European guide to trousers with a good rise.

0-100 euros
Yoox - Zanella, Iconotex, pt01. Look carefully at the pictures to get an idea of the rise. It's really hit and miss but thankfully Yoox handles returns free of charge.
Uniqlo - the vintage fit is the only acceptable chino from Uniqlo. Great casual option.
Levis - 501. Get a dark indigo.
John Simons chino

100-200 euros
Cordings Fits vary so you really must try them on first. Cords are fairly essential.
Natalino: a proper rise. My favourite option though the range is limited as its a new company.
Scavini: A french tailor. You can specify the hem length online. Four fits available. go for the s3 (single pleat).
New and Lingwood: Nice British brand. Their cords are my favourite. Wide range of bright colours.
Oliver Brown: Extensive collection of nice trousers.
Drop93 - The Armoury discount store. Nice selection of brands that are normally way too expensive.
Spencers trousers - British mtm trousers.
SimonJamesCathCart: very retro stylings, some trousers might be too wide for most. Reasonable prices (closer to 100) and sales. Pic related is on sale for 49 pounds.
Scott Fraser collection: See above.

300+
Drakes: High quality. Can be had for much less (around 100) at their factory shop in shoreditch or during the sales.
Berg and Berg: good quality, free returns. Trousers are quite slimfit despite having a good rise. I'm normally a 44/46 but even their 48 didn't fit me.
Cavour: Nice quality. Similar to Drakes.
Chester Barrie: Great quality but a limited selection.

Luxire is a mtm option with prices ranging to under 100 to 400.

None of the Ivys are very preppy anymore. I went to Yale and I dropped out of a PhD program at Columbia. Neither were very preppy. I've been on campus at Brown and Cornell and those weren't either. Dartmouth, from my brief time visiting a friend, had some people dressed in prep - but it was more of the frat douche sort. Because early experiments in sizing lead to poorly fitted garments, meaning many people just bought a "size x" because the sales clerk told them it was "their size" and wore it. They would then get photographed in some context, and however many decades later some Redditor who has a fedora collection argues that you simply CANNOT be TIP if you aren't effectively engaging in historical reenactment. After all, they didn't know shit about sizing then just as most people don't now, so you're not "authentic" (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean) if you aren't flapping like a poorly hoisted sail.

actual WASP from an ivy league family here.

don't bother trying to dress this way if you're
>not white
>live in an urban setting, or uber-suburb setting like long island
you will just look ridiculous. if you go to the mall dressed like this people will laugh at you

this style looks best if you're in the countryside, because those are its british roots. if you want to see how the country gentry dressed that inspired this, watch some episodes of Poirot. it was taken up by educated middle class families in new england who lived in upscale rural enclaves. this should be obvious that most of the ivy league universities are in rural settings, though after they've become so commercial in the past few decades that's changing, as is the fact that white males don't go to them anymore.

i live in the french countryside, and have lived in the english, and this style is still very common among older people who are unabashedly bourgeois

The contrast in formality between top and bottom wouldn't be quite so bad if your jacket was less structured and you weren't wearing a waistcoat. Right now I can't figure out if you're supposed to be at a wedding or at the ranch. Jeans and blazer+tie IS possible but you've got to really tone down the blazer wearing top-half.

I have the grey cords from Natalino and they are great. To my eye it looks like a twill weave but I can't be certain. The cut is excellent - high-rise, nice amount of room in the thighs and a good taper. They fit really well. Sturdy midwale cord lined to the knees.
The only problem could be the lack of belt loops. Side adjusters mean you can change the waistband quite a bit. If you want to wear them with braces you'll need to add buttons yourself because they have a fishtail back but nowhere to attach the braces.
Fit is true to your actual waist size not vanity sizings.

Maybe get some Cordings cords and have a tailor taper them to your own specs? Very hard to find decent trousers these days.
