra fabric around the waist that is tied down. I've just recreated that silhouette with pieces that wouldn't be out of place in a corporate setting. By the way, I've discovered that it fits the silhouette even better if you tuck the trousers into desert boots (black, of course).

What?
They are exactly what techwear means. They are waterproof, have a system to lace them up.
I say they are experiment, that went poorly. They are uncomfortable for walking, but they are fine for commuting, that they are made for, and got the name from.

in a context of techwear i think greyman has a point, especially if you widen the range to cyberpunk, nonetheless i feel the colors, textures, asymmetric sillhoutes etc. are about the punk aspect of it, and while i'd say thats a great aspect of good cyberpunk fits/styles i wouldn't see it as the essence.
usefull and needed features in clothes with a sense of your own view, wether thats formal or punk would be the absolut biggest point imo. Cyberpunk takes a step back where living with your stuff takes a bigger role than the sole purpose of looking like something, at least in what i learned about it, and thats barely in a way of looks at all, just how you get to that point if having a style

I'm the guy you replied to, I actually like this perspective a lot. Cyberpunk making clothes more than fashion or even shelter against the elements, giving clothing more functionality. I still think a good amount of a true cyberpunk look will have elements that "go against the grain" or are nonsensical, basically stuff used to show off (Think like, an extra set of antennae sticking out of your head that don't do anything, some guy comes to jack your parts and takes the useless pair instead, almost like how a lizard can break it's tail off in self defense to get away).

odd example but i see the point. wouldn't even speak against it but the flashiness and excentric stuff comes out of the background, just like african warlord memes have flashy clothes, but beside status and looks in context of that (back to greyman here) it's captured, stolen or usefull stuff, not only by being in a life threatenong environment limiting your range of acces to clothes anyway, and you wouldn't see general whoever in heels or anything 'flashy' the like getting in the way of fighting, working or surviving. you have a range of that, definitely, but it's by no means a core aspect
