was having lunch with my gf the other week near a trendy hotel that is very popular among black/brown peeps.
holy shit do black dudes wear some garish shit.
in a 1 hour time frame i saw:
> bright green velvet dinner jacket at lunch time on a saturday.
>pink suit shorts, pink blazer
> so many bright colored loafers in extremely pointy/italian shapes
the women they were with if they weren't gay, all were well dressed. it was just every black dude in absolute peacock skinny fit menswear.

yeah they'll be fine entry level loafers. you may want to size down for loafers, because the fit is really important. so be sure to measure your foot and go off their size guide.
if you can go try them on in a store, definitely do it.

It's a punt, not a 'boat', you're not going to get wet/do any work as long as you're not doing the punting yourself. White trousers/chinos are perfectly acceptable

The weird thing is this photo is punting in Oxford in the summer in 'shirt/tie/wool jumper/wool jacket' or 'shirt/turtleneck/duffle coat'. I get they're trying to model A/W in June, but those models must be absolutely sweltering

For the guernsey list, 'The Sweater Company' do guernseys and other similar designs, Made in England for really quite cheap: https://www.notonthehighstreet.com/thesweatercompany

The maker's tag is 'Telford Tradition'. They seem to use a more ordinary and softer kind of wool than the heavyweight kind used by the traditional guernsey makers and in a slightly more wearable cut (at least I find), so I think if one wanted a guernsey design but are put off by some of the 'traditional' features of the older makers this might be a good alternative

Ivy essentials will not change. Blazer, ocbd, penny loafers, flannels. High waist, soft shoulder and generous fit that allows movement. No logos.

Add whatever you like to that as long as it fits the college theme. I personally think that a university hoodie looks good on top of chinos and ocbd. Sneakers work as long as they're not too flashy. A cap is a great addition as are various long coats. Even a parka can work as long as its over a blazer or something suitably formal. What's essential IMO with any of these styles is to nail the basics first and then you can build upon that foundations.

I specifically lengthened the pants by 1cm because previously I feel they were too short. I do not really like the modern way pants are supposed to be so short - I like just a touch of break. I think the bagginess comes from corduroy being corduroy and my liking of having quite full leg / knee width in trousers. I feel that when the top is quite full with the pleats and all, one can have quite a roomy thigh and knee with it still looking proportioned. Of course, it works better with wool trousers than corduroy - cords just don't drape that well.

are the new j.crew oxford shirts passable? -from their site:
>The Oxford cloth button-down shirt is a quintessential wardrobe staple and a hallmark of old-school collegiate style. It's beloved for its easy versatility: it can dress up chinos or make a suit feel more relaxed. Our oxford is made from American Pima cotton, a species that has longer fibers than other varieties of cotton which makes it stronger, softer and less likely to pill. As an added bonus, it's engineered with mechanical stretch: the 100% cotton fabric is woven loosely, then washed, giving it natural elasticity without having any stretch fibers.
>We kept the collar unlined and a little on the long side, a nod to its Ivy League heritage.

Yeah, but he has a point, doesn't he? I literally cringe every time I see their made up crests and coats of arms of clubs, sports associations etc. I remember when I asked a guy at my uni what rowing club his 'Polo Ralph Lauren Boat Club' rugby shirt is from and played stupid at his embarrassed mumbling responses. If you want to wear rowing stash then start rowing, it's not that hard idiots. The other day I was trying these lovely critter pants from PRL, but unfortunately one of the patters was Skull&Bones on the 'Y' coat of arms. I had to drop them. Maybe that's me living for too long in Britain but I believe that it really matters what you wear and what it can mean. Let it be stripped ties, club stash or athletic clothing. That being said I think they make good basic stuff for the prices offered at TK/JMaxxes, but definitely not worth it at retail prices.

Two missed shots. Aran sweaters are not Irish piece of clothing. They just originate from there. I will help you to make a case though as you're likely just an uneducated American - you can't wear clan tartans or kilts if you're not Scottish. And that's true. Even if you have a boat, wearing boat shoes in the city is ridiculous. Anyone can wear them in marine setting though. If you were a bit more cultured, you'd know that it's the type of shoes that for example punters wear and I sincerely doubt that any of them owns a boat. That's just a common sense but I guess you can't learn it over internet.
