I’m (American) Japanese so I’m not really a part of the culture, but I do a lot of shopping around where tourists from Japan shop and a lot of my friends are from Japan or have family there
It seems in Japanese culture sticking out and being offensive are considered to be very bad thus most don’t consider wearing fragrance at all. The ones that do prefer something like Jo Malone that is very subtle. The SA at Nordstrom she told me specifically which one (I think pear?) that Japanese people like but I can’t remember

Asian American but super traditional parents. As in more traditional than many of their contemporary counterparts in Korea. My mom has fragrances from when she was younger but hardly uses them, stuff like Chanel 5, even when going out. My dad throws on aftershave sometimes. But I’d wager 99.9% time they don’t believe in fragrance, often saying it’s too loud and offensive and headache inducing when smelling others in public. I go for high end niche fragrances with lots of sillage and projection and just tone it the fuck down when applying. Gives me just a touch of smells, without the offensive nose. They haven’t complained once so it seems to work well with their bloodhound noses.

She said she used to see them, but they’d always stink, and they’d never shave their pubes so they’d have giant, disgusting bushes and it would make her gag. She also told me most of had such small dicks that she couldn’t even see them amidst their pube jungles. She said she felt like she needed a guide and a machete to find their cocks. Also tried hacivat from nishane. Both houses are killing it and super beastly. Sillage , projection , blend, longevity. i didn’t really like arso on my skin however. I have sampled a few Nishane frags. It was a while back when the brand first launched on Luckyscent, but I recall liking Hacivat and Fan Your Flames. Hacivat obviously has that Aventus vibe, not super original, but does the formula well. Fan Your Flames is interesting, sort of a standard boozy-tobacco scent, but with the addition of coconut. Definitely a house I need to revisit at some point.

I really do need to check out Profumum Roma. I keep hearing great things. I was hoping to try a few this trip, I thought Skins carried their stuff, but I checked their site and it seems like they don’t. Bijenkorf might, they seem to have a lot of stuff in-store that’s not listed on their site. I have an escort coming tomorrow evening and I don’t fuck during the day when I have an escort booking, so tomorrow’s probably going to be a Bijenkorf/Skins day.

I honestly think you’ll enjoy profumum a offerings. They make great product. A bit linear in a lot of them however. Give them a try and let us know how you like it please.

Yeah the peppery pine powder I got on my sample did not jive with me at all. I could it seeit layering well with something from their house that’d “brighten” the profile but it’s definitely not as cozy as the description would lead you to believe

Today’s Bijenkorf haul. Very snice stuff. It’s a bit soapy, but in a very snice way, a little spicy, a little woody, there’s citrus, but it’s not too overpowering. This one’s going to be quite versatile, I think. Light enough for summer, but spicy enough for winter. Very happy with it. Gave me a bunch of random samples, too.

Also tried Amouage Portrayal, which I liked and may cop later, as well as the new Feve Delicieuse, which I didn’t like as much as the old version. Smelled like those cherry Vick’s cough drops to me.

I take a similar issue really, I like quite a few Roja frags but you just can't justify the pricetag buying any of them when it feels like half of it's just for the needlessly decadent bottles with Swarovski crystals and 24ct gold caps. Just have a more normal bottle and price them around what they should be in the £200-300 upper end niche range. I have no problem paying that amount for a top quality niche frag but only when it feels like it's justified for the quality of the fragrance itself rather than a flashy bottle.

Roja Parfums would have a much bigger audience and better sales among serious collectors and nichefags if they stopped being a toy for people with money than sense and retards that just want something flashy. It's irritating they do it when they actually have some decent frags as opposed to the Clive Christian method of getting some expensive ingredients at a high concentration and chucking them in a flashy bottle with any consideration if actually smells good an afterthought.

DH yes, DHI no. The later is just enough over the line not to be. I asked a few people from family, friends and people at work what they thought of DH compared to DHI with one on teach wrist. DH I got similar comments along the lines of 'it smells like you just rubbed eyeshadow on there' or 'it smells like foundation'. DHI stood out enough to not be the same and got two comments about it having a bit of a hot chocolate or just general chocolatey smell in the first hour or so, rest was just 'smells like a perfume'. DHP on the other hand I still don't get the hype for, I've worn it quite a few times and still don't 'get' why it's so hyped, it's better than DH but harsher, more offensive and generally inferior to DHI. Reminds me a bit of AdP Colonia Concentree Ambra in the later dry down only nowhere near as smooth.

That being said, sometimes when I got to Harrods/Selfridges I have a chat with SA's and I the target for Roja are rich Arabs (and now apparently new money from Asia). For them the Swarowskis diamonds make the difference.

