Friendly reminder for new posters joining our general, Seiko watches are overpriced shitters with terrible QC and are shilled by people who don't know any better. The brand has been cashing in on their name and recognition for the past decade, using it as an excuse for poor quality and QC, and hasn't released a watch worth buying at the price in forever.

Next year I plan on hitting some road courses and autocross races next year and need a good "racing" chronograph to help me imagine I'm a boomer driving something good. Do I go for a lower priced shitter ,the Yema Speedgraf, or do I go balls deep and get the Speedmaster "First Omega in Space"?

If you feel like blowing some more money on watches and really want to trade in for the PO then sure go for it.

Models like pic related are the closest I've been able to find. Thing is this is 33mm while the tourbillon is 37mm. So the proportions of all the dial elements are different; hour hand is too short, triangular indices too small, etc. I've also found 37mm omegas from the period that have the same case, but not the same dial.
Anyone happen to know shops that could make a recreation of the dial on the tourbillon?

nah man it's a pilot's watch from ww2, not a diver. The bezel spins pretty freely and the second crown merely locks it down. It's for synchonizing your time to the second with other clocks in lieu of a hacking movement.

These were also made by Omega, JLC, and Movado early in the war. I just love the look and history

>I've seen a lot of these pop up over the years, but the movement always vary. Is it one of the modified/inhouse movements or a standard Swiss one of the time that usually came with a different rotor?

It has a Gruen movement, they used movements modified from someone, I can't remember, not ETA. This watch keeps perfect time.

You've really seen a lot of Gruen divers like this? I've only seen a couple and I've really searched hard for info on them.

Just did some good snooping and the story of these is pretty interesting especially with the Lindbergh connection to how these came to be. And it's basically a jury rigged way on how to calculate GMT and Universal time based on the knowledge of the earths rotation (360 degrees in 24hours) and bezel markings to mark degrees and finishing the calculations via the hand differences. Or at least that's what i got.

And apparently that particular watch is supposed to be a cal 37.9N

I've seen a few divers, but mostly meant as to Gruen watches in general as they used modified or stock from ETA,/A.S/Felsa/PUW and probably a few others like Benrus did.

Damn you, Gadget, they go for 2-4k nowadays. Nah, good taste, really, with all the other WW2 vintages, good shit.
Somewhat related, I find the Omega WW2 british pilot dials the cleanest and most pretty (better hands than Longines). Speaking of Longines, what were they thinking realeasing that heritage piece a few years ago with a pre-worn dial, 30m WR and 1200 price tag? Clean enamel, 50WR, 600 yuros would well cover their expenses and make a profit, but noooooo.

All that stuff you're talking about is for the Hour Angle navigation watches from the 1930s. Those are more elaborate than the issued watches I posted which have the bezel as an alternative to a hacking movement.

What's the point, it's not like a Speedmaster is expensive or anything. Just buy used.

Did the exact same, great watch for everyday wear. Do find the bezel moves a bit too easily, very happ with it otherwise.
