Friendly reminder for new posters joining our general, Seiko watches are overpriced shitters with terrible QC and are shilled by people who don't know any better. The brand has been cashing in on their name and recognition for the past decade, using it as an excuse for poor quality and QC, and hasn't released a watch worth buying at the price in forever.

I see a pattern in the last few WT threads, that more and more people are leaving autos behind as a platonic love of the unknown, a hype of the 2010s, and move back (to the future) to quartz for the everyday. Being all around cheaper when it comes to buy, maintain and service, better resistance to outside physical forces, exponentially cheaper, unless meme markup by a microbrand. I understand the fascination of the miniature mechanics, but if you dont have a display caseback to wonder at it all, is it really worth it? The whole mechanical/auto watch business seems like a solution working on a non-existing problem that somebody has already solved decades ago with quartz. Demand, supply, I guess?
Worst of all, people not giving a fuck about overall design when using quartz movements, or asking extreme markups for watches with a 10 buck movement and the quality still being shit. I have not seen a pretty likeable quartz-powered watch while reasonably priced in a while now, be it a large manufacturer or microbrand. It is as though everyone has ditched the idea of consistency for the muh feels, mechanics memes.

I dont think that's the pattern at large but I agree with your sentiment. I think mechs are cool bit unless you're paying for a patek, jlc, Lange, or better you're not getting the handmade finely crafted watch you're being advertised. There's a reason that why most mech watches use ETA, satellite, siri and miyota- they are all very mass produced which in my eyes makes them about as sterile as a decent quartz movement. The real red pill is that any wayh will have "soul" if you like how it looks and get a little bit sentimental about it after you own it for a while. The real mech pill is to buy vintage watches or at least very faithful reissues design wise (eg max bill). The other mech pill is to get a nice decorated hand winding movement and enjoy the intricacies for what they are- the rotors of autos cuck you from seeing the really interesting and beautiful stuff.

Objective watch owner tiers, you cannot disagree with the following.

Big cock chad tier, a true watch enthusiast:
>custom modded vostok with hand done case and bezel finish, inside is a movement that he regulated regulated and balance poised to 5 positions BY HAND with nothing but a 2004 acer laptop, a guitar mic, mama's used dish scrubber, a tooth pick and a pocket knife.
>custom oil filled watch that doesn't leak
>custom watch built from cheap ebay and aliexpress parts, with movement completely taken apart oiled and serviced with only a screw driver and some mineral oil. "keeps perfect time"
Enthusiast:
>buys for specs, has never heard of a brand name in his life. Mogs your hamilton with ceramic bezels, double domed sapphire crystals and +/-1spd NH35s.
Likes watches and posts on reddit tier:

Wow, it's almost like accuracy is a multi-faceted problem that needs an actual brain to solve.
Heads up faggot:
>quartz shitters have widely varying accuracy with temperature. Even taking your watch off fucks the accuracy
>cheap plastic modules will grind themselves to dust, wont even last the life of the battery
>HAQ are still not as good as a very high end movement.

The breguet overcoil and better hairspring material have eliminated accuracy problems in mechanical watches. Any other issue is introduced by the maker. Not making a poised balance (ETA shit), not lubing (chinks) etc are where the problems come from.
The basic mecanical movement with swiss level escapement is a perfected. It's your fualt that you're too retarded to read a book.

You can't quickset the date, only via moving the hands between 8PM-12AM back and forth or just letting it do a 24hour cycle as it should.

As far as, handwinding just unscrew the crown and wind it without pulling the crown further, since the crown has only 2 positions anyway.

Gibberish isn't easy to read.. When you unscrew the crown or screw it back in it's already in the winding position. Only if you pull the crown it goes into the time setting position. See; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNFKC6-OXSE

Otherwise, unscrew the back and tighten this reverse threaded screw as that's a commonplace issue that happens with Vostoks. Or if it's a automatic then just ignore it. (Though i doubt you paid 30 for an auto unless it's a used vintage one)

Fuck me, that is cool. How does it sit on the wrist? I was considering one for a bit, but after watching a video that compared it to the Ploprof, I settled for the latter as I heard it said that the DSD wears bigger on the wrist (I think because of the lugs?).