I just got my samples from notino:
>Amouage Opus VI
10/10 probably one of the smoothest and snicest amber scents I've tried. Gonna give it a couple of wears and might buy a decant.
>Amouage Gold (I reckon it's a new formulation)
I don't get the Wafts' and other nichefags hype about it. It's mostly rose some animalic notes that make it very powdery and feminine. Doesn't smell particularly complex on paper blotter desu. It has some cheap deodorant quality to it. 3/10
>Atkinson's Odd Fellow's Bouquet
Interesting tobacco with floral notes. Sadly sweet resins (fragrantica says it's Benzoin) make it a bit cloying. 6/10
>ELDO Rien Intense Incense
If Kouros had a child with CdG 2 it would be Rien Intense Incense. It has the same alien vibe as CdG 2 due to Aldehydes but is more masculine and dark (leather, incense). Really confusing fragrance but I like it. I can imagine this being someone's signature.

Well, in Europe I’m not sure, but fragrancebuy.ca gets Roja frags in from time to time. They actually had a single bottle of Haute Luxe at about 1000.00 below retail at one point. Sold in about 2 hours.

With Enigma, at least, you really don’t need the extrait. The EDP is almost exactly the same scent, and I get 10-12 hours at least out of it, so the extrait is completely unnecessary to me.

Honestly, though, if someone were looking to get just one Roja frag for their collection, Enigma would be my pick. I do believe it’s a modern classic and there just isn’t anything else out there like it, so really, you can just ignore the crazy expensive ones.

I see where you're coming from but I find Profumum Roma a strange one. I went through the entire current PR range spayed on cards in the Jovoy store in London earlier this year and found while most of it is consistently good it largely isn't good enough to buy full bottle. I liked and sampled quite a few but just didn't find them right for me or good enough to buy. The closest I really came to getting any was Ambra Aurea, but I just wasn't won over enough. Antico Caruso was good, but there's too many similar almond ones out there for it to stand out enough and although I liked Tagete it'd be too feminine to wear on myself.

I’d say yes. It’s a bit of a departure from the typical vanilla frag, adding plum, leather, smoke, and frangipani. It sort of smells a bit like smooth, smoky banana. It’s not going to be for everyone, but it’s quite snice and pretty unique.

Sampled it at the airport last time I was here in Amsterdam, liked it a lot, but I ultimately settled on Fucking Fabulous at that time. Copped VF a while later. Definitely one to sample first, though, again, not everyone will love it.

Spare me that please. You probably weren't being overly defensive but yoomerisms like that make it look that way. I was more interested prompting discussion by sharing my opinion on him. I think he's a bit of a spiv, and that his sales and marketing background really shows through. Something not quite right about the story he tells. I feel the same way regarding Creed's manufactured history, tarnishes the brand IMO even though the product still speaks for itself for the most part. Or bands, turns me off the music if somebody's really full of themselves and behaves objectionably.

Not that I've yet bought anything at that price point.

I realised now that we are well into Spring that I bought my first frags at some point after Christmas, Terre d' Hermes EDT, Guerlain Vetiver and blind bought Encre Noire Sport (not bad, pretty artificial though, I regret not getting the ordinary one to which the same criticism applies to but is perhaps more interesting for being so bold) fairly safe, entry level Summer/ Autumn frags, fully intending to buy up before winter. However I was too panic buying tobacco to hoard before a change in Australian import laws and then paying for a remote area field excursion I heard about about the last minute. I never got to really stretch my legs. It's a shame.

As a consolation I might buy Tam Dao EDT or Hinoki which I think are bone dry on me at least and might do alright in warmer weather. I'm looking at Mugler Cologne and maybe Caron Yuzu for summer.

Yeah, it takes the honeyed tobacco accord from the first two hours of Pure Havane but keeps them that way for the whole duration rather than drying down into A* Men. It's a lot smoother and slightly less sweet though and has ridiculous longevity (easily 12-16hrs) while gently projecting throughout. I had PH before and liked it but just didn't feel like it lasted long enough and was let down by drying down into A* Men, Naxos is everything I didn't like about it but fixed. I'd say Naxos is to autumn what GIT is to spring, a top drawer seasonal frag.

There's always PdM Percival if you want to excite normies only to make them sad when they look it up then realise they can't afford it. But it's more like a niche pricetag than a niche scent. There's absolutely nothing new or original about it but it's just almost every designer 'blue' fresh scent rolled into one bottle with the performance turned up to 11. It's probably my most complimented non-designer frag and also probably my most worn one of 2019, got a 125ml bottle in February and feels like there's at least a third of the bottle gone already.

It's pretty solid , about 8-10 hours and projection is strong for the first two hours but not offensively strong like 1 Million or Sauvage. I'd sample it first and see what mileage you get out of it. It's one that surprised me though in that it flies in the face of everything niche frags are meant to be yet it's so likeable and wearable.

It's kinda similar in concept to Office for Men; in that it's a whole genre and list of designer frags rolled into one long-lasting aromachemical bomb, but one that's done right.

A note about the EdP and the EdT: freshly opened bottles don't reach their performance potential until they've been sprayed a bit and aged for at least a few months. Don't be deterred if you cop and only get four or five hours out of an application. Also recommended four sprays or more.
