Sounds like you should get the EDT. Honestly don't listen to reviewers on this, it seems like the EDT isn't most people's preference but its mine and I think the citrus opening is brighter and projects better. The EDP and Parfum version are much more on the incense. But then again I prefer citrus fresh fragrances.

Rich and satisfying, despite being a relatively cheap designer it's one I seem to keep buying and wearing every autumn/winter. I think it holds up surprisingly well against most of its designer rivals. It's in the same genre but not as good Spicebomb Extreme and could do with better longevity but it's still a solid frag that seems to hold up over time and is surprisingly underrated.

>> No.14629681

>>14629611

In your position I'd just buy Spicebomb Extreme before you start uni then disregard anything else in that genre until you've got a budget to build up a rotation with some depth. Unless you've got rich parents, good savings or a decent side job it's better to have one or two solid upper-tier designer frags that covers autumn/winter/nights out than eat into a student budget. The only thing MIB has on it is the pricetag and even in a collection of 50+ mixed designer/niche/luxury frags I still find SbE gets more compliments than anything else I wear by far.

But then I like to do stupid shit that I don't recommend like buying 4-6 similar but still distinctive frags at different market levels (i.e. MIB/SbE/PdM Herod/The One EDT/Evody Noir d'Orient/TF Noir EDP) then just go with whatever I feel like on the day.

It's a good light and airy East Asian style woody incense. Doesn't have great longevity but projects surprisingly well. CdG Hinoki is a more authentic wood scent from that region although Kyoto lasts and projects better while being more wearable so in a way they cancel each other out.

A more surprising discovery though is Zagorsk from the same series. While the spray is still fairly unique and interesting the incense stick version is an amazing winter and especially Christmas room scent, used the whole pack up last Christmas and will probs buy another and do it again this year.

i've tried camel, chameleon, civet, dodo, squid, elephant, and panda.

civet is great, a nice 'entry' animalic as it really doesn't have a whole lot of beast to it. feels really warm, got strong rum on the opening but it faded, lasts quite a while.

squid was good, the ink accord was really interesting and pretty well done, not a whole lot else to say about it, very strong ambergris at the end.

elephant is very interesting in a good way. it opens with an absurdly strong green. not sweet green, but bitter green, like you pick up a handful of wet grass and crunched it up. it's not unpleasant. in the drydown i mostly got faint green, coconut/tonka and heavy vanilla. didn't get the cocoa i was hoping for but still thought it was pretty pleasant.

camel is ok, smells oriental, pretty inoffensive but nothing remarkable. chameleon has a pretty messy opening and dries down to basically smelly like a guy wearing a coconut-ish sunscreen. dodo also had a messy opening and drydown, didn't think it blended too well. almost smelled powdery at the end. meh.

Let's say you're willing to invest $100 (or euros for you eurobros) a month on frags, that's $1200 a year, and you would do this only once. Can you get a well-rounded collection for that amount of money? What would you include in there? It has to cover all your needs year-round. Some Hermes Jardins and Acqua di Parma for daily wear in summertime.
Hermes Equipage for daily wear in colder weather.
Some weird vintage stuff that I personally like, but can't really wear at work, like Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme, or Guerlain Habit Rouge or Vetiver.
Some really great niche stuff that is extra smoky and rich. An oriental oud or Musc Ravageur or something. For sex larping purposes.

plenty of clones, none of them are good.

Really, though, Creed is not that expensive.
How long would a bottle last? Say, three years if you wear it a LOT (and you would not, since it's not an everyday fragrance).
Say you pay 300 bucks for 120mL (you can get it cheaper).
That's a hundred bucks per year or $8.33 per month. That's pretty reasonable.

Realistically, that 120mL will last you closer to 10 years, which gets you down to $2.50 per month.

Depends on the frag though, if it's something you (or think you'll) use as a staple it's always worth getting larger bottles but leaving the rest, especially more seasonal frags to small sizes. Even with a fairly large collection/seasonal rotations there's still a few full-size bottles I've used up completely and moved onto my second second bottle like AdP Colonia Essenza and GIT. Quite low on PdM Percival too now and that's a 125ml, would have wasted a lot buying a 75ml. This one is pretty solid and not so boring or straightforward as Blue de Channel, which is good but too linear and predictable.

If you're just starting out, and you actually intend on spending some time and money on frags instead of just finding something that suits you and moving on, I suggest you spend some time trying stuff out before buying anything.