>>14775540
Not the guy you're asking, but mine wears beautifully. I've only worn mine on the mesh bracelet, and it sits like it's supposed to, no wobble or nothing (which I kinda expected from how top-heavy it looks).
Of course, it isn't light, but it's in no way as heavy as it looks. The clasp is really the only thing I could think of that would ruin wearing it in your day-to-day life - It is FAT, but it kinda has to be to fit the nifty extensions in it. Don't rightly know if it's the same deal on the other Seamasters?
And of course, it's tall, like "holy shit that is tall". 12ga might be a bit much, but if you have a 16- or 20ga shotshell laying around, you get the idea.
Funny enough, if the watch in your picture is the SMP, you went the opposite way of what I did, as I was on the fence between those two, but I went the way of the Ploprof, and I won't say I regret it one bit.
How do you like the Seamaster? Does the helium escape valve bother you any?
Did you get the new one, with waves on the dial, or an older one?
I'm a bit on the fence between getting the blue/blue Seamaster, or the Seamaster 300, but it's definitely to be one of them.

>why do people buy val"jew" 7750s?

Most people fall for the marketing bullshit about the mountain jews and their mechanical trash. 7750's are put into entry level mechanical watches and these are very often bought by people who have no clue about mech. watches.
>see cool watch
>see that it costs more that the usual watches you know
>OH BOY, it's mechanical and swiss, must be good, the price also sure means quality
>Buy it

Rarely anybody does any research before they buy.

>grinds itself to dust
I fucking hate the swiss watch industry and all their jewish tricks or any industry in that matter.
Before i discovered /wt/ i already got an ETA 2824-2 watch for 400€.
Yes, the one that is not recommended to be hand wound or else some gear will grind away over time.

*) Historic - most complicated movement Patek has ever produced. They state it took over 100,000 man hours to develop.
*) Flex - most complicated wristwatch in the world.
*) Unique - one of a kind steel model, they only ever made 6 gold versions before this one.
*) Charity - always produces inflated prices.
*) Value - it's a Patek major complication. It'll keep and possible even increase in value after several years.

Highest the temperature testing goes is 36C, which is basically body temp.
After maybe a month of taking the watch on and off it will drift because of the balance expanding and contracting, especially with shitty 60's alloys.
COSC testing is a fucking meme.
Only very recently with exotic hairspring and balance materials can you have truly consistant timekeeping.
The only true judge of a movement is friction, tolerance, the factory's ability to properly lube it, and basic design when you take modern alloys into account.

Everything else including decoration etc is fucking worthless.
If vostok used overcoils on their hairsprings it would be the best modern movement currently in production. No one comes close jeweling and lubing the entire powertrain like the slavniggers do.

The problem for me is, to find a decent fake but with a quartz movement. Already found a nice 300$ mecha variant but i don't care at all for pateks tech, just like the design and want to have it for cheap.

I will try it on next time I see it! It has really grown on me. I think the Seamaster 300m wears perfect, no the helium escapse value never worried me, you don't feel it on wrist. I picked it up used from a jewellers for about the right money, could have got it cheaper of eBay but I've had some bad experiences on there lately.

I thought about the new wave dial, love the new movement but sometime I like the waves and sometimes I don't but in person they nice, ad lighting can be harsh, so you only really no in natural light. I'll probably even up with a new black wave dial of the grey maket.

Saw the blue dial and I was like oh wow that's really nice but was going out to Japan next week so I held off on it. I saw the black one out there and didn't bit (new wave dial was calling me) then I saw the same blue one again when I got home and it called to me so I pulled the trigger. First week I wasn't 100% I'd done the right thing, should have I got a new wave, aqua terra, planet ocean but now I know I was right to go with my heart at the time, I love the blue dial seamaster it was the right watch for me at the time, black in low light and blue in the sun. That said I would like to try a black one out but I do think the blue is more classy on the older ones. I think I'll keep the blue, I don't see myself selling it for a new wave, unless I have both in my collection and stop wearing it but I do want a new omega cal or a 36 explorer / no date sub at retail (good luck) would be nice.

