Good heavens, look at the time.

Almost a year old now. Dropped it twice, once from five feet and still never misses a beat. Moved from +1 to +2spd on the wrist. It gets xrayed a lot though and has a generallyy tough life as a daily watch.

No one here ever posts a g10, Hamiltons ofcourse but I think all field watches are over rated, they are meant to be a tough watch, 0 water resistance but g shocked are the new field watch. If you are really going to uses the watch just get a g shock square.

I'm not in the services, I just do a lot of palaeo volunteering as a part hobby part professional development. Pretty happy to take my g10 out to do field work. Not going to wear it wet sieving but I'd not wear any watch doing that. Explorer might be more for show but it should stand up to most things I do out in the field, wouldn't be game to take it caving though.

Hamilton's I've looked at, beautiful, really classic field watch lines; the hideous outdated typeface used for the logo and next to no water resistance are big turn offs though. Too much of a "field" watch.

The square G shock I've considered. Probably the least LARPy option, and is a respectable classic design in its own right.

Im in a bit of a dilemma.

I just tried on the new Seiko 5 Sports (new skx) in this gunmetal color and it looked fantastic. Bracelet didnt feel cheap like the old skx's either.

On the otherhand Ive been thinking of getting something a bit better such as a used seamaster for quite some time now. I just havent come across a good deal.

Im really torn. I currently have a sarb thats seen better days as a daily so either watch would be the new daily.

One major gripe I have with the design of this otherwise decent diver is the placement of the lume pip on the seconds hand. I don't understand why you'd want it on the end opposite the one pointing at what second it is. It must be so annoying and counterintuitive to read. Not op but i don't get this mentality.

A beater is just cucking yourself out of enjoying a watch you love every day. What's the point, in a few years when you sell it your get a couple 100 more? Get a g shock or something especially if your day to day kife is that brutal. Spending a couple of hundred on a beater is just eating into what you save keeping it bnib.

Spend money on something you can afford to enjoy every day, rather than moneybon something you've gotnto keep hidden in a box. Its a steel sports watch uts made to be worn every day

The Seiko is obviously in an entirely different price class, and if he's to get a nasty scratch on the case in a meat saw accident, then I figure it's better he do it to the Seiko than an Omega.
At the same time, he's obviously interested in the Seiko, and there's definitely some joy to be found in owning one - In my opinion, much more so than with a G-Shock, so it's not such a "drag" to wear it at work, if you will.
That said, I do see your point about saving your money and getting the watch you want at once, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't envy the people who can wear their fancy watches to work without a care in the world.

Have fun servicing your fucking dinner plate at a decent price.
in-house movements are a shitty meme, even worse when they're chronos.
You're an idiot if you buy a mechanical chronograph in an age where watch"makers" can barely service a 3-hander without fucking it up.