Once a week or however often you can, go to Sephora or Macy's or whatever and try out different stuff. Whenever you're at an airport, try out all kinds of stuff, specially the more expensive stuff. And when you do start buying, I would say never get a 100ml bottle, go with 50ml or less, because right at the beginning you might make purchases that you'll end up regretting later on.

And as always, ignore the trolls.

Agreed with this, but la nuit the l'homme smelled awful on me so yeah sample first. I got tonnes of samples by just asking just tell them you want to know how it smells after a couple of hours since you can only really smell the opening in the store. Also really really take that don't buy 100 ml bottles thing to heart at the start, when I started out I bought 100 ml of Eros and have not even used 20 ml by now and start to dislike it. I also bought 100ml of sauvage which I find really boring right now. Got memed into getting them without getting samples and now I regret it immensely

They have little plastic vials with a sprayer which they can give away. Most of the time these are blank and you het a card that says which fragrance it is. Sometimes they give you one of these plastic sprayers that they got from the company eg. Dior. If you ask for sauvage parfum in sephora right now chances are you get one of these smal plastic sprayers from Dior instead of a blank one. The ones from the brands sometimes have more in them than the blank ones. Also sometimes you are lucky and can buy a tester bottle, which is a bottle people in store could use to try the frag. These aren't comepletely full bit are often great deals. More niche or expensive frags aren't always given away for free, but you can buy them on the internet really easily. If you found a frag you like check fragantica for the notes then you can find search for frags with those notes, often you will enjoy those frags as well. Step 1. buy from a mall-tier store (online)
Step 2. order online with a credit card
Step 3. wait for the package to come in
Step 4. call up support and tell them you never got the package
Step 5. Ask for a refund, 9 times out of 10 they will give you a refund if its under $500 worth of merch,

I’ve only tried Taylor of Old Bond Street and Milton Brown and although they make nice scents, they don’t suit fragrances, they should stick to soaps and other toiletries. Performance is piss-poor on them.

I recently got into Fragrances, and I have been testing out different types. My results are based on sortof sociological experiments, where I first spray into the air in my office, and then I spray in various areas such as the breakroom, and the photocopier room. I do this without people noticing. And wait. Eros by Versace seems to be the most successfuol. I sit very close to the photocopier room and I overhear multiple women telling other coworkers how it smells so good, and one woman even undid her blouse slightly. I think this maybe is good evidence in support of Eros as the best fragrance for getting sex.

Will be at Manchester duty free this Wednesday and want to pick up two fragrancea for a two week trip. I'd prefer for this to be suitable for wear on my return for office and casual.

I'm thinking BDC (unsure of varient) for casual, dates, and some office occasions. The second bottle would perhaps be Prada L'homme as I understand it is quite versatile and not obnoxious. Yes, I own full bottles of both. Arguably this is pointless, but I don’t mind.

L’Homme is very linear. What you get in the opening is what you get throughout. If you like the scent that’s no bad thing, but I understand why some get bored with it. Projection is reasonable and longevity is inexplicably good for me considering how light it is.

Eau for Men is much more interesting. It has more depth, but it lacks the freshness of L’Homme. Both are inoffensive, both project and last similarly. I’d say Eau leans more masculine whereas L’Homme could be unisex.

I see, thanks for the explanation. Do you think it makes sense to get the two fragrances at the same time? (BDC and L'homme) I haven't had the opportunity to test any in person but going by the listed notes, BDC sounds like something which I'd like. I won't necessarily use them for winter as I will probably get something else for colder months. These to me seem like good choices for Autumn and perhaps spring/summer.

BDC is a great all-rounder. You can wear it whenever you want and it’s very safe. If you just want to smell “nice” you could just buy a big bottle of that and never buy anything else. It’s a jack of all trades, master of none. It’s not the most unique, it’s not the best performing, it’s certainly not the cheapest, but it does exactly what it sets out to do.

That said, L’Homme is cleaner and fresher. It’s more like smelling like expensive soap. They’re both different enough that you could justify buying both, there’s no issue there, but if your budget is limited just buy BDC and start sampling at a later date.

When trying BDC, just try the EdT or EdP. The Parfum is too expensive.

>> No.14636636

EDP sounds like the one for me out of the trio so I will most likely go to test that one first. On the possibility that I find L'homme a bit too safe... is there anything else which you would suggest looking at that is again a fairly complementary purchase alongside BDC? I think anything like Eros would be too obnoxious for general fragrance.

For example my current shaving scents are DR Harris Windsor and Lavender so something that doesn't class would be ideal

Armani’s Acqua Di Gio Profumo is great. Decent performance, not too expensive, similarly “classy” to L’Homme, but in a different way.
