I want to replicate the fall 2013 women's wear style (simple, grungy top with shorts/miniskirt) showing the whole footwear and legs. The closest thing on market right now is the Celine ranger. Profile is definitely not going to be bulky. The only bulk I observe is the ankle region and maybe the shaft...but I feel like you can use the laces to tighter the shaft so that the ankle and shaft becomes tighter and really approximate the fw13 rangers.

That said, I would double-check again to see if you can't really find these strapped rangers on the secondhand market first. Nothing will be able to look 100% similar to those fw13 rangers. The facing and diameter of the laces are different between fw13 and fw13 which gives a slightly different vibe. Another difference that is present, but may or may not be a big deal is that the sole is thinner on the fw13s compared to the fw19s because the fw19s have the rubber pieces glued on top of the leather sole.

Trickers guy here with the Grassmere today. Very similar to Burford but with a Commando sole, zug grain and stitched toe cap. It's also a 6 fitting, instead of the narrower 5 which is standard for most Trickers lasts. Leather very supple from first wear, no break in at all. Sole however is quite stiff. One minor gripe is I wish Trickers QC was a bit tighter. Minor quibbles like one boot being slightly taller than the other, and the like. My C&Js are definitely better finished. Thinking about getting a MTO from C&J next. Their service is second to none compared to the somewhat snippy service I've received from Trickers.

This doesn't even mean anything. How long are your feet anon? A true UK 12 is exactly 12" long. Because King Edward II's feet were exactly 12" long, or as they measured it in barleycorns.

Each successive size down is .33", thus a true size 9 UK would have 11" long feet.

But that doesn't even matter. Because your foot size is not just based on the overall LENGTH of your foot.... It's based on your H2T length in combination with your B2T lenght. That is what a Brannock device will measure for you. It will show you both your H2T and H2B, so you can then use both of those measurenemtns to approximate your foot size. Euro sizing is not useful, use UK (or US which is just UK minus a whole/half size).

This all might be too complex for you but anyway.

Otherwise I’ll just buy some common projects chelseas, which are a little more normal looking.

i'd also like to add that this was a common trick employed by troops in the black boot era of the US military (1957-2004, navy doesn't count) which of course encompasses bickle's time in the marines. it was a time saving measure to make sure your boots were "shined enough" for the day-to-day in garrison. a good babykiller always has a second pair of boots he keeps inspection ready, this is the pair he'd shine properly, the way they're taught in boot camp to get the best shine. taxi driver has a lot of little things like that that a viewer with a military lens can pick up on. in another scene he's doing pullups in a yellow shirt with a red marine corps emblem, which is the way the 2nd recruit training battalion's t-shirts have looked since the 60s, so we can assume, based off of how worn the shirt is and the colors, that's his boot camp shirt. it's kind of cute because he's putting himself through his own little demented boot camp around that part of the film. the mohawk is another touch, historically people that were about to go to war, or go on a suicide mission shaved their head like this, either completely bald or into a mohawk. the mohawk was popularized by i believe the airborne units on D-Day doing that. LRRPs, green berets, recon etc would do the same thing in vietnam when going on crazy missions into the jungle (mohawks were out of hair regulations for regular line units by this point, specialized units have a lot more freedom in that regard) and since bickle has those gold marine corps jump wings, he was probably some kind of ricky recon and was a part of that ritual. still annoys me his jump wings were on the wrong side of his field jacket and he also wears an anachronistic WW2 tanker jacket, although im not sure if there was an optional wear tanker jacket at that time like there is today in the marine corps.

I can see the contrast leather looking cool after wearing them in, but the heel and toe box are too big for my taste. There's a few pics of them on Dayton's instagram. If I was getting these I would ask for a different last with a rounder toe. Dayton will do this no problem, but it will be extra money for a MTO boot.

Female friend of mine is always wearing a black pair of lace-up Vagabonds. They're good enough for a beater pair or baby's first boots. And the style is clean unlike so many Eurotrash boots in this price range that have laces
+ zippers + elastics and stupid random stitching or leather patches. The leather is pretty cheap but they will stay looking OK if you just clean them and use a tiny bit of grease/oil.

For the price I would just get them as a basic everyday thing.
