Didn’t want to confine this to the prep thread but what shoes would you get to show you’re a patrician?

I posted these in the other thread, but basically anything as a wholecut, cap toe or wingtip in black. Patent leather is out these days.

Burgundy Shell, Cigar Shell both in Plain Toe Blucher, and a basic oxford are the go to shoes.

Loafers are for wealthy people who don't work. It's more of a casual shoe.

I like these Brioni captoe bluchers because they are basic, classic and not too dressy.

I'm a huge fan of this brand but can't afford them. I did have a pair of Bontoni wholecuts (a gift), sold them for $400 after wearing them for a year because they slipped around, and got a bunch of vintage shoes.

I don't know that much about trad but I get the impression that gucci bit loafers are probably more of a new money flex than anything, and that old money would prefer something more understated where the construction quality and materials alone are what speaks.

>> No.14710233

>>14710199
Gucci typically has one thing going for it--leather quality. Many of the top designer brands, the historic ones like Gucci, Salvatore Fer., Dior, Louis V. etc, have good tanners that sell exclusively to them. So the quality of craftsmanship counts for little when you get the best hides and use only 1 hide for 2 shoes or less.

Flexing. I'm hearing this more from the younger generation. It doesn't make much sense to me.

In short, it is a new money thing to wear gucci now. Gone are the days of patricia highsmith's ripley.

>Flexing
Boastfulness. In many instances an ostentatious display of wealth for its own sake, but it can be a display of skill or unsporting behaviour.

Gucci bit loafers are pretty much the only thing by them that doesn't look like a new money flex since they have history on wall street and there are many more expensive and tacky shoes people can get

I agree, but a rounded toe box is incredibly versatile and makes standing for 6 hours, two times a week, delivering lectures, a bit less of a hassle. I've got lots of pointy toed shoes, and like to mix it up a bit with the traditional round toe.

Some of those models are, it depends on the year, season, and last of the shoe. There are definitely some C&J handgrades that equal or surpass G&G and some complaints this has happened. Alfred Sargent and C&J also cooperate.