Hi, I'm looking for a recommendation
Some background
I'm a poorfag
Like, paying rent and eating cereal poorfag
I've been invited to a gala of sorts by one of my former professors and I'm looking to do quite a bit of networking
I still have a rather decent suit from when I graduated that I'll be wearing, but the only watches I own are a F91-W that I wear all the time, a vostok with a siezed movement, and some sort of dive watch my dad handed down to me when I was 15 (has a brown strap and im not even sure if it still works)
I'm looking for a new watch that will have the "I put thought into this outfit" look while staying at a price where I'll be able to continue eating for the week
Is there a watch out there under $30 that would work for me?
Shitty leather strap?
Don't care, just needs to match my black shoes and belt
Bad build quality?
Doesn't need to become a family heirloom. Just needs to show time and not make me look 12 when I look at it or if it shows from under my shirt
Any recommendations?

It was probably previously wound and all you did was start the balance wheel so it could function.

Sometimes the stem can get stuck and not return to the winding position. You can push down the recessed button directly to the left of the red arrow in this picture >>14775362 and pull out the stem. Hold down the button while reinserting stem and twisting until you can screw down the crown all the way. Then release the button. Use a screwdriver or something to push on the exposed portion of the stem toward the movement, while also pushing on the movement from the side opposite of the stem. Maybe insert some paper or something next to the spacer there to help hold it tight. You should hear the stem click and engage back into the winding position. If that doesn't solve it for a while the keyless works are probably fucked.

Need a watch that wouldn't be afraid of sand and salty sea water (so I don't need to clean it after swimming) and would look acceptable to wear with swimming shorts at the beach or wearing my everyday singlet, shorts and flip flops.

I already have a classic F-91W that I use for my work everyday and it is all covered in dust and sweat so I don't want to wear it after work.
Thinking to buy a silver F-91W for my everyday needs but it just looks too retro and is probably not salt-water proof.
Maybe just all black would be better so it wouldn't attract so much attention.
Want it to be as slim as possible, so probably digital preferred.

It will take one helluva beating, can go 200 meters underwater, never loses time, is black, might be a bit bulky compared to the f91w but nothing too bad, and because you're going to be in the sun, that bad boy is going to have a full charge every day you use it. When you finally put up the surfboard, it will happily wait another 10 months for you to return to it before the battery dies. And that's in the complete dark. Put it in a window and it probably won't die for 30 years.

Have been looking for a unique watch and stumbled upon pic related, a Casio A168 in the same color scheme, since I haven't seen anyone ever wear this before. I heard this watch is very prominent among women though. Will wearing this make me a look like a silly, jewish incel sissy? If so, are there are any better alternatives? Doesn't neccesarily have to be a digital watch.

This is part of their vintage collection, and it's not advertised as a woman's watch although I've seen it listed as unisex. I think it's a fine watch to own although you're paying a lot more for the electroluminescence. The A158WEA-9 is a very similar watch and half the price, but if you can't live without this color scheme, then go for it.

Decided to look it up for you. It's almost 1/3 the price.

If it's the black band and inverted display you like you could take a look at B640WB-1BVT:

Why does that anger you so much, frien?
I would tell everybody that asks that it's fake and i'm too poor to save up and too lazy to earn more money to save up for it.

Being a mind slave of these brands won't benefit you at all, you might as well stop defending these shitters.

Nope, it's the real thing, local stores just overcharge like retarded and then wonder why people stop buying from them.
Saw something similar here in germany, a local shop had a basic bitch seiko 5, the older model, for about 120€ when amazon had the same model for around 75€.

I understand that stores have to pay rent and sales personells wages and much more but in some cases they clearly overdo it with the prices.

Do it. Simple watches are a pleasure to look at and this has nice proportions.
Don't fall for the nato meme. The shitty nylon could irritate your skin and annoy you, mine did.
Leather fells better but is less durable.

The golden one. It's small tho. But it fits me perfectly
>great lug design
>gold plating did not flake, despite over a year of almost daily wear
>leather still in great condition, no rubbing off no cracking
>wore it on my vacation, sweating and the head did nothing to the band

It has great lug design and the numerals, their font and proportions, well i really like them.

I took this watch band apart to re size it and it wont go back together. The watch link doesn't fit onto the trap - it's slightly too big and can't even be forced in. I haven't lost any pieces - it just doesn't fit. It's driving me crazy, watch repairmen must be some of the most patient people in the world - this whole experience was stressful.
